The so-called "carcinoid" tumors of the breast are at present a difficult entity to define. Two histopathological features are used to recognize such tumors: argyrophilia and ultrastructural dense-core granules. Eight cases of "carcinoid" tumor of the breast, observed over a 5-year period, with 3.6% incidence over the total of breast cancers recorded during the same period, are reported. All patients were females with a mean age of 55.2 years. Argyrophilia was found in all tumors and dense-core granules were observed in five studied ultrastructurally. No patient had nodal or distant metastases

Background Breast-conserving surgery (BCS) can make breast cancer treatment less disfiguring and more aesthetically acceptable for women. However, very few patients in India chose to undergo BCS surgery despite eligibility. Therefore, this study aims to explore the factors influencing the surgical choice in the treatment of breast cancer in India. Materials and methods This prospective study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Central India. Women having stage I/ II breast cancer diagnosis with a tumor size <5 cm were considered. A detailed self-designed questionnaire was used. A chi-

The clinical staging of the regional lymphatics in patients with breast carcinoma is currently receiving much attention in the medical literature. However, controversy still exists regarding surgical staging of the axilla. Most recently, the technique of selective sentinel lymphadenectomy has been applied to staging of breast carcinoma. Our experience with this technique is presented. From July 1, 1995 through December 31, 1996, 20 patients underwent 21 selective sentinel lymphadenectomies prior to level I, level II, and partial level III axillary dissections. There were 13 modified radical ma

Giant, ulcerated triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) presents major therapeutic challenges. We report a 39-year-old woman with a 14.3 cm ulcerated TNBC (cT4bNxM0) who developed infection after intravenous chemotherapy. To achieve rapid local control, a multidisciplinary team elected to perform transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), followed by systemic chemo-immunotherapy using nab-paclitaxel and the PD-1 inhibitor Toripalimab. This multimodal approach led to marked tumor regression and improvement of skin ulceration, enabling curative surgery with modified radical mastectomy and complex rec

Gastrointestinal (GI) metastases from breast cancer are uncommon, with rectal involvement being particularly rare. Here, we present a case of a 55-year-old female with a history of bilateral breast cancer who developed rectal metastasis seven years after initial diagnosis. The patient was initially diagnosed in 2017 with left breast invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and right breast ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Despite receiving comprehensive treatment, including modified radical mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and endocrine therapy, she experienced multiple metastases involving the

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the breast is an extremely rare malignancy, accounting for less than 1% of all breast tumors. Diagnosis is challenging because its morphology overlaps with that of other spindle cell lesions, and standardized treatment guidelines are currently unavailable. A 44-year-old woman presented with a rapidly enlarging, firm, 15×15 cm mass in the left breast. She had previously undergone surgery elsewhere, with diagnoses of leiomyoma and desmoid-type fibromatosis. Imaging demonstrated a lobulated mass without evidence of metastasis. Excision revealed pleomorphic spindle cells

Primary neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the breast are extremely rare and diagnostically challenging tumors. We are reporting a female patient in her 40s with progressively enlarging, painless lumps measuring 30 mm and 15 mm in the upper and lower inner quadrants of the right breast for three months. Mammography reported it as the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BIRADS) IVC lesion. A fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) done on the right breast lump and right axillary lymph node was reported as carcinoma with metastasis. Subsequent biopsy and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were repo

Primary breast melanoma is an exceedingly rare neoplasm, accounting for < 0.5% of all malignant breast tumors. Its scarcity and highly variable clinical presentation often delay diagnosis and complicate management. We report the case of a 55-year-old woman with a primary non-cutaneous melanoma of the right breast initially misdiagnosed as high-grade ductal carcinoma. As a result of discordant biopsy results, the lesion progressed developing ulceration, tissue destruction, and axillary metastases. Definitive diagnosis was established via repeated incisional biopsies and immunohistochemistry. Ma

Malignant phyllodes, along with ductal carcinoma, is known as metaplastic cancer of the breast. This tumor is additionally known as breast carcinosarcoma. Malignant phyllodes in conjunction with ductal carcinoma is a rare finding in routine clinical practice. We describe the case report of a 47-year-old female patient who arrived with a large right breast mass. A core biopsy was performed, and histopathological examination indicated that the tumor was a malignant phyllodes tumor. A positron emission tomography (PET) scan revealed hyper-metabolic and hypo-metabolic tumors with perilesional stra

Filariasis is a major health problem of the tropical and subtropical regions, but filariae are also found in temperate climates. The disease is endemic all over India and microfilariae have been observed as coincidental findings with inflammatory conditions and neoplastic lesions. We report a rare case of a 40-year-old female from a nonendemic area presenting with lump in the left breast. The skin overlying the mass was fungating and ulcerated. Ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes were palpable. Fine-needle aspiration cytology revealed highly cellular smears having ductal epithelial cells arranged

