We report the case of a primary malignant melanoma arising from the mucosa of the hard palate on a fibrovascular stalk. This is to our knowledge the first report of a pedunculated melanoma in this location. The possibility of a more favorable prognosis, because of the stalk, which shows no signs of invasion by the neoplasm, is considered.

Incidence of adenomas of the major duodenal papilla has increased in recent years due to widespread endoscopic screening. These adenomas require resection due to high risk of malignant transformation. Currently, minimally invasive endoscopic interventions are often considered as an alternative to surgical treatment. Combination of major duodenal papilla neoplasms with choledocholithiasis and bile duct strictures are particularly difficult for endoscopic treatment. A 56-year-old patient underwent complex endoscopic treatment for a large adenoma of the major duodenal papilla spreading to duodena

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The objective of the current article is to promote a literature revision of the relationship between the prevention of intraepithelial neoplasms (PeIN) and invasive penile cancer, and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, aiming to enumerate the pros and cons of immunization.
RECENT FINDINGS: The immunization against the HPV is sufficiently safe and many countries have incorporated the vaccine to their immunization calendar. Compared with men, the sampling size and the evidence quality of scientific researches among the female population are more robust. Some randomized a

Although cardiac tumors are rare, they nevertheless represent an important subgroup, the diagnosis of which is challenging for the primary care physician. Symptoms are not characteristic and serious complications including stroke, myocardial infarction and even sudden death from arrhythmia may be the first signs of tumor. The most common primary cardiac neoplasm is the benign myxoma and the most frequent primary malignant lesion is sarcoma. Cardiac metastases from distant primary carcinomas are now frequently encountered. Echocardiography until the past decade was the only consistently reliabl

Odontogenic myxoma is usually a benign neoplasm, although it has the ability to infiltrate surrounding tissues thus becoming locally invasive. Furthermore, it has a moderately high recurrence rate and can sometimes display a really aggressive behaviour. An unusual case of a 48-y-old woman in whom odontogenic myxoma recurred 11 years after excision of the primitive lesion is reported. Although rare, the possibility of malignant evolution led us to consider which was the most appropriate management of both the neoplasm and the recurrence. A careful assessment of the clinical, radiographical, tom

A 23-month-old, male, Labrador retriever dog with a history of slowly progressive right-sided atrophy of the masticatory muscles was submitted for necropsy. A highly invasive neoplasm which destroyed adjacent soft tissues including the right trigeminal nerve was found in the right side of the cranial cavity. Metastases to the liver were also present. Microscopical features of the neoplasm were compatible with those of rhabdomyosarcoma, embryonal type. This diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistochemical demonstration of desmin and muscle actin within tumour cells. In human patients, rhabdomyosa

Coexisting (collision) cutaneous neoplasms of various types and combinations are well documented but relatively uncommon. This report describes the unusual occurrence of a malignant melanoma in situ (MMIS) colonizing a basal cell carcinoma (BCC). A 69-year-old man was considered clinically to have a melanocytic neoplasm or a pigmented BCC of the right ear. Biopsy showed an MMIS, lentigo maligna type, juxtaposed to a typical BCC. The MMIS extended peripherally and into the BCC. Interspersed among the basaloid epithelial cell aggregates that extended 1.70 mm into the dermis were atypical melanoc

Thymomas are the most frequently encountered neoplasm of the anterior mediastinum. Thymic neoplasms can be divided into 3 broad categories based on histologic appearance and behavior. Thymomas are tumors with benign-appearing cellular features. If there is no gross or microscopic invasion beyond the capsule, the tumor is considered benign. Any tumor with gross or microscopic invasion through the capsule is considered malignant. In a third category, thymic tumors which have histologically malignant epithelial features, are considered thymic carcinomas and generally have an adverse prognosis. Mi

A study comparing in situ hybridization using nonradioactive DNA probes directly conjugated with horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and 35S-labeled antisense RNA probes for human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6/11, 16, and 18 was performed on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue from 34 lesions of the cervix and vulva. These lesions included exophytic condylomas and intraepithelial and invasive neoplasms. HPV 6/11 was detected in two of four condylomata acuminata by both in situ techniques. HPV 16 was detected in 13 of 30 cases of intraepithelial and invasive neoplasms by both methods. Discordance

