Socioeconomic deprivation is associated with worse in-hospital survival after isolated coronary artery bypass grafting in the UK.

OBJECTIVES: Previous studies have identified a correlation between socioeconomic deprivation and poorer outcomes following cardiac surgery in the USA, where healthcare is predominantly delivered through private system. However, the influence of socioeconomic deprivation in countries with universal healthcare systems, such as the UK, has been less extensively investigated. Therefore, we used the index of multiple deprivation (IMD) to evaluate the impact of socioeconomic status on early clinical outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in the UK. METHODS: All patients who under

Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Potential of Ethanolic Extracts of Duguetia vallicola (Annonaceae) against in-Hospital Isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that is especially dominant in people with cystic fibrosis; the drug resistance expressed by this pathogen and its capacity for adaptation poses a significant challenge to its treatment and control, thereby increasing morbidity and mortality rates globally. In this sense, the search for new treatment alternatives is imminent today, with products of plant origin being an excellent alternative for use. The objective of this research was to evaluate the antibacterial and antibiofilm potential and to explore the possible effect of ethanolic extra

Multidrug-resistant Bacillus species isolated from hospital soil environment is controlled by nanobiotics incorporated nanoformulation.

Multidrug resistance is a serious hazard to the environment, it claims a large number of lives every year. Lack of drug options and easy transmission of these organisms remain the biggest threat in treating the relative infections whose causative systems have evolved and become stronger in due course of time. Hospitals serve as one of the largest breeding grounds for harbouring these organisms. This study aims to isolate and characterize multidrug-resistant microorganisms from soil samples collected from hospital waste dumping premises. Polyherbal nanoformulation was synthesized from ethno-med

Isolated Trochlear Fracture in an Elderly Lady : A Rare and Interesting Case Treated in a Rural Coal Mines Hospital.

INTRODUCTION: Major orthopedic procedures place patients at risk for Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). DVT has a 10-40% incidence after isolated fractures of the tibia and distal bones of the lower extremity. Diagnostic techniques are venous compression ultrasonography, venography, and pulmonary angiography. Prevention methods for venous thromboembolism (VTE) include mechanical prophylaxis and pharmacological prophylaxis. Inferior vena cava filter (IVCF) intercepts thrombus in inferior vena cava and prevents it from reaching the pulmonary artery. CASE REPORT: A 39-year

Epidemiology of cryptococcal meningitis and fluconazole heteroresistance in Cryptococcus neoformans isolates from a teaching hospital in southwestern China.

Cryptococcal meningitis (CM), a common and serious opportunistic infection mostly caused by Cryptococcus neoformans, is primarily treated with fluconazole. Nevertheless, Cryptococcus neoformans strains that undergo repeated exposure to azoles can gradually acquire heteroresistance to fluconazole. The management of this specific CM infection poses a substantial challenge. Determining a globally accepted definition for fluconazole heteroresistance and developing effective and prompt methods for identifying heteroresistance is of utmost importance. We collected data on the clinical and epidemiolo

Dissemination of Class A Cephalosporinases and Class D Carbapenemases in Escherichia coli Isolates From a Tertiary Hospital in Sudan.

Introduction The high prevalence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and rising resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics, which is a global therapeutic concern, are caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli) extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) producers. It is unclear how E. coli that produces ESBLs spreads throughout Gezira state, Sudan. The study aimed to evaluate the dissemination of class A and class D resistance genes among E. coli and to recognize the antibacterial activity of the locally used cephalosporins and carbapenems. Methods One hundred and fifteen isolates of uropathogenic E. coli w
