Thermo- and photoisomerization of astaxanthin was investigated in a model system (solutions in methanol and chloroform), and the dynamics of astaxanthin isomers and esters content was analyzed in Haematococcus pluvialis green algal cells exposed to factors inducing astaxanthin accumulation. In both systems, the astaxanthin isomerization process seems to be defined by a) the action of light (or heat), and b) the dielectric constant of the surrounding medium. A new efficient synthesis of polysubstituted pyrazin-2(1H)-ones via the sequential Ugi/Staudinger/aza-Wittig/isomerization reaction has been developed. In this paper the reaction products of the basic gold(I) species [Au(C6Cl5)2]- against the acid salt Ag(OClO3) in the presence of the S-donor macrocyclic ligand 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane ([9]aneS3) are studied in different solvents. The effect of applied pressure on the magnetic properties of the Prussian blue analogue K0.4Fe4[Cr(CN)6]2.8 x 16 H2O (1) has been analyzed by dc and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. The laser-induced isomerization of HCN is studied starting from a four-nuclear-degrees-of-freedom (4D) Hamiltonian, which includes the rotation (χ) of H around a fixed CN axis. This Hamiltonian reproduces the known exact quantized rovibrational states, including Coriolis coupling. We herein evaluate a biological applicability of 1,3-substituted cuneanes as an isostere of m-substituted benzenes based on its structural similarity. An investigation of a method to obtain 1,3-substituted cuneanes by selective isomerization of 1,4-substituted cubanes enables this attempt by giving a key synthetic step to obtain a cuneane analogs of pharmaceuticals having m-substituted benzene moiety. Biological evaluation of the synthesized analogs and in silico study of the obtained result revealed a potential usage of cuneane skeleton in medicinal chemistry.

The pungent compounds piperine and isomers thereof, secondary metabolites present in black and white pepper fruit, undergo light-induced isomerizations.
