Ipsilateral patellofemoral morphological abnormalities are more severe than those of contralateral joints in patients with unilateral patellar dislocation.

PURPOSE: To determine the differences in anatomic parameters between ipsilateral dislocated knees and contralateral non-dislocated knees in patients with unilateral patellar dislocation and to identify any variations in ipsilateral knees contributing to contralateral anatomic abnormalities. METHODS: A total of 82 patients with unilateral patellar dislocation from 2016 to 2019 were retrospectively evaluated. Bilateral anatomic factors, including the tibial tubercle to trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance, lower limb rotational deformities, trochlear dysplasia, patella tilt, and patellar height, w

Habitual dislocation of the patella.

The clinical presentation of 26 knees in 25 children with habitual dislocation of the patella caused by contracture of the quadriceps muscle was studied. They had all received intramuscular injections to the thigh during infancy. The predominant symptom was sudden giving way of the knee during activity. The patella dislocated everytime the knee flexed and when allowed to do so, full flexion was possible; when it was prevented from dislocating, knee flexion was limited in all cases. At operation, it was noted that the contractures were confined to the iliotibial band, vastus lateralis and the l

The Novelty of Orthopedic Rehabilitation After Conservative Management for Patellar Dislocation With Partial Tear of Medial Meniscus and Early Osteoarthritis in a 31-Year-Old Female.

Primary patellar dislocation or first-time patellar dislocation is the second most frequent cause of knee injuries which overall accounts for about 3% of other knee injuries. The patellofemoral joint is formed by the patella connecting to the femoral trochlea and creates both static and dynamic structures of the knee. There are basically three types of patellar dislocation: superior, lateral, and medial. The lateral dislocation is the most frequent one. Females are more vulnerable and are at higher risk than males. Muscular weakness or muscular imbalance leads to patellar instability, and ulti

Pes anserinus transposition for patellar dislocations. Long-term follow-up results.

Transposition of part of the pes anserinus was used to treat 96 knees in 78 patients with recurrent, habitual or permanent dislocations of the patella. The knees with habitual (48) and permanent (27) dislocations also had extensive release of superolateral contracture. The patients were reviewed at an average follow-up of 9 years 8 months. The medial stability of the patella had been improved in all the cases. There were no recurrences in 21 knees with recurrent dislocations. There were four recurrences (5.3%) in knees with habitual and permanent dislocations due to inadequate release of the s

Posterior dislocation after posterior stabilization TKA.

Posterior dislocation after primary total knee arthroplasty is a rare but serious complication. The authors described an 85-year-old man receiving bilateral total knee arthroplasty, which achieved good flexion arc immediately. Posterior dislocation occurred on right knee one month after operation, which was treated by close reduction and casting. Dislocation recurred in combination with infection. The mechanism of dislocation was checked under vision when performing open reduction and debridement. The tibial spine escaped from femoral cam in slight flexion and external rotation due to flexion

Ultrasonographic evaluation of patellar tracking in children.

Patellar positions with the knee in extension and in 10 degrees and 20 degrees flexion were measured by ultrasonography in both knees of 20 children with patellar dislocation and in both knees of 30 healthy children for controls. Ultrasonography proved to be applicable to measuring the distance between the most anterior point of lateral femoral condyle and patellar apex, the sulcus angle and the vertical position of the patella. Compared with normal knees, the sulcus angle was wider and the patellar position more lateral and cranial in both the dislocated and asymptomatic knees of the patients

Coronal Movement during Flexion and Extension of Knee Joints.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

OBJECTIVE: There are variabilities in the distance between the tibial tuberosity and the trochlear groove. The knee angle needs to be considered when talking about patellofemoral instability. METHODS: This retrospective study analyses the MRI images of knee angles from 0 and 30 degrees in the patella dislocation group (20 cases) and in the control group (20 cases) from Dec 2017 to Dec 2019. Two experienced orthopedic physicians separately measure the study with a blind experiment method. RESULTS: The TT-TG data of the patella dislocation group and control group are 17.88 ± 3.40 mm and 13.31

Classification of lesions of the medial patello-femoral ligament in patellar dislocation.

