Trauma is an increasing burden on resources both in terms of personnel, operating time and bed occupancy. We describe the introduction of a plastic surgery trauma clinic. This clinic was established in an effort to streamline the increasing number of trauma referrals. Under the previous system inappropriate admissions were occurring using up a valuable resource. This audit was performed to see if the "see and treat" plastic surgery trauma clinic has made an impact on the service offered and provided by our unit. Galactorrhoea is a complication rarely observed after mammary plastic surgery. Suicide by helium inhalation inside a plastic bag has recently been publicized by right-to-die proponents in "how to" print and videotape materials. This article reports a suicide performed according to this new and highly lethal technique, which is also a potentially undetectable cause of death. Toxicology information could not determine helium inhalation, and drug screening did not reveal data of significance. The cause of death could be determined only by the physical evidence at the scene of death. Helium inhalation can easily be concealed when interested parties remove or alter evidence.

This "filling-in" phenomenon reflects a process of cortical remapping, similar to the one that occurs in the presence of visual field defects. Filling-in is largely ignored by clinicians, despite its major implications in ophthalmologic practice, especially the nonrecognition of visual field deficits.

The article presents the authors' experiences with reconstructive-plastic operations of the esophagus in children. The esophagoplasty was performed in 60 patients with congenital and acquired diseases. The presence of calcified plaques is one of the few unequivocal indications for surgery of Peyronie's disease. The mean size of plaques described in the literature is 1.5-2 cm whereby it may vary from 1 mm all along the penis. The authors treated successfully an unusually large calcified plaque 7 x 0.8 cm with excellent postoperative results--restoration of the patient's full sexual activity which was not possible before operation.

Von Willebrand's disease (VWD) is the most commonly inherited coagulopathy. In a group of 1,000 plastic surgery patients, 8 or 9 individuals are affected by this disease, making basic knowledge of VWD and its management imperative.
