Organizational Factors that Impact Trust in Healing Relationships: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Interpersonal trust is understood to be context-dependent, but literature describing patient-clinician trust has often ignored the impact of the local organization on this trust, neglecting the opportunity for clinicians and organizations to intervene to promote trust. OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between organizational factors and interpersonal trust between patients and their primary care clinicians. DESIGN: Qualitative study using semi-structured interviews of 40 patient-clinician dyads that were analyzed using a modified grounded theory approach. PARTICIPANTS: Prim

Compassion fatigue and COVID-19: A global view from nurses.

BACKGROUND: Due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 variants, the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 may create psychological burdens on nurses. Nurses with high levels of compassion fatigue (CF) are more likely to make work errors, deliver poor-quality care, and have greater intent to leave their position. OBJECTIVES: This study utilized the social-ecological model to examine factors associated with nurses' CF and compassion satisfaction (CS) during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Data were collected from the United States, Japan, and South Korea from July to December 2020. The Professi

How safe is too safe? A dual-pathway framework for understanding the dark side of psychological safety.

Psychological safety has become one of the most celebrated constructs in organizational behavior, consistently linked to voice, learning, and team effectiveness. This paper challenges the assumption that reducing interpersonal risk is universally beneficial. Psychological safety operates through two competing pathways: one that enables expression and participation, and one that weakens the interpersonal evaluative pressure, self-monitoring, and norm adherence that sustain coordination and performance. This second mechanism is termed the regulatory loss pathway. The pathway operates through thr

Beyond pay and balance: organizational support as a driver of professional development across generations in the Chilean mining industry.

INTRODUCTION: Professional development is increasingly recognized as a key component of sustainable careers, particularly in demanding sectors such as mining. However, limited evidence exists on how perceived organizational support relates to professional development, pay satisfaction, and work-life balance across generational cohorts in this context. METHODS: This study examined the relationship between Perceived Organizational Support (POS) and Professional Development (PD) in Chile' s mining sector and explored whether POS was associated with Pay Satisfaction (PS) and Work-Life Balance (WL

The implementation of person-centred plans in the community-care sector: a qualitative study of organizations in Ontario, Canada.

BACKGROUND: Person-centred planning refers to a model of care in which programs and services are developed in collaboration with persons receiving care (i.e., persons-supported) and tailored to their unique needs and goals. In recent decades, governments around the world have enacted policies requiring community-care agencies to adopt an individualized or person-centred approach to service delivery. Although regional mandates provide a framework for directing care, it is unclear how this guidance is implemented in practice given the diversity and range of organizations within the sector. This

Hemispheric asymmetries in rodent models of neurological diseases: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Hemispheric asymmetries are a core organizational principle of the vertebrate brain, but they are still not fully integrated into the study of preclinical models of neurological disease. Although many rodent models naturally include lateralization through unilateral interventions, hemispheric differences are not consistently examined or systematically reported. METHODS: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, combining evidence from 48 studies on hemispheric asymmetries in rodent models of neurological conditions, including mild traumatic brain injury, epi

Transforming the management of the critically ill cancer patient: Teamwork, rapid response systems and quality of care.

In recent years, the paradigm of the critically ill onco-hematologic patient has shifted, driven by new therapies and organizational models that require individualized assessment. Early detection of clinical deterioration is essential and relies on tools such as NEWS2, Rapid Response Teams, and biomarkers, together with the integration of multidisciplinary meetings, which improve survival and optimize resource use. In the ICU, the main reasons for admission are respiratory failure, shock, organ failure, and sepsis. Early admission and dynamic reassessment of the support provided are crucial. T

Management of tobacco smoking among pregnant women: A qualitative study with French midwives to inform local practice recommendations.

