A case of a lobulated polypoid tumor of the ureter showing histologically high grade malignancy is reported. Such a tumor is rare in the bladder, and to date none have been documented in the ureter. This tumor is probably the most malignant urothelial tumor of the inverted type in the urinary tract, including inverted papilloma.

BACKGROUND: Inverted papilloma is a benign sinonasal tumor that arises from a localized attachment site. These attachment sites, however, have not been fully characterized in the literature. The objective of this research was to determine the specific distribution of attachment sites in patients with sinonasal papilloma.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis of adult patients with sinonasal papilloma presenting to the University of Virginia between 1999 and 2010. These patients were reviewed and compared to historical controls with regard to histologic subtype and pedicle attachment site.
RESULTS:

BACKGROUND: There is no consensus as to whether all routine bilateral polypectomy specimens should be sent for formal histopathological diagnosis to exclude underlying neoplastic pathology. This study assessed the necessity for histopathological investigation as routine practice in cases of bilateral and unilateral nasal lesions by estimating the incidence of unexpected pathologies. It also evaluated the ability of computed tomography to predict histopathological diagnosis in patients with unilateral nasal lesions.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted of 98 patients undergoing nasa

BACKGROUND: Unilateral sinus disease (USD) occurs in 23 % of all cases. It is believed that it is mainly associated with cancer development. Retrospective data from large rhinological centers show that the most common USD is chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), followed by mycosis, inverted papilloma and finally cancer, but only in a small percent of cases.
THE AIM OF THE STUDY: The analysis of USD in the group of patients who underwent FESS at the secondary referral center.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: The retrospective study of patients treated for USD in the Department of Otolaryngology in the Provincia

INTRODUCTION: Inverted papilloma is a locally-aggressive benign neoplasm of the paranasal sinuses with a high potential for recurrence and malignancy. Intracranial extension is infrequent, and dural penetration even more so, typically associated with recurrence of the disease or its degeneration into squamous cell carcinoma.
CLINICAL CASE: A 32-year-old female patient consulted us for an exophytic lesion in her right nostril and exophthalmos, associated with headache, anosmia and dysgeusia. Craniofacial and brain CT and brain MRI demonstrated a lesion in the right nostril, extending into the

The aim of this study was to describe the endoscopic medial maxillectomy technique with preservation of the inferior turbinate in patients affected by maxillary sinonasal inverted papilloma. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical charts and surgical technique in six patients with paranasal sinus inverted papilloma. There were five males and one female, whose mean age at diagnosis was 60 years ranging between 57 and 65 years. No recurrences were diagnosed, and no nasal crusting was evidenced postoperatively. Nasal breathing was satisfying in all cases. Postoperative epistaxis was not observed

INTRODUCTION: Sinonasal papilloma is the most common benign tumor of the nasal cavity, with the inverted subtype being the most frequent. Its etiology remains highly controversial, but Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is believed to be associated with its pathogenesis. In addition to being locally aggressive, this tumor is characterized by high recurrence rates and malignant transformation potential.
OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with sinonasal papilloma who underwent surgery at a University Hospital.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was perf

Most papillary transitional cell carcinomas (TCC) are characterized architecturally by an exophytic growth of fingerlike papillae, but some exhibit a prominent endophytic growth pattern resulting in considerable difficulty in assessing invasion. We report on 18 cases of TCC (17 urinary bladder, one pelvicalyceal system) in which endophytic growth was evident either as interanastomosing cords and columns of urothelium, often with a striking resemblance to inverted papilloma (inverted papilloma-like pattern), or as broad, pushing bulbous invaginations into the lamina propria (broad-front pattern

Background/Objectives: Periostin's role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases, particularly in the nose and paranasal sinuses, is an area of growing interest. This study aims to evaluate the expression of periostin in mucoceles, inverted papillomas, choanopolyps and retention cysts. Methods: Tissue samples collected during functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) were analyzed for POSTN gene mRNA expression using qPCR. Periostin protein levels were measured via ELISA and Western Blot. Serum periostin levels were also assessed through ELISA in both patients (n = 54) and controls (n = 1

An inverted urothelial tumor (transitional cell carcinoma, inverted type, grade 1), consisting of a large (3.5 x 1.2 x 1.2 cm) tumor with stalk (0.3 cm in diameter) and surrounding broad base polypoid foci (0.5 x 0.6 x 0.5 cm altogether), was found in the lower segment of the left ureter of a 59-year-old man. He has taken oral anticancer drugs and kanpo medicine as a follow-up for 61 months, and is now free of disease. Differential diagnosis, inverted urothelial papilloma and carcinoma, and adequate treatment are discussed.

Oncocytic Schneiderian papilloma (OSP) is one of the three morphologically distinct tumors that arise from Schneiderian membrane (the others include exophytic papilloma and inverted papilloma). OSP almost always occurs unilaterally in the paranasal sinuses, usually in the maxillary sinus, ethmoid cells or sphenoid sinus. We report a case of a 64-year-old woman with OSP arising from the left frontal sinus. In the report herein, we describe an OSP originating in the region of frontal sinus, which, to the best of our knowledge, represents the first documented example in English literature of OSP

Although dysphagia and lump sensation in the throat caused by intranasal benign tumors with oropharyngeal extension is a rare condition, we suggest that clinicians should thoroughly examine the presence of nasal pathologies using various endoscopes for the differential diagnosis.

We present a case of inverted urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. A 60-year-old male was referred to our hospital for bilateral ureteral stones. When transurethral ureterolithotripsy was performed to treat these stones, a tumor at the trigone of bladder was incidentally diagnosed. This tumor was pedunculated and its surface was not uniformly round. After the operation, this tumor was diagnosed as inverted urothelial carcinoma through the histopathologic examination. The patient was subsequently followed up for 6 months and there was no evidence of recurrence. Although this is a rare case, it

The evolution of endoscopic sinus surgery has led to a paradigm shift in the management of sinonasal and anterior skull base tumors in the past decade. Endoscopic resection is considered by many institutions to be the gold standard approach even for extensive pathology. Endoscopic tumor surgery should not imply less surgery but rather an alternative to external operations providing the same access and enabling equivalent or superior visualization for resection of tumors. It also avoids much of the potentially significant morbidity associated with external operations. Successful endoscopic tumo

In this article, we presented a 54-year-old male who was admitted with complaints of nasal obstruction with snoring and mouth breathing for one year. Anterior rhinoscopy revealed a mass arising from the inferior nasal concha on the left side. After computed tomography evaluation, endoscopic examination and incisional biopsy, the mass was removed en bloc endoscopically. The histopathological analysis resulted in a diagnosis of a fungiform papilloma. Fungiform papillomas arise almost exclusively on the nasal septum, while inverted papillomas predominantly affect the lateral nasal wall. To our kn
