Introduction: Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign salivary gland tumor, primarily found in the parotid gland. Recurrences often extend into the parapharyngeal space (PPS), complicating management. This report presents a case of a recurrent giant PA in the PPS following a limited excision. Case Description: A 45-year-old male presented with a gradually enlarging neck mass, dysphagia, and mild dyspnea, having previously undergone limited excision of a PA. Clinical examination revealed a firm mass in the right parotid region. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a large mass in

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare and aggressive malignancy derived from mature histiocytes, accounting for less than 1% of hematologic disorders. Clinically, HS varies from localized disease with a solitary mass to disseminated disease, often associated with other hematolymphoid neoplasms. Its aggressive nature results in poor outcomes, with a median survival of six months in disseminated cases. HS is exceedingly rare in the oral cavity, with only ten cases reported in the literature. Diagnosis is challenging due to significant histological overlap with other entities. This report describes

Introduction Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a benign but aggressive lesion arising from sinovia. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is hardly ever involved. Methods We describe a case of PVNS arising in the left TMJ involving infratemporal fossa soft tissue and the skull base; we also present the reconstruction. Results A 37-year-old woman had progressive mandibular swelling for 6 months. Computed tomography of the skull revealed an osteolytic lesion in the left TMJ, involving the upper mandible, condyle, and glenoid fossa and extending to the infratemporal fossa and fossa media

Soft-tissue lesions in the oral cavity, one of the most common sites for tumors and tumor-like lesions, can be challenging to diagnose and treat due to the wide spectrum from benign indolent to invasive malignant lesions. We report an abnormally large, rapidly growing hyperplastic lesion originating from the buccal mucosa in a 28-year-old male patient. Clinical examination revealed a well-circumscribed, smooth-surfaced, pinkish nodular lesion measuring 2.3 × 2 cm, which suggested the differential diagnosis of irritation fibroma, pyogenic granuloma, oral lipoma, and other benign or malignant ne

INTRODUCTION: Ameloblastomas are rare head and neck tumors, and yet the most common odontogenic neoplasms. They account for 1% and 11% of all head and neck and odontogenic tumors respectively. Embryologically, they originate from remnants of odontogenic epithelium. Their aggressive, destructive nature, as well as their anticipated high rate of recurrence, even after en bloc resection, poses a surgical predicament.
PRESENTATION: We present a case of a 56 year-old Asian female with a multi-recurrent invasive ameloblastoma. Initially, the lesion was mandibular in location for which she underwent

BACKGROUND: The conventional management of follicular adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) involves the extraction of the associated impacted tooth. This systematic review incorporating a consecutive case aims to evaluate the feasibility and outcomes of a conservative, tooth-preserving strategy for follicular AOT in adolescents.
METHODS: A systematic search was conducted following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines across multiple databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, CENTRAL) and trial registries from inception to August 15, 2025

The primordial odontogenic tumor (POT) is a rare mixed odontogenic tumor believed to develop during early odontogenesis. It is composed of a fibromyxoid stroma with proliferation of mesenchymal cells surrounded by a layer of columnar cells exhibiting reverse polarity and pale cytoplasm. This article presents a case of primordial odontogenic tumor in the anterior region of the mandible of a 10-year-old male Caucasian patient who presented with an expansive intraosseous lesion in the anterior portion of the mandible and a delay in tooth eruption, with a 1-year history of asymptomatic swelling. BACKGROUND: Ameloblastoma (AM) is the most common benign odontogenic tumor, which is more often detected in the mandible than maxilla, especially the mandibular body and mandibular angle. Pediatric AM is a rare disease, especially in patients aged 10 and younger. Compared with the mainstream osteotomy and reconstructive surgery for adult ameloblastoma, there is more room for discussion in the treatment of pediatric ameloblastoma. The postoperative functional and psychological influence can not be ignored. Especially for children in the period of growth and development, an osteotomy is often ch

INTRODUCTION: Numb chin syndrome (NCS) or mental neuropathy (MN) is a disorder characterized by sensory neuropathy on the distribution of the inferior alveolar nerve or mental nerve. The most frequent causes are of odontogenic origin (infections, wrong therapies). Other etiologies are related to primary tumor, metastasis, osteoradionecrosis and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). The aim of this study is to highlight the clinical importance of NCS as one of the first symptoms of cancer or as consequence of drug therapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was conducted f

Desmoid tumors are benign fibrous neoplasms originating from the musculoaponeurotic structures throughout the body. These rare neoplasms have been shown to account in 0.03% of all cancers. Twenty-five percent of all desmoid tumors occur in children under 15 years of age. The infrequency of these tumors has limited studies to case reports and retrospective reviews dictating the authors recommended treatments and management. We present a case report of desmoid tumor involving the left mandible in a 14-month-old infant. His treatment course included 2 excisions, removal of the free rib graft seco

Malignant mental neuropathy (MMN) is a neurological manifestation of cancer, characterized by the presence of hypoesthesia or anesthesia restricted to the territory of the mental branch of the mandibular nerve. A systematic review of the literature has been made on MMN, analyzing the etiology, pathogeny, clinical characteristics, complementary tests and the prognosis. Sixteen studies, providing 136 cases were selected. Breast cancer and lymphomas were the most frequently associated malignant diseases. The most frequent pathogenic mechanisms producing neurological involvement were: peripherally

This article reviews the clinical behavior, histologic features, differential diagnosis, and treatment of a benign osteoblastoma. Benign osteoblastoma is a rare tumor constituting 1% of all primary bone tumors. Only 15% of osteoblastomas occur in the skull and jaw bones. The most common clinical presentation is a painful or tender swelling. A case is presented of a 21-year-old female who had noted discomfort for approximately 2 years, and the pain was not relieved by any analgesic. The choice of treatment was local excision and curettage. In this case, root resorption of the adjacent tooth, wh

The adenomatoid odontogenic tumor is a benign bony lesion of the maxilla and mandible, it represents 3% of all odontogenic tumors, and is more frequent in females in their second decade of life. It affects mainly the maxilla associated with embedded teeth, often canines, but it also occurs in the mandible, especially in the anterior region. It originates from epithelial cells of the dental lamina complex system, but the histologic feature with gland-like structures explains its name and classification. Clinically silent, it is often discovered during radiological examinations as a well defined

The presence of salivary tissue into the mandible represents often the submaxillary gland dislocation into the maxillary bones. Together with a literature revision, we have analysed the histogenetic hypothesis of this eterotopia and its prognostic implication. At last it has been described a clinical case treated in our Institute.