BACKGROUND: Smoking during pregnancy remains a major public health issue and a leading preventable cause of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. In France, midwives play a central role in antenatal care and are key actors in smoking cessation support. However, little is known about how smoking cessation is managed in routine maternity care and how organizational and professional factors shape these practices. OBJECTIVES: To explore midwives' experiences in managing tobacco use during pregnancy, identify perceived barriers and facilitators in routine practice, and generate context-specific, pr

Association Between Work Stress and Sleep Disorders in Law Enforcement: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Law enforcement personnel face diverse occupational stressors, including shift work, organizational pressure, operational demands, and traumatic incidents. Previous systematic reviews have primarily focused on prevalence estimates of sleep disturbances, whereas the strength of the association with occupational stress and the relative contribution of distinct stressor domains remain to be systematically quantified. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines and was registered with PROSPERO (CRD420261284369). Four databases (PubMed, Cochrane Li

A primary care/multidisciplinary harm reduction clinic including opiate bridging.

Wait times for methadone maintenance programs are associated with significant dropout rates. This puts the substance user at risk of continued illegal and high-risk behavior. We describe a unique model of daily dispensing opiates other than methadone to "bridge" clients awaiting methadone management. The Health and Harm Reduction Clinic is a community-based, primary care health clinic in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, an urban city of 1 million. The team is comprised of a family physician, nurse practitioner, social/mental health worker and addictions counsellor. Descriptive data utilizing chart r

Modeling efficiency at the process level: an examination of the care planning process in nursing homes.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the efficiency of the care planning process in nursing homes. METHODS: We collected detailed primary data about the care planning process for a stratified random sample of 107 nursing homes from Kansas and Missouri. We used these data to calculate the average direct cost per care plan and used data on selected deficiencies from the Online Survey Certification and Reporting System to measure the quality of care planning. We then analyzed the efficiency of the assessment process using corrected ordinary least squares (COLS) and data envelopment analysis (DEA). RESULTS: Bo

A methodology for choosing a physician profiling system: the case of First Option Health Plan.

The public continues to demand improved health care at affordable costs. It appears that this public pressure will force health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and other health care providers to face their toughest days in the years to come. They will need to find solutions to resolve this "quality and cost" problem. One method that is likely to have the ability to improve quality of care and control costs is physician profiling. That is, data related to a physician's care or outcomes can be collected and compared with profiles of various populations, for example, other similar providers in a

Design for worksystem safety using employees' perception about safety.

In this paper, the predictors of work injuries based on Leamon's Man-Machine model are identified in a sociotechnical framework. Several hypotheses are developed and tested to describe the accident/injury phenomena in mining worksystems. Possible designs for improving work-system's safety are specified using scaled Mahalanobis distance (MD). A case control study design is adopted. Five variables namely, age, negative-affectivity, physical-hazards, job-dissatisfaction, and safety-practice are emerged as significant contributors to work injuries for the mines studied. Two most interesting findin

Mechanism-informed transition from pediatric to adult care in sickle cell disease: a case study.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare transition (HCT) refers to the shift from a child-centered to an adult-centered model of care, a process that, when well-functioning, can reduce disengagement and improve satisfaction with care. The Six Core Elements (6CE) framework structures HCT services; however, its implementation process remains understudied, limiting its broader applicability. Learning how to effectively implement the 6CE strategies can enhance their application in real clinical contexts. This case study describes the successful implementation of a 6CE-informed transition program for adolescents an

Protocol of a mixed method research design to study medical respite programs for persons experiencing homelessness.

Medical Respite Programs (MRPs) characterize a care model that has been developed to address the health care and social needs of persons experiencing homelessness by providing post-acute hospital care in a safe environment. Although this model has been shown to reduce hospitalizations, improve health outcomes and increase access to health services, prior studies of MRP programs and outcomes have been limited to individual sites and may not generalize to the population of individuals receiving MRP care. This study protocol describes a mixed method design to collect organizational, provider, and

Millennium Pharma Summit--strategic planning to increase growth and generate pharmaceutical shareholder value. 26-27 January 2000, London, UK.

With mergers and acquisitions (M&As) being the 'watch words' of the moment among those involved in the pharmaceutical industry, this meeting aimed to bring together the senior hierarchy of both medium and big pharma to discuss the issues pertinent to competitive survival and shareholder profit delivery. Along with a more objective analysis delivered by a number of management consultancy representatives, the summit presented delegates with interesting and often controversial viewpoints on: strategic partnerships and alliances; developing organizational models to generate profitability; the prom
