Association between Weight Loss and Survival Outcomes in Patients with Esophageal Cancer: A Meta-Analysis.

Weight loss is a common symptom in patients with esophageal cancer and can negatively impact survival outcomes. This meta-analysis aimed to systematically evaluate the relationship between weight loss and survival outcomes in individuals diagnosed with esophageal cancer. We conducted a comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for studies reporting the association between weight loss and overall survival or progression-free survival in patients with esophageal cancer. Pooled adjusted hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using a random-effects mo…

Systematic review of purine analog treatment for chronic lymphocytic leukemia: lessons for future trials.

A systematic review of purine analogs revealed heterogeneity between trials in treatment effects on response and progression free survival, but not survival, perhaps partly due to variations in analytical methods. In addition, combination treatments required evaluation. Therefore, individual patient data were sought for all randomized trials in untreated chronic lymphocytic leukemia which involved a purine analog, but which did not include antibody therapies. Sixteen trials were found, addressing seven comparisons. Eight trials, with 2,753 patients, showed that single agent purine analog impro

Should organs at risk (OARs) be prioritized over target volume coverage in stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) for oligometastases? a secondary analysis of the population-based phase II SABR-5 trial.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) for oligometastases may improve survival, however concerns about safety remain. To mitigate risk of toxicity, target coverage was sacrificed to prioritize organs-at-risk (OARs) during SABR planning in the population-based SABR-5 trial. This study evaluated the effect of this practice on dosimetry, local recurrence (LR), and progression-free survival (PFS). METHODS: This single-arm phase II trial included patients with up to 5 oligometastases between November 2016 and July 2020. Theprotocol-specified planning objective was to co…

Viral infection and glioma: a meta-analysis of prognosis.

BACKGROUND: Glioma is the most common primary brain tumor, occurring due to the carcinogenesis of glial cells in the brain and spinal cord. Many aspects of the mechanism of its tumorigenesis remain unknown. The relationship between viral infection and glioma is one of the most important research aspects in this field. Currently, there is a lack of systematic reviews and meta-analyses to evaluate the effect of viral infection on the prognosis of glioma patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between viral infection and the prognosis of glioma patients, aimed at eval
