Bier spots in two children.

Bier spots are a distinct pattern of vascular mottling. Most reported cases are in young adults, with the youngest case in the literature at age 15 years. We report two children, ages 11 and 12 years, with Bier spots. Patient 1 was an 11-year-old boy who presented with white spots on the dorsal aspect of his hands. Patient 2 was a 12-year-old girl who presented with similar spots on the dorsal aspect of her left forearm and left hand. In both patients, the spots were visible when extremities were placed in a dependent position and disappeared with elevation of the extremity. Both patients were

Ectopia lentis et pupillae with patchy depigmentation of the skin, hair and lashes: a new association.

We describe a case of a four year-old boy, with congenital ectopia lentis et pupillae, who developed patchy unilateral depigmentation of the skin, hair and lashes. The association between ectopia lentis et pupillae and transillumination of the iris is well documented in the literature, but it has never been reported with skin hypopigmentation.

Funduscopic observations in a colony of african green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops).

Funduscopic examinations were performed on 139 African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops). Notable observations were made in 5% including varying degrees of retinal hypopigmentation and nerve fiber myelination. Bilateral optic nerve head colobomas were found in one monkey. This species was easily tranquilized and examined using the described methods.

Hypomelanosis of Ito: report of two cases.

Hypomelanosis of Ito is an uncommon syndrome where bizarre, systematized hypopigmentation is often associated with neurological and other non-cutaneous abnormalities. We report two cases, one which was associated with laryngomalacia and sudden death (in which the parents were consanguineous), and one which was associated with episodes of loss of consciousness.

[Tilted disk syndrome. Symptomatologic aspects and diagnostic problems. Apropos of a case].

The tilted disk syndrome is a frequent congenital abnormality. The case reported here associates tilt of the disk crescent hypopigmentation of inferonasal quadrant and macula ectopy. We study the visual field defects which are attributed to a localized ectatic inferonasal area. We discuss then the opportunity to perform neurological examination.

Impact of a SLC24A5 variant on the retinal pigment epithelium of a Japanese patient with oculocutaneous albinism type 6.

Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) 6 is a non-syndromic type of OCA that has distinct ocular symptoms and variable cutaneous hypopigmentation. The causative gene of OCA6 is SLC24A5, which encodes NCKX5, a K+ -dependent Na+ /Ca2+ exchanger 5. NCKX5 is involved in the maturation of melanosomes, but its function is still unclear. In this study, we characterized a Japanese patient with OCA6. Genetic analysis revealed compound heterozygous variants in SLC24A5, c.590 + 1dupG, and c.598G>A (p.G200R). To clarify the functional significance of the missense variant, we generated a knock-in (KI) mouse model c…

A Case Report of Pityriasis Lichenoides-Like Mycosis Fungoides in Children: A Challenging Diagnosis.

Primary cutaneous lymphomas are rare diseases among the general population, and even rarer in children. Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most commonly diagnosed form in childhood. Several atypical clinical variants of MF have been reported, and pityriasis lichenoides-like MF (PL-like MF) is a recently described subtype. We report about a rare case of PL-like MF in an 11-year-old Malay boy with a 2-year history of multiple scaly erythematous papules associated with progressive and generalized hypopigmentation. This case report illustrates the significant dilemma in the diagnosis of the disease, pa…
