Supereruptions catastrophically eject 100s-1000s of km3 of magma to the surface in a matter of days to a few months. In this study, we use zoning in quartz crystals from the Bishop Tuff (California) to assess the timescales over which a giant magma body transitions from relatively quiescent, pre-eruptive crystallization to rapid decompression and eruption. Thousands of households in coastal Madagascar rely on locally manufactured pitcher-pump systems to provide water for drinking, cooking, and household use. We report the case of a 81-year-old male with a long standing history of progressive dyspnea and depression. In spite of extensive cardiological, pneumological and neurological investigations the reason for his complaints remained unclear. Known for a parasellar meningioma MRI scans were repeated, but were shown to be stable. Finally endocrine investigations revealed the presence of a panhypopituitarism explaining the unusual clinical picture.
