The reservoir site of Herpes simplex virus (HSV), from the primary infection until reactivation and in between recurrences was found to be in the dorsal roots of the trigeminal ganglion or in the sensory root ganglion. In a masked controlled study, we treated 41 patients who had active herpes simplex corneal ulcers with either 3% acyclovir of 3% vidarabine ointment five times daily for 14 days. There was no statistically significant difference between the two drugs with reference to mean healing time, efficacy of healing, development of stromal keratitis or iritis, post-treatment visual acuity, or adverse reaction.

Comparative studies of some properties of Herpes simplex viruses type I and II and their ability to reproduce latent infection in vitro revealed no essential differences between them. Virus-neutralizing and hemagglutinating antibodies to the virus type II are detected reliably more frequently in cervical cancer patients than in healthy ones. OBJECTIVE: Herpetic keratitis, either due to herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) or herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO), can recur after eye surgery.º Prophylaxis is postulated as necessary to avoid it. The objective of this study was to review the scientific evidence on the preventive methods used in the perioperative period in patients previously affected by HSK/HZO.
METHODS: An exhaustive search was carried out in the PubMed and Web of Science databases to identify relevant articles on prophylaxis and risk of recurrence of HSK/HZO in patients undergoing eye surgery up to 31 December 2019.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe a case of a 64-year-old man presenting with cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus retinitis coinfection in the setting of Burkitt lymphoma.
METHODS: A case report including multimodal imaging and anterior chamber polymerase chain reaction results was used.
RESULTS: This case highlights the importance of the clinical examination and maintaining high diagnostic suspicion for viral retinitis in immunocompromised patients.
CONCLUSION: Aqueous fluid PCR can be a useful adjunctive test to distinguish and confirm a diagnosis of viral retinitis.…

Although congenital herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection is rare, it is associated with severe morbidity. We report a 36-week gestational age infant who presented with atypical skin lesions, presumably mitigated by exposure to maternal antiviral suppressive therapy. The initial absence of typical herpetic vesicles and lack of viral detection in skin lesions delayed the correct diagnosis, highlighting the importance of differentiating HSV from other neonatal rashes.