BACKGROUND: To determine whether the application of 1% hydrocortisone cream during radiation therapy can prevent the occurrence of moist desquamation.
METHODS: Fifty adult female breast carcinoma patients were randomized after modified radical mastectomy and chemotherapy to receive prophylactic placebo cream (n = 27) or 1% hydrocortisone cream (n = 23) during radiation therapy. The patients, caregiver and assessor were all blinded to the treatment received. Occurrence of moist desquamation, severity of acute radiation dermatitis (ARD) and hyperpigmentation were evaluated weekly until the end

Breast cancer is the most common primary source of orbital metastasis. Metastasis occurs through hematogenous spread and predominantly involves the choroid. We present a case of a metastatic subconjunctival mass associated with primary breast cancer. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of its kind. A 41-year-old woman presented with complaints of conjunctival injection and a foreign body sensation in the left eye. She had a history of breast cancer and had been treated 2 years previously with modified radical mastectomy followed by adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Slit-lam

Introduction. Most common metastasis sites of breast cancer are the lungs, bones, liver, and brain, whereas uterine involvement by metastatic breast disease is rare. Metastatic carcinoma of the uterus usually originates from other genital sites, most commonly being from the ovaries. Invasive lobular carcinoma spreads to gynecologic organs more frequently than invasive ductal carcinoma. Case Report. A 57-year-old postmenopausal woman was diagnosed with breast carcinoma 2 years ago and modified radical mastectomy was performed. Pathological examination of tumor revealed invasive ductal carcinoma

Breast conservative therapy (BCT) is a well accepted form of treatment for patients with early stage breast cancer. The incidence of ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence is higher in patients undergoing BCT than in those patients undergoing Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM) without any adverse effect on survival. Patients treated with BCT are put on active surveillance using clinical breast examination and mammography. The radiologist reading the follow-up mammograms is on high alert and any neo-density is viewed with suspicion. MRI may be used as a problem solving tool. At such a time, an inno

Cytokeratin-positive interstitial reticulum cell (CIRC) sarcoma is a rare type of dendritic cell tumor derived from a subset of fibroblastic reticular cells. Expression of cytokeratins and extranodal location of these tumors can lead to a misdiagnosis of carcinoma. We report two cases of CIRC sarcomas primarily involving the scalp and breast. Patients were referred with an initial diagnosis of carcinoma. Case 1 underwent wide local excision of the scalp tumor with left posterolateral neck dissection. Case 2 had modified radical mastectomy for the tumor in left breast. Histopathological examina

Primary lymphoma of the male breast is extremely rare. We report a case of a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in a male patient. A 67-year-old man presented with a palpable mass in the right breast and ipsilateral axillary lymphadenopathy. At operation a 6 x 5 x 4-cm mass was excised, and a frozen section demonstrated malignancy. A modified radical mastectomy was then performed, together with axillary lymph node clearance. Histological examination established the diagnosis of a primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the breast. The patient was referred for chemotherapy and died a year later from syste

Multicentric breast cancer is one of the most important contraindications for breast conserving therapy. While the sensitivity of mammography decreases in the dense breast, the present study was designed to assess the efficacy of contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the diagnosis of multicentric breast cancer compared to clinical examination, mammography and sonography. In 38 of 46 patients who underwent modified radical mastectomy, multicentric breast cancer was found histologically according to the definition of Holland et al The sensitivity for the diagnosis of multicentri

A case of apocrine carcinoma of the breast presenting as two cysts is reported. A 60-year-old woman had two soft, mobile, well-defined masses measuring 4 x 2.5 cm and 1.5 x2.5 cm in diameter in the lower-inner quadrant of the right breast. Tumor markers such as CEA, CA15-3, BCA225 and NCC-ST-439 were within normal limits. Mammography showed two oval radioopaque masses with microcalcificatin in the smaller one. Ultrasonography disclosed two cysts and papillary projection in the larger one. Fine needle aspiration cytology revealed apocrine carcinoma of the breast. Excisional biopsy confirmed the

While quadrantectomy or lumpectomy with axillary node sampling and dissection, or both, has been shown to be an equivalent alternative to modified radical mastectomy, some surgeons have begun to omit axillary dissection altogether in patients with extremely small tumors, believing that the axilla is unlikely to be involved. In reviewing the incidence of axillary involvement with 69 nonpalpable primary tumors in one community for nine years, 20 per cent of patients with invasive carcinoma had axillary involvement. In a four year review of the Connecticut Tumor Registry, we identified 137 instan