The implementation of screening endoscopy and the increasing availability of image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE) has significantly improved the detection of superficial non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (SNADETs). At the same time, growing experience with advanced endoscopic resection (ER) techniques throughout the gastrointestinal (GI) tract has recently extended to the duodenum-an organ traditionally regarded with caution by endoscopists due to its substantial risk of major treatment related complications. These advances have made it possible to achieve successful endoscopic managements of

BACKGROUND: Sinonasal neuroendocrine carcinoma is a rare head and neck tumor that represents only 5% of sinonasal neoplasms. This lesion has a high risk of invasion to adjacent structures such as the orbit, skull base, and soft tissues, with symptoms usually being nonspecific. Most cases are diagnosed in late stages, decreasing overall survival without treatment. To date, there is no consensus on management given its low prevalence; however, it has been shown that multimodal therapy, with the correct surgical approach as the mainstay, offers a better disease-free prognosis.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a causative agent for intraepithelial squamous neoplasms, particularly on mucosal surfaces. HPV has a well-established association with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oropharynx and genital tract, and recent studies suggest a potential role in ocular and periocular squamous neoplasms. Multiple high-risk HPV genotypes are associated with histologically similar squamous neoplasms, and some HPV genotypes have been differentially associated with high- or low-grade lesions.
METHODS: Squamous lesions were screened with immunohistochemical markers p16

OBJECTIVE: There have been conflicts concerning the criteria for diagnosing malignant epithelial neoplasms of thymic origin. To differentiate thymic carcinomas from thymomas, the maturation stage of T-lineage lymphoid cells infiltrating thymomas and thymic carcinomas was examined by flow cytometry to associate it with the degree of tumor malignancy.
METHODS: Multidimensional flow cytometric analysis was performed on the lymphoid cells extracted from 27 thymic epithelial neoplasms (14 encapsulated thymomas, ten invasive thymomas, and three thymic carcinomas) by using anti-CD3, -CD4, -CD8, -CD1

Fibrosarcoma is an uncommon, malignant soft-tissue tumor that is rarely found as a primary neoplasm in the foot. A case report is presented that demonstrates a large, locally invasive fibrosarcoma of the plantar aspect of the foot with initial symptoms consistent with plantar fasciitis. Below-the-knee amputation was performed as curative treatment.

Urinary bladder neoplasms are clinically relevant in dogs and cats and are also common in humans, all of which may share exposure to environmental factors that influence disease risk. In Veterinary Medicine, however, their etiological determinants remain poorly defined. Urinary bladder neoplasia range from non-invasive lesions limited to the mucosa to invasive forms that infiltrate the muscular layer, which are more aggressive and metastatic. In dogs, invasive urothelial carcinoma (UC) represents the most frequently diagnosed type, while in cats, it is less common but displays similar biologic

Appendiceal malignant neoplasms typically present as acute appendicitis. However, certain histological subtypes exhibit highly aggressive biological behavior and may manifest with atypical clinical features, posing significant diagnostic challenges. We report two cases of aggressive appendiceal malignancies characterized by extramural invasion into the distal colon and misleading preoperative presentations. Case 1 involved a 74-year-old woman presenting with progressive weight loss and a palpable right lower quadrant mass without appendicitis-related symptoms. Imaging demonstrated extensive wa

Mucinous urachal neoplasms are rare and can present as benign cystadenomas, mucinous cystic tumors of low malignant potential (MCTLMPs), or invasive adenocarcinomas. MCTLMPs occupy a borderline category characterized by mild-to-moderate atypia and papillary/villous architecture without stromal invasion. Here, we describe a 54-year-old male patient who presented with persistent dysuria and was found to have a vesicourachal diverticulum. Surgical management involved a robot-assisted partial cystectomy with complete excision of the urachal remnant. Histopathologic examination revealed a multilocu
