From sac to success: balloon remodeling in delayed proximally migrated flow diverter stent.

Flow diverters have been in current practice for almost 2 decades, and since then, endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms has evolved considerably. Among relatively common complications, stent migration remains an infrequent but clinically significant event. This single patient observational technical note presents a successful endovascular rescue treatment of a proximally migrated flow diverter stent using balloon-assisted remodeling, detected at the eight month follow-up angiography. This strategy allowed the migrated stent to be recatheterized and the treatment to be completed wit

Migration of radioactive seeds to the paravertebral venous system after prostate cancer brachytherapy: a case series and literature review.

BACKGROUND: At our institution, we began using I-125 prostate brachytherapy in 2009. To date, approximately 510 patients have been treated, and we have observed only 14 cases of seed migration. We present three cases of prostate brachytherapy radioactive particles migration to the Paravertebral Venous System with long-term follow up. CASE PRESENTATION: Case 1: A 76-year-old male with intermediate-risk prostate carcinoma (clinical stage T2cN0M0; Gleason score3 + 4; prostate-specific antigen level of 18.51) underwent brachytherapy(I-125). Postoperation pelvic CT scan shown one seed were migrated

Management of intracardiac bullet embolisation and review of literature.

Vascular injury is a common complication in firearm injuries; however, intravascular missile embolism is relatively rare. There are only 38 documented cases of intravascular missile embolisation to the heart. Bullet embolisms are difficult to diagnose even with multiple diagnostic modalities and even once identified, the most optimal choice of surgical management is debated. Our patient presented with a gunshot wound to the right posterior shoulder. Cardiac focused assessment with sonography for trauma, chest X-ray, CT and echocardiogram were performed, showing missile location adjacent to the

Treatment Options for Scrotal Migration of Ventriculoperitoneal Shunts: Case Illustration and Systematic Review of 48 Cases.

BACKGROUND: Scrotal migration of intact or disconnected tubing is a rare complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunts. While some illustrative case reports can be found in the literature, a systematic review on treatment options is lacking. OBJECTIVE: To propose the first literature-based treatment algorithm on scrotal shunt migration. METHODS: We conducted a literature search using the keywords: "VP," "ventriculoperitoneal," "shunt," and "scrotum." We identified 36 publications with 48 cases reported including our index case. RESULTS: Median age at presentation was 13.5 mo (3 d to 65 yr) wh

Management of Anterior Chamber Dislocation of a Dexamethasone Implant.

PURPOSE: To characterise the surgical removal technique of a dislocated dexamethasone implant in the anterior chamber and to gauge its success by analysing corneal transparency and subsequent visual acuity recovery in the postoperative phase. METHODS: Description of a patient who presented with an anterior chamber dexamethasone implant migration through an inferior iridotomy performed previously for a silicone oil fill in aphakia. Visual acuity had dropped to counting fingers due to marked corneal oedema. RESULTS: The implant was removed using a 23-g needle aligned with the axis of the impla

Transesophageal echocardiogram causing denture dislodgement with upper airway partial obstruction.

A 30-year-old female was evaluated with transesophageal echocardiography to exclude an atrial septal defect. The patient denied having dentures or partial dentures during her pre-procedure history and immediately prior to the procedure. Following the transesophageal echocardiography it was discovered that the patient had a partial airway obstruction caused by dislodgement of her partial dentures. The case illustrates the importance of not only asking patients if they have dentures, partial dentures, or any dental appliances, but also manually checking and directly looking into patients' mouths

Laparoscopy in the treatment of a giant true epiphrenic diverticulum with migration of the gastrointestinal anastomosis staples.

Our case is a 62-year-old diabetic man with a long-standing history of regurgitation, halitosis, recurrent chest infection, and most recently upper gastro-intestinal bleeding. He was diagnosed 10 years earlier with an epiphrenic esophageal diverticulum, and also has a family history of this condition. Barium study revealed a 10 x 10 cm epiphrenic diverticula with a 4 cm neck, the lower margin of the opening lying 6 cm from the gastro-esophageal junction. Endoscopy confirmed the x-ray findings, and motility studies were within normal limits. The patient underwent laparoscopic excision of the di

Liver abscess caused by an unnoticed swallowed toothpick perforating the colonic wall.

We present an unusual case of a liver abscess caused by a swallowed toothpick in a 43-year-old man. The abscess was first punctured under percutaneous ultrasound control and intraveneous administration of antibiotics whereas the diagnosis of the foreign body stuck in the sigmoid bowel wall was only made by a follow-up computed tomography since the patient had no complains indicating a colonic pathology. Even more, the patient did not remember ever having ingested a foreign body. The wooden toothpick was then successfully removed by endoscopy. The case report stresses the need for a search of t

Intraperitoneal migration of epicardial pacemakers.

Intraperitoneal migration of epicardial leads and abdominally placed generators is a potentially serious complication. We report the case of an 83-year-old man who experienced intraperitoneal migration of an epicardial pacing system and consequent small-bowel obstruction. Laparotomy was required in order to free constrictive lead adhesions. The patient's postoperative recovery was satisfactory after the placement of a new pacemaker generator in the abdominal wall. Predisposing factors are analyzed and the literature is reviewed in order to clarify the mechanisms of sequelae associated with the

Migration of an ingested needle to the mesentery, causing intestinal necrosis.

A case of an intra-abdominal sharp foreign body with migration to the mesentery vessels, causing intestinal necrosis in a 20-year-old patient is presented. Emergency surgery with 75 cm small bowel resection was performed.

[Laparoscopic treatment of peri-appendicitis caused by intrauterine contraceptive device].

BACKGROUND: Intrauterine device may perforate the uterus and cause several complications. AIM: To report a case of laparoscopic treatment of peri-appendicitis caused by intrauterine device. PATIENT AND METHOD: A young female presented with pain in the right lower abdomen of 4 days of duration. On the physical examination, she had localized abdominal pain in the right lower abdomen with discrete guarding and pain on percussion and rebound tenderness. Ultrasonography showed an intrauterine device outside of the uterus, in the right lower of the abdomen. RESULTS: At laparoscopy, an inflammator

Peritoneal shunt migration into the pulmonary artery--case report.

A 48-year-old man underwent ventriculoperitoneal shunting for hydrocephalus secondary to subarachnoid hemorrhage due to left vertebral artery dissection, which had been successfully treated by trapping. The peritoneal catheter was correctly positioned via a right upper abdominal incision, and symptoms related to the hydrocephalus disappeared. One month later, the patient began to complain of pain on the right side of the neck. Chest radiography revealed that the peritoneal end of the catheter had migrated into the right pulmonary artery. The catheter route was explored through a small neck inc