The remnants of the medial patello-femoral ligament (MPFL) of 67 knees, 18 with acute patellar dislocation and 49 with chronic patellar dislocation, were studied. The MPFL injuries of the acute cases were categorised into 2 groups: an avulsion tear type and a substantial tear type. The chronic cases were put into 3 groups: those with loose femoral attachment (9 knees), those with scar tissue formation or abnormal scar branch formation (29 knees), and those with no evidence or continuity of the ligament (absent type) (11 knees). It is concluded that incompetence of the medial patello-femoral li

Intra-articular dislocation of the patella: a rare variant to an uncommon injury.

Horizontal intra-articular dislocation of the patella is a very rare traumatic entity. We present an unusual case of horizontal intra-articular dislocation in which the patellar articular surface was facing upwards besides having an avulsion of the quadriceps tendon from the superior pole. There was associated posterolateral knee subluxation, which has not been described with intra-articular dislocation of the patella. A 20-year-old man presented with open patellar dislocation and locked knee after a roadside accident. The patient was managed successfully by open reduction and repair of the qu

Congenital dislocation of the patella. Part II: orthopaedic management.

Five patients (eight knees) with diagnosed congenital dislocation of the patella and well-documented charts were reviewed. Age at diagnosis ranged from 4 days to 6 years. A flexion contracture of the knee and femorotibial rotatory dislocation of varying degrees were present in all the cases. The quadriceps was active in all the cases, producing knee flexion in four cases. Foot deformity was associated in all the cases (clubfoot, calcaneovalgus, or congenital vertical talus). Gradual correction of knee flexion contracture with serial casting was attempted in five cases leading to an almost comp

[Patella dislocation].

The patella dislocation is defined as a non-recurring or recurrent dislocation of the patella from the patella surface of the femur. In general the patella dislocates in the lateral direction. Patella dislocations are subdivided in congenital, habitual or traumatic dislocations. Furthermore patella dislocations are differentiated in recurrent and chronic dislocations. Etiology of patella dislocations is not consistent and can be due to genu valgum, patella dysplasia or patella alta etc. Frequently the patella reposes spontaneously after dislocation. Besides examination of the knee, x-ray and m

Dislocation of the bearing of the Oxford lateral unicompartmental arthroplasty. A radiological assessment.

When the Oxford unicompartmental meniscal bearing arthroplasty is used in the lateral compartment of the knee, 10% of the bearings dislocate. A radiological review was carried out to establish if dislocation was related to surgical technique. The postoperative radiographs of 46 lateral unicompartmental arthroplasties were analysed. Five variables which related to the position and alignment of the components were measured. Dislocations occurred in six knees. Only one of the five variables, the proximal tibial varus angle, had a statistically significant relationship to dislocation. This variabl

Axial and lateral radiographs in evaluating patellofemoral malalignment.

This is a prospective study of 431 patients (862 knees) with patellofemoral pain, patellar dislocation, or other abnormalities of the knee joint. There were 217 asymptomatic knees with no contralateral problems for comparison. All patients had a history and physical and radiographic examination of both knees. The radiographs included standard anteroposterior views, axial views at 30 degrees of knee flexion, and standing lateral views at 0 degree and 30 degrees of flexion. The presence of patellar tilt or subluxation was noted on the axial view. The lateral view of the patella, with precise ove

Congenital medial dislocation of the patella with multiple congenital anomalies: case report and method of treatment.

Lateral dislocation of the patella is reported frequently in orthopaedics references but congenital medial patellar dislocation is reported rarely. An 8-year-old girl was referred to our department for knee surgery. She had genuvarum, knee flexion contracture and tibial internal rotation. She had multiple congenital anomalies at birth. The patella was palpated in the medial side of knee and its reduction to the midline was impossible. We performed an operative procedure for her medial dislocation of the patella. At the 1-year follow-up, the patella was in midline and there was no medial sublux
