Whipple's disease (WD) is a rare chronic and systemic infection caused by the ubiquitous actinomycete Tropheryma whipplei. A case of localized infection with mesenteric adenopathy associated with a prolonged unexplained fever is reported herein. We describe a patient with facial cellulitis/erysipelas due to cowpox virus inoculation in the respiratory epithelium of the nose. Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) is the commonest life threatening opportunistic fungal disease in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infected individuals. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cytologic features of Kikuchi's lymphadenitis (KL). Smears from 10 patients with histologically proven KL were reviewed. In all cases, fine-needle aspiration (FNA) was performed prior to biopsy. To assess the validity of morphologic recognition, a blinded study, including smears from non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, nonspecific, and mycobacterial lymphadenitis was performed. A nonchromogenic Mycobacterium species was isolated from an AIDS patient with acute lymphadenitis. On the basis of the results of conventional tests, the strain appeared to be an atypical nonphotochromogenic Mycobacterium kansasii strain. Sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene revealed a unique nucleic acid sequence, suggesting that the isolate represents an undescribed pathogenic species.

A 25-year-old male patient with florid lepromatous leprosy presented with right axillary lymphadenopathy and a discharging sinus. He also had scabies with chronic right otitis media. Histopathological examination of the lymph node revealed lepromatous lymphadenitis coexisting with tuberculosis. This unusual combination of two different clinical entities is recorded in this case report.
