INTRODUCTION: In 2014 the National Health Service (NHS) in England released the Five Year Forward plan1, envisioning a shift in power from health professionals to patients and the public. In response the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) produced the "Patient, Public and Practitioner Partnership within Imaging and Radiotherapy: Guiding Principles" (P4) document which was implemented within four domains of radiography practice; service delivery, service development, education and research2. This project explored how these guidelines were implemented; and whether improvement to the qua

Vasovagal sensations (e.g., dizziness, nausea, and fainting) are one of the main reasons people find blood donation unpleasant. A better understanding of predictors of vasovagal sensations during blood donation could inform interventions designed to increase donor return rates. The present investigation examined the extent to which experience with blood donation and vasovagal sensations during blood donation uniquely predict the likelihood of donor return, even when controlling for affective expectancies. Participants presenting at community blood drives indicated how many times they have give

Despite substantial global efforts, adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Southern Africa remain disproportionately affected by HIV. In Zambia, the HIV prevalence among AGYW is nearly three times that of their male peers. The Informed Motivated Aware and Responsible Adolescents and Adults (IMARA) program, an evidence-based HIV/STI prevention intervention initially developed in the United States and later adapted in South Africa, demonstrated promising reduction in HIV risk through culturally tailored, mother-daughter-focused strategies. This paper outlines the process of adapting IMARA fo

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia is the most diagnosed bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) in England, but opportunistic testing remains low in general practice despite high prevalence among young people. Attempts to increase testing have been met with little success; therefore, there is a need to explore why rates remain low and how this may be improved.
AIM: To explore general practice staff perceptions of opportunistic chlamydia testing, including barriers, facilitators, interventions, and policies, using the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW).
DESIGN & SETTING: Qualitative interviews and focus

OBJECTIVE: To explore the factors that influence clinician prescribing choice when using depot anti-psychotics.
METHODS: A two-phase qualitative exploration of the attitudes to and knowledge about risperidone long-acting injection (RLAI) in a group of New Zealand psychiatrists. The first phase was conducted shortly after the treatment was funded (n = 16), the second phase was a year or so later (n = 35). Data was gathered using a focus group technique with scenario stimulus. The data were examined using thematic analysis.
RESULTS: Themes fitted the broad categories of who RLAI was used for,

BACKGROUND: Medications account for 8% of national health care expenditures, and prescription drugs are a focus of cost containment measures. Physicians have limited knowledge about drug costs, and no method of providing this information has demonstrated sustained cost reductions.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the impact of cost information in a computer-based patient record system on prescribing by family physicians.
METHODS: A yearlong, controlled clinical trial was conducted at the Family Medicine Center, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, a group practice staffed by attending ph…

CONTEXT: The use of ethnic identifiers in health systems is recommended in several European countries as a means to identify and address heath inequities. There are barriers to implementation that have not been researched.
OBJECTIVE: This study examines whether and how ethnicity data can be collected in Irish general practices in a meaningful and acceptable way.
METHODS: Qualitative case study data generation was informed by Normalization Process Theory (NPT) constructs about 'sense' making and 'engagement'. It consisted of individual interviews and focus group discussions based on visual pa

We monitored benzodiazepine prescribing in a family medicine center for two years. A total of 1,886 prescriptions were written for four benzodiazepines in the following order of frequency: diazepam, chlordiazepoxide, oxazepam, clorazepate. The most frequent diagnostic indications were anxiety neurosis, hysterical neurosis, and vertebral column disorders. Most benzodiazepine recipients were women, but for alcohol abuse more prescriptions were written for men. More than half of the patients were between the ages of 25 and 44 years. Although daily doses were reduced for elderly patients, the cour

Lakes in low- to middle-income countries like the Philippines are increasingly contaminated with antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) determinants, particularly beta-lactam antimicrobials, leading to difficult-to-treat multidrug-resistant infections. Despite growing concerns, few interventions have been thoroughly evaluated to mitigate environmental contamination from hospitals, agriculture, and livestock production. To address this gap, this study employed a socio-ecological framework to examine the social science aspects of antibiotics use in selected lakeside communities in the Philippines. Specif

OBJECTIVES: Microtransitions are brief, nonurgent transitions in care, such as room changes, recreational outings, and outpatient medical visits. Microtransitions occur at least as frequently as major transitions (eg, hospitalizations, discharges, etc.) and carry similar risks for adverse clinical outcomes if not properly managed. Post-acute and long-term care (PALTC) staff may be challenged to implement certain best practice recommendations for microtransitions. The objective of this study was to explore barriers and facilitators to successful execution of these recommendations in PALTC.

DIAGNOSTIC WORK-UP: The rescue, treatment and transport of patients with an injured spine require a systematic scheme with the subsequent rating of the findings and suspected diagnoses. In addition to the assessment of temporal urgency, the available resources and personnel, the duration and complexity of any possible technical measures that might be anticipated, the rational selection of immobilisation tools also plays a significant role. The most important medical rescue aids are the scoop stretcher and the spine board; the spine board, vacuum mattress and cervical collar are used to immobil
