PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of short-term therapeutic hydrocortisone intake on pituitary and adrenal function in healthy young male subjects.
METHODS: Ten physically active men received 50 mg/per day of hydrocortisone at 8:00 a.m. for 5 days. Cortisol, DHEA, and ACTH concentrations in plasma, and cortisol and DHEA concentrations in saliva were determined the week before, just before (8:00 a.m.) and 2 h after (10:00 a.m.) drug ingestion on days 1, 3, and 5 of treatment and day 1 post treatment.

Three male Caucasian patients with ALS were admitted to the hospital due to progressive dysphagia and dysarthria. During two 21-day courses of penicillin G and hydrocortisone, these patients' dysphagia and dysarthria resolved. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of pressure release (PR), phonophoresis of hydrocortisone (PhH) 1%, and ultrasonic therapy (UT) in patients with an upper trapezius latent myofascial trigger point (MTP).
DESIGN: Repeated-measure design.
SETTING: A pain control medical clinic.

Pentazocine administered in doses of 2.5 and 5.0 mg/kg i.v. produced EEG synchronization with dose-dependent relationships. When this drug was associated with anti-inflammatory compounds such as mefenamic acid or indomethacin, the EEG effect was decreased. This paper attempts to answer the controversial question, namely, how effective is chemonucleolysis in the treatment of discogenic back pain and sciatica? By using a type of double-blind study, a comparison has been made between 20 patients who were treated with chemonucleolysis and 20 who were treated with intra-discal hydrocortisone.
