Enhancing Emergency Room Mental Health Crisis Response: A Systematic Review of Integrated Models.

The integration of psychiatric treatment into emergency services is critical to improving the management of severe mental health emergencies. Emergency departments (EDs) are frequently the initial point of contact for patients with mental emergencies, but they are not always prepared to offer adequate care. This systematic review aims to analyze the effectiveness of collaborative care models (CCMs), psychiatric consultation-liaison (C-L) teams, and telepsychiatry in enhancing psychiatric treatment in emergencies. We searched numerous databases, including PubMed, PsycINFO, EMBASE, and the Cochr

[ECG DISPERSION MAPPING: ABILITY TO PREDICT THE PATIENTS' PROGNOSIS (REVIEW)].

ECG dispersion mapping (DM) refers to new technologies for the production and analysis of the electric field of the heart. The main area of application of the method is screening and selection of groups of patients who need further comprehensive examination. There is limited data on its use to predict mortality. The purpose of this review was to analyze studies on the application of the method for the prediction of mortality in patients hospitalized due to emergency conditions. We searched PubMed (MEDLINE) database and e-library by search words "dispersion ECG mapping" and their translation in

Antihypertensive therapy in patients on chronic lithium treatment for bipolar disorders.

Bipolar disorders are chronic conditions treated with lithium, which exerts deleterious effects on the kidney, among which nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, tubular acidosis and ultimately chronic kidney disease. Conversely, drugs that alter renal function can modify its serum levels and lead to the potentially fatal lithium intoxication. A search in the main library databases from 1975 to 2015 to identify interactions between antihypertensive drugs and lithium using the Population Intervention Comparison Outcome strategy provided only 30 reports of lithium intoxication. A regression analysis sh

Electrotherapy in the treatment of patients affected by rabies: experiments conducted at the "Maggiore" hospital of Milan in 1865.

During the nineteenth century, the scientific context of rabies treatment was weak due to the lack of the literature on specific nosology of the rabies disease, and unspecific and ineffective therapy approaches. Electrotherapy already represented an important therapeutic approach for nervous system diseases, although not specifically for rabies. In the present paper, the authors discuss the use of electrotherapy in the treatment of humans affected by rabies in an experimental study conducted at the Maggiore Hospital of Milan, with the aim of establishing the discovery of a possible specific th

The history of the tic douloureux: autopathograph of an Italian lawyer who suffered from trigeminal neuralgia from 1803 to 1824.

In the years from 1803 to 1824 an Italian lawyer suffered from paroxysmal facial pain that resembled essential trigeminal neuralgia. He kept a diary of his disease from its onset until 1823 when he was admitted to the old Arcispedale S. Anna in Ferrara (St. Anna's Hospital), Italy. The diary was recently discovered in the library of the Arcispedale S. Anna where it was probably put when the patient died. The patient was a man of notable culture and was able to describe with great diligence not only the course of his disease but also the most accredited treatments of that age. Some of the most
