Allograft lithiasis is a rare urologic complication of renal transplantation (RT). Our aim is to present our experience with minimally invasive surgical treatment of allograft lithiasis in our series of live-donor renal transplant recipients. In a retrospective analysis of 3758 consecutive live-donor RTs performed in our center between November 2009 and January 2017, the results of minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of renal graft lithiasis diagnosed at follow-up were evaluated. Twenty-two (0.58%) patients underwent minimally invasive surgery for renal graft lithiasis. The mean age w…

Epididymal lithiasis is a reproductive dysfunction of roosters that is associated with loss of fertility and is characterized by the formation of calcium stones in the lumen of the efferent ductules of the epididymal region. The efferent ductules of birds are responsible for the reabsorption of the fluid coming from the testis as well as luminal calcium. It has been hypothesized that the epididymal stone formation may be related to the impairment of local fluid or calcium homeostasis, which depends on hormones such as estradiol (E(2)). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate possible altera…

Between August, 1986 and February, 1988, double J ureteral catheters were placed in 441 renal units of 419 patients (22 were bilateral) with complex renal stones prior to ESWL. Catheter placement was achieved in all but 3.8% of the cases using several techniques, mainly via the retrograde route. Placement of the double J catheter was indicated in almost 75% of cases with a large stone mass (staghorn or pseudo staghorn). Only 11% of post-ESWL "Steinstrasse" were obstructive; of these, 80% resolved spontaneously. The complication rate was 21%. Most of these cases were mild complications. All cas

Treatment of large and multiple stones located in the ureter and/or the kidney may be challenging. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the results and complications of retrograde endoscopic lithotripsy for stones located in the urinary tract and to determine prognostic factors for treatment outcome. From April 2017 to March 2020, eligible patients for the active treatment of ureterolithiasis with or without concomitant nephrolithiasis <20 mm were enrolled in the study. The prognostic factors for the stone free rate (SFR) after the 1st and subsequent sessions and overall complications …

New Direct-acting Antiviral Agents (DAA)-based anti-HCV therapies currently provide extraordinary opportunities to cure patients. Drug-drug interactions are however a real challenge during treatment. In particular, in HIV-infected patients in cART, DAA choice is limited by such interactions, which can result both in reduced efficacy and toxicity. We report the case of a HIV-infected patient on cART with atazanavir/ritonavir/abacavir/lamivudine, who presented kidney and biliary lithiasis, the latter treated with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and endoscopic biliary sphincterotom…

We aim to compare perioperative outcomes, postoperative stone-free rate, complications, and predictors of treatment success in patients undergoing endourological treatment of bladder stones using laser versus mechanical energy. We performed a prospective multicenter analysis from the Bladder Lithiasis Assessment of Surgical Treatment (BLAST) registry. Patients undergoing endourological treatment for bladder stones between May 2025 and September 2025 were included and stratified according to the energy source used for stone fragmentation: laser or mechanical energy, reflecting a pragmatic, cate…

OBJECTIVE: Horseshoe kidney is the most common renal fusion anomaly. Its peculiar anatomical characteristics increase the risk of lithiasis formation and always entails a surgical challenge for its treatment.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We present the cases of men with horseshoe kidneys diagnosed by CT one case of alarge pyelic lithiasis with others of a smaller size in the calyces, and the other of a big solitary lithiasis in renal pelvis. RESULTS: We performed a laparoscopic pyelolitectomy to remove the pyelic lithiasis and we used a flexible cystoscope through a trocar to extract the calyceal st…

Juxtapapillary diverticula are often associated with biliary lithiasis. The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of juxtapapillary diverticula in choledocholithiasis and in cholecystolithiasis without common bile duct stones. The results of 520 consecutive retrograde cholangiographies were retrospectively analysed. The prevalence of juxtapapillary diverticula was higher in patients with biliary lithiasis than in patients without: 26.0% vs 10.5% (p less than 0.001). However, juxtapapillary diverticula were more frequently encountered in patients with choledocholithiasis than in those…

Treatment of symptomatic impacted and palpable submandibular lithiasis generally involves a combined transoral and sialendoscopic approach with an excellent success rate, and a low morbidity. Nevertheless, the approach of proximal or hilar lithiasis may in some cases represent a real challenge and cause major surgical discomfort, which could increase the risk of damage to the lingual nerve. This article details the surgical technique and advantages of submandibular lithiasis removal by transoral robotic surgery combined with sialendoscopy, together with a case video.

BACKGROUND: There are many different strategies for the treatment of the main bile duct lithiasis. When lithiasis of the biliary tract is suspected at a preoperative stage, we can treat patients with sequential treatment: endoscopic netrograde cholangiopancreatography followed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy. If common bile duct-lithiasis is recognized at an intraoperative stage, many options for treatment exist, one of which is intraoperative retrograde endoscopic sphincterotomy (ES) (laparoendorendezvous).
METHODS: We report our experience using the aforementioned technique with 58 patients…
