The Development of the Dance Smart Intervention: A Céilí Dance Exercise Intervention for People Living With Dementia and Their Care Partners (Dance Smart Intervention).

Dance is a form of exercise that engages motor, cognitive, social, and emotional skills (Charras et al., 2020). Céilí dance is a traditional Irish social dance offering physical and psychological health benefits, with the added benefit of a social element. People living with dementia and care partners have low levels of physical activity (PA) despite understanding the range of benefits (van Alphen et al., 2016). This study aimed to develop a person-centred dance - based exercise intervention for people living with dementia and care partners. The Medical Research Council Framework (MRCF) and be

Evaluating the psychometric properties of the 24-item and 12-item real relationship inventory-client forms.

The current study assessed the psychometric properties of the long (24 items) and brief (12 items) versions of the Real Relationship Inventory-Client (RRI-C) in a United States sample. The RRI-C is the most used quantitative measure of the real relationship construct, yet its psychometric properties have not been explored outside its development studies. A sample of 700 adults in individual psychotherapy was recruited in the study and filled out a comprehensive battery of measures. Analytical techniques included confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM

Reflection for Employability in First Opinion Veterinary Practice.

Students and practising vets are required to reflect as part of professional development. This qualitative study explored what prompts reflection and how reflection developed employability skills. Employability incorporates technical competencies and career satisfaction, an important issue relating to career longevity and retention in the profession. This study could inform teaching and assessment on reflection and employability attainment in undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. Semi-structured interview data were analysed via thematic analysis. The epistemological approach was constructi

German language adaptation of the Cogniphobia Scale for Headache Disorders (CS-HD) and development of a new short form (CS-HD-6).

OBJECTIVE: This study is part of the ODIN-migraine (Optimization of Diagnostic Instruments in migraine) project. It is a secondary, a priori analysis of previously collected data, and aimed to assess the psychometric properties and factor structure of the Cogniphobia Scale for Headache Disorders (CS-HD). We aimed to construct a German-language version and a short version. BACKGROUND: Cogniphobia is the fear and avoidance of cognitive exertion, which the patient believes triggers or exacerbates headache. High cogniphobia may worsen the course of a headache disorder. METHODS: The 15-item CS-HD

Impact of Online Information on Self-Isolation Intention During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: During the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, governments issued movement restrictions and placed areas into quarantine to combat the spread of the disease. In addition, individuals were encouraged to adopt personal health measures such as social isolation. Information regarding the disease and recommended avoidance measures were distributed through a variety of channels including social media, news websites, and emails. Previous research suggests that the vast amount of available information can be confusing, potentially resulting in overconcern and information overload. OB

Synthetic gatekeeping in health chatbots: configured answer systems as the unit of AI evaluation and governance for medical information.

Two health chatbots can give the same clinically appropriate advice and still constitute different interventions: one stops at a clinician referral, the other places an affiliated booking one click away. In this Hypothesis and Theory article we argue that the appropriate unit of health-AI evaluation is therefore not the model output alone, but the configured answer system - the large language model (LLM) together with source selection, retrieval, interface, action routing and downstream data return. We call this organizationally configured mode of mediation synthetic gatekeeping. Its necessary

Development and Initial Validation of the Multidimensional Psychosocial Work Environment Scale for Employed Persons (MPWES).

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial well-being at work is a multidimensional construct associated with employee health, organizational functioning, sustainable workforce development, and population mental health. However, few theoretically integrated instruments simultaneously assess work-related resources, job demands, psychosocial risks, and employee subjective well-being. This study aimed to develop and conduct the initial validation of the Multidimensional Psychosocial Work Environment Scale for Employed Persons (MPWES), grounded in the OECD well-being framework, the WHO-5 conceptual approach, and th

Social norms and the decline in US cigarette smoking: evidence from 30 years of US representative surveys.

INTRODUCTION: Changing social norms on cigarette smoking are proposed as a primary strategy to reduce smoking behaviour. METHODS: Using core questions in 30 years of tobacco use supplements (TUS) to the Current Population Survey (CPS), we develop a state-specific, injunctive social norm scale of Willingness to Restrict Smoking (WTRS) and test its association with smoking behaviours. Respondents (n=1 462 050) to US national and state representative TUS-CPS conducted at nine regular intervals from 1992 to 2022. RESULTS: Respondents were queried on their WTRS in 10 different settings, which var

Self-criticism is a real-time predictor of non-suicidal self-injury and disordered eating: An ecological momentary assessment study among treatment-seeking individuals.

BACKGROUND: Although theory and research implicate self-criticism as a risk factor for non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), the nature of this association in daily life remains unclear. This study used ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to address whether (1) trait and state self-criticism elevate the risk of NSSI, (2) state self-criticism predicts NSSI behavior in real-time via increased NSSI urge intensity, and (3) the risk pattern extends to disordered eating (DE; binge eating, purging, restrictive eating). METHODS: A total of 125 treatment-seeking individuals who self-injure (87.20% female

Chronic Pain as a Hypothetical Construct: A Practical and Philosophical Consideration.

