The paper provides the results of comprehensive clinical and X-ray studies of the digestive tract by using ultrasonography, fiber gastroscopy, heat imaging. The X-ray symptomatology of its dysfunctions was examined in 89 children with vertebrogenic diseases (osteochondrosis, scoliosis, developmental anomalies, sequelae of birth injury to the neck, spine, vertebral arteries).

We performed a cross sectional analysis of the feasibility and yield of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGE) in a cohort of patients aged 85 years or more. The study involved 218 patients who underwent diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in a district general hospital between 1994 and 1998. A case of acquired double pylorus, incident to peptic ulcer disease, is described. Fiberoptic gastroscopy confirmed a scarred antrum, a shallow prepyloric ulcer and a pylorus consisting of two large openings divided by a septum. The duodenum was visualized through each channel. This appearance probably represents a pyloroduodenal fistula caused by penetration of a prepyloric ulcer into the duodenum.

An extremely rare cause of bleeding from the digestive tract is presented which was a rupture of abdominal aorta aneurysm into duodenal lumen. On the basis of history data, clinical picture and gastroscopy, bleeding from gastric ulcer was diagnosed. The actual cause of bleeding was established during autopsy, not confirming at the same time the presence of gastric ulcer.

Magnetically Controlled Capsule Endoscopy (MCCE) presents a minimally invasive alternative to conventional gastroscopy for gastric and small bowel evaluation. This study assessed 30 patients using the NaviCam MCCE system, demonstrating effective visualisation of the oesophagus and stomach. Congenital antral webs are quite rare and easily overlooked or misdiagnosed. We report the case of a five-year-old boy who presented with symptoms of gastric outlet obstruction for four years; his condition was misdiagnosed twice as pyloric ulcer. Detailed gastroscopy revealed a congenital antral web. The stricture was successfully treated with endoscopic balloon dilatation without surgery.

Studying a series of 30 children with chronic gastritis (diagnosed by optic fiber gastroscopy and by mucosal biopsy), authors have founded important changes of the superficial mucosa and gastric glands. The histologic changes could explain the well-known functional alterations in chronic gastritis. They discussed also a possible immuno-pathogenic mechanism for these mucosal ultrastructural changes.

We report a case of duodenal gallstone obstruction, resulting from cholecystoduodenal fistula. Fistulization was associated with a repeat chronic inflammation and metastatic carcinomatous infiltration. The diagnosis was confirmed by ultrasonography, barium meal examination, and gastroscopy. An attempt at endoscopic extraction was unsuccessful and the patient was referred for operative therapy. We present a graphic algorithm for decision-making in Bouveret's syndrome.
