PURPOSE: To report our experience using intravenous infliximab for the treatment of tissue melt after Boston keratoprosthesis (B-KPro) types I and II in patients with autoimmune disease.
METHODS: Case series.

Infliximab (IFX) is commonly used to induce and maintain remission in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We report the first 2 cases of children with ulcerative colitis who had normal liver transaminases before IFX and were diagnosed with immunomediated hepatitis after IFX induction. Thrombocytopenia due to antitumor necrosis factorα agents is very rare. A 68-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis on methotorexate received infliximab (IFX). Three days after the first IFX infusion, she developed gingival bleeding, petechia, and gross hematuria. Her platelet count fell to 2000/μL. We administered a platelet transfusion and intravenous methylprednisolone. Three days after admission, her platelet count was 7000/μL and her bleeding persisted. We present a 37 year-old man with HLA-B27 positive ankylosing spondylitis for the last 3 years. Interestingly, he developed both alopecia areata and hypertrichosis simultaneously following infliximab treatment. PURPOSE: Infliximab may represent an adjuvant to surgical therapy in patients with severe anal Crohn's disease as it has been shown to affect rapid remissions in a proportion of cases.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Nineteen patients underwent infliximab therapy 5 mg/kg perioperatively to scheduled anal reconstructive surgery for complicated fistulising anal Crohn's disease.
