Nevoid basal cell carcinoma (BCC) syndrome is a genetically linked disorder characterized by multiple BCCs associated with various skeletal abnormalities and sometimes with mental retardation. The DNase I sensitivity of total chromatin has been analyzed in nuclei isolated from control and interferon-treated Daudi cells. A 63-year-old female with chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura refractory to prednisolone therapy was treated with interferon alpha-2b (IFN alpha-2b). In this open, pilot study, interferon (IFN) alpha-2b seemed effective in the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in patients with beta-thalassaemia. In seven of nine patients who completed the study alanine aminotransferase activities returned to normal, and a completely stable response 24 months after treatment was seen in five. Liver biopsy specimen showed a clear reduction in portal, periportal, and lobular necroinflammation in all five cases. Three patients stopped treatment early because of side effects.

Peyronie's disease is a collagen wound healing disorder of the penis that negatively affects the quality of life of afflicted men. According to the 2015 AUA Consensus Guidelines on Peyronie's Disease, minimally invasive intralesional therapies and surgical intervention form the basis of contemporary therapy for this disorder. These therapeutic options, along with selected portions of the guidelines, are explored in this review.

BACKGROUND: The Urabe AM9 vaccine strain of mumps virus contains two variants of V protein: VWT (of HN-A1081 viral population) and VGly (of HN-G1081). The V protein is a promoting factor of viral replication by blocking the IFN antiviral pathway.

AIM: This study evaluates the efficacy of weekly α-interferon (IFN) maintenance therapy in hairy cell leukaemia (HCL), a disease that remains incurable.
METHOD: Nine patients (six male, three female, aged 41-69 yrs) with hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) received IFN 3mU s.c. once weekly as long-term maintenance therapy after achieving optimal clinical and hematological response to initial therapy with thrice weekly IFN.
RESULTS: Eight of the nine patients are in a state of sustained response at 3-17 years (median 12 years).
CONCLUSION: Our results are similar to those from three previous studies

The aim of this study was to determine long-term efficacy and safety subcutaneous injection of interferon-alpha-2B in patients with mumps orchitis in terms of testicular volume and other testicular functions. Neuropsychiatric side effects of long-term recombinant interferon-alpha therapy consist of a large spectrum of symptoms. In the literature, cranial neuropathy, especially Bell's palsy, and movement disorders, have been reported much less often than other neurotoxic effects. We report a case of Bell's palsy in a patient with chronic hepatitis C during peginterferon-alpha and ribavirin therapy. The patient subsequently developed clinically inapparent facial nerve involvement on the contralateral side and showed an increase in choreic movements related to Huntington's disease during treatment.