Pain has been defined by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage." Chronic pain is usually described as pain that has persisted for 3-6 months and/or beyond the expected time of healing. The numerical pain rating (NPR) is the customary metric and often considered as a proxy for the subjective experience of chronic pain. This definition of pain (chronic) has been of significant heuristic value. However, the definition and the models it has

Optimizing Navigation and Text Messaging Interventions to Promote Participation in a Food Is Medicine Program Among People Participating in Cardiac Rehabilitation: Human-Centered Design Study.

BACKGROUND: Food Is Medicine (FIM) programs integrate interventions such as medically tailored meals or produce prescriptions into clinical care. However, there is limited evidence on how to design these programs to be responsive to the lived experiences of participants to optimize initiation, engagement, and long-term retention. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to develop interventions to promote initiation, engagement, and retention in FIM programs that are responsive to the lived experiences of participants. METHODS: We used a human-centered design approach to engage current and

The course and remission of suicidality from ages 11 to 29: findings from a Dutch population-based longitudinal cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Suicide is a leading cause of death among adolescents and emerging adults. Suicidality is a multidimensional construct that includes suicidal ideation (SI), self-harm (SH), suicide attempts, and suicide completion, without a fixed or linear progression between these elements. We examined the course of suicidality (SI/SH) over adolescence and young adulthood (age 11-29) and correlates of natural remission and recovery over these 18 years, using the Dutch population-based longitudinal TRAcking Individuals Lives Survey (TRAILS). We examined whether perceived belongingness and social s

Viscoelastic properties of sodium hyaluronate and their mathematical optimization in intra-articular injections: a predictive model for enhancing clinical efficacy.

OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a biomechanical and mathematical model capable of predicting the clinical efficacy of intra-articular sodium hyaluronate injections (HA) in osteoarthritis (OA), by aligning viscoelastic properties of HA formulations with joint-specific mechanical demands and patient phenotypes. DESIGN: A predictive simulation model based on linear viscoelastic theory and non-Newtonian fluid mechanics was constructed to replicate intra-articular HA behavior during physiologic gait cycles. Input variables included HA-specific parameters (molecular weight, concentration, viscos

A multidimensional framework of healing among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) survivors of gender-based violence: Understanding components of recovery through identity-affirming strengths.

OBJECTIVE: Populations under the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) umbrella experience disproportionately high rates of gender-based violence, yet limited research has examined how survivors navigate healing. Guided by sexual and gender minority stress and resiliency theory and the Sexual and Gender Minority Health Disparities Research Framework, this study identified healing pathways among LGBTQ+ gender-based violence survivors, with intentional oversampling of gender-diverse individuals who remain understudied in trauma research. METHOD: Using purposive sampling, we co

Surveillance via wastewater monitoring and nasal self-collection of specimens (The SWANSS Study): a CFIR-informed qualitative study with key carceral and healthcare stakeholders.

BACKGROUND: Implementing public health interventions can be challenging in carceral settings. Jails are institutions with the shortest lengths of stay, resulting in frequent turnover and constantly shifting populations. Jails had particularly acute challenges during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic when incarcerated persons were highly susceptible to infection and severe disease. The purpose of this study was to identify barriers and facilitators to wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) and nasal self-testing (NST) as a combined strategy of COVID-19 surveillance in Fulton County Jail (F

Functional brain network analysis in patients with upper-limb spasticity after stroke.

INTRODUCTION: Stroke ranks as the second leading cause of death and disability worldwide, with the resulting upper-limb spasticity severely impairing patients' motor function and quality of life. However, existing clinical assessment scales exhibit a degree of subjectivity, and research into the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying spasticity remains insufficient. Brain network analysis offers a novel perspective for investigating the neural mechanisms associated with spasticity. METHODS: Eight patients with upper limb spasticity due to stroke (MAS grades 1-2) and eight healthy controls w

A Systematic Review on Sexual Boredom.

BACKGROUND: Empirical data on sexual boredom are scarce and unsystematized, contrasting with the literature on general boredom. AIM: The aim of this review of literature is to verify how sexual boredom is defined in previous research and which relationships were found with sexual functioning, relationship dynamics, or gender. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in EBSCO, Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases for papers published until August 2020. Search terms used were "sexual boredom" or "sexual tedium" or "sexual indifference" or "sexual monotony" or a combination of "boredo

Barriers to diabetic self-care: A qualitative study of patients' and healthcare providers' perspectives.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To explore patient and healthcare provider (HCP) perspectives about patients' barriers to the performance of diabetic self-care behaviours in Ghana. BACKGROUND: Sub-Saharan African urban populations are increasingly affected by type 2 diabetes due to nutrition transition, sedentary lifestyles and ageing. Diabetic self-care is critical to improving clinical outcomes. However, little is known about barriers to diabetic self-care (diet, exercise, medication taking, self-monitoring of blood glucose and foot care) in sub-Saharan Africa. DESIGN: Qualitative study that followed

The Cerebellar Predictions for Social Interactions: Theory of Mind Abilities in Patients With Degenerative Cerebellar Atrophy.

Recent studies have focused on the role of the cerebellum in the social domain, including in Theory of Mind (ToM). ToM, or the "mentalizing" process, is the ability to attribute mental states, such as emotion, intentions and beliefs, to others to explain and predict their behavior. It is a fundamental aspect of social cognition and crucial for social interactions, together with more automatic mechanisms, such as emotion contagion. Social cognition requires complex interactions between limbic, associative areas and subcortical structures, including the cerebellum. It has been hypothesized that
