An objective method of assessing the healing potentials of skin ulcers would eliminate the long waiting period necessary for visual evidence of healing or nonhealing to appear. This would permit the continued conservative treatment for healing ulcers and prompt surgical interventions for those ulcers which are nonhealing. In this preliminary study, the cutaneous blood flow immediately around the ulcer site was studied using the photoplethysmograph. Vigorous cutaneous blood flow shown by good pulsatile wave forms on the photoplethysmograph is shown to be indicative of an ongoing healing process

Sixty-five patients with clinical evidence of carotid occlusive disease were evaluated by the Doppler ophthalamic test, ophthalmodynamography, and oculopneumoplethysmography prior to angiography. There were examined 120 patients, using the method of the integral rheography of the body (according to method of M. I. Tyshchenko), and than operated on for the acute cholecystitis. In 60 patients, constituting the main group, cholecystectomy using minimal approach (CHMA) was done and in 60 (control group)--open cholecystectomy (OCH) using wide laparotomy. After performance of OCH the significant reduction of volumetric indices of blood flow was established. The state of the gastric mucosa regional blood flow and microcirculation in 148 patients with duodenal ulcer disease, complicated by sub-compensated or decompensated stenosis of gastric outlet, was studied. The lowering of indexes in various parts of stomach, along curvature minor especially, was revealed. These date substantiate the necessity of application of the organ-preserving operation with the ulcer excision and the dilating pyloroduodenoplasty performance in late stage of stenosis. Chaos of the abdominal movement was examined in obstructive lung disease. Body inductive plethysmograph was used and the analog record was digitized at sampling interval of 100 ms. Correlation dimension was calculated according to the method of Grassberger-Procaccia. In chronic obstructive lung disease and chronic pulmonary emphysema (CPE), correlation dimension was positively correlated with respiratory frequency. The degrees of freedom were between 3-6. Prostatic rheography findings evidence for marked disturbances of venous outflow in patients with chronic prostatitis. To correct the hemodynamics, rectal magnitotherapy was used in two regimens: with constant frequency of the magnetic field (5000 Hz) and fluctuating magnetic field (1-20000 Hz). The comparison of the results gave priority to the latter regimen because it provided reduction of the treatment duration and normalization of rheographic parameters in 37 (90.2%) patients. The authors recommend rectal magnitotherapy for combined treatment of chronic prostatitis.
