We report female patient, age 51, with clinically definitive multiple sclerosis (CDMS) since 1998, who underwent two PTA procedures with stent implantation for CCSVI in 2010. Three hundred and ninety four consecutive out-patients with suspected deep venous thrombosis (DVT) were investigated with the 99mTc-plasmin test and physical examination and 307 of them with phlebography. Fresh thrombi were present in 124 patients and the plasmin test was pathological in 118 of these (sensitivity 95%). The thrombi that were missed were all located below the knee and measured less than 10 cm on the phlebographic films. From 1974 through 1984 six patients with axillary-subclavian venous thrombosis were studied and treated. This disorder represents 1% of the various types of venous thrombosis reported in the literature. Symptoms appeared following effort in four patients, while a cervical rib and a scar bridle after radical mastectomy were identified as the underlying cause in two patients. Two-hundred foot venograms were performed in patients suspected of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Eighty studies were positive for DVT in the calf, popliteal, superficial femoral, or common femoral veins. Of these, 16 (20%) had an associated venous thrombosis in the foot. One hundred and ten studies were negative. Of these, none had a positive foot venogram. It is therefore our feeling that an additional study of the foot need not be performed unless there are symptoms specifically referable to this area.
