A 46-year-old patient with 'locked-in syndrome' due to brainstem infarction developed symmetrically distributed, grouped erythematous cornified hemispherical papules on the fingertips and toes in 2 years. Histologically they showed psoriasiform changes. There was no evidence of internal malignancy nor a history of special drug intake. To our knowledge, such an eruption has not been previously reported.

Although penicillin still remains highly effective for syphilis, concerns have been raised that current regimens may be inadequate for the treatment of early syphilis. We report the failure of benzathine penicillin in the treatment of secondary syphilis. Extensive tracing of sexual contact history failed to identify sources of possible reinfection; therefore, we believe that this case represents a treatment failure and an ensuing relapse of secondary syphilis.

We present a new case of porokeratosis plantaris palmaris et disseminata (PPPD), observe in it a histological picture of cornoid lamella in palms, soles, arms, legs and trunk. In this dermatosis, mediant lectins and involucrin to establish keratinocytes alteration. The immunohistochemical studies have reveals not normal formation in the envelope cornea, and fundamentally D-galactose show a marked diminution in the cell membrane.

We describe here nine women who had similar distinctive clinical features that consisted of painful red-to-purple macules, papules, and plaques on the digits, predominantly on the toes. All patients reported that exposure to cold had preceded their symptoms. Histologic study demonstrated a lymphocytic vasculitis, characterized by lymphocytes infiltrating the walls of blood vessels in eight (88%) of nine lesions. This pattern of inflammation is different from the perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate that is common to lupus erythematosus, erythema multiforme, lymphocytic infiltration of the skin

Glucose tolerance was investigated in 41 patients with pustulosis palmaris et plantaris. Twenty-eight (68%) of the patients showed abnormal results. These findings suggest that pustulosis palmaris et plantaris is associated with impaired carbohydrate metabolism.

In previous study we found that clavicular lesions in chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) in young patients was associated with palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP). In this work the relationship between sternoclavicular lesions and PPP was studied in a group of adult patients. The sternoclavicular region of 52 patients with PPP and 25 control persons was examined by tomography. Among the PPP patients there were inflammatory lesions in the sternal synchondroses in 3 patients. There were no such lesions in the controls. In this unselected population of adult patients there was thus no de

Paraneoplastic dermatoses are markers of internal malignancy characterised by being relatively uncommon, associated with certain forms of cancer and occurring in connection with the cancer either before, during, or after the diagnosis has been made. Furthermore, the skin symptoms typically run a parallel course with the cancer. Most paraneoplastic dermatoses disappear when the primary tumour is removed and reappear in the case of recurrence or metastases of the cancer. Adult dermatomyositis is especially associated with breast and lung cancer. Necrolytic migratory erythema is seen in patients

Skin conditions such as acne, urticaria, psoriasis, and particularly eczema (dermatitis) may have many causes. However, a work-related aetiology is often forgotten. Hand eczema is the most common occupational dermatosis. Exposure to skin irritants is the main cause with wet work playing a major role. The cause cannot be inferred from the clinical picture and it is almost impossible to distinguish between irritant and allergic contact dermatitis. Besides observation and history-taking, epicutaneous contact allergological (patch) testing is necessary for this. In occupational dermatoses, patch t

Viruses are considered intracellular obligates with a nucleic acid RNA or DNA. They have the ability to encode proteins involved in viral replication and production of the protective coat within the host cells but require host cell ribosomes and mitochondria for translation. The members of the families Herpesviridae, Poxviridae, Papovaviridae, and Picornaviridae are the most commonly known agents for cutaneous viral diseases, but other virus families, such as Adenoviridae, Togaviridae, Parvoviridae, Paramyxoviridae, Flaviviridae, and Hepadnaviridae, can also infect the skin. We report on a 58-year-old woman with long-lasting (36 years) chromomycosis on the foot and secondary self-inoculation from foot to hand 4 years ago. Mycological classification was performed after culture on Sabouraud glucose agar. We used haematoxylin and eosin and Giemsa staining and an antibody to heat shock protein (HSP) 27 (Stress Gen, Clone G3.1) on paraffin-embedded and cryostat specimens of chromomycosis. The mycological culture revealed the fungus Fonsecaea pedosoi. Histopathology revealed dermal fibrosis with persistent fungi (Medlar bodies), numerous mast cells and pseudoepithelioma
