The use of porous coated cementless prosthesis, shows a worldwide spread in consequence of the advantages given by the "live" connection between the implant and the bone. Based on 40 implantations of prostheses of this type (Duraloc 1200 acetabulum, AML shaft) authors report on the technique of the implantation and the primary stability reached. In consequence of the formation, the variety of size and the properly usable instruments for implantation, the prostheses could be used for every kind of deformed, dysplastic hips and good primary stability was reached in every case operated.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the practices employed by oculoplastic surgeons in the assessment and management of anophthalmic sockets and external ocular prostheses.
METHODS: Oculoplastic surgeons from two countries, who specialized in the management of anophthalmic sockets, participated in a web-based survey. Radial head prosthetic replacement is indicated in case of comminuted fracture not amenable to internal fixation, especially when the radial head fracture is part of a pattern of lesions configuring a complex instability of the elbow. Thirty-one SBi radial head prostheses were implanted in 30 patients (one bilateral simultaneous fracture) over a 2 years period. In 10 patients, the mean time from trauma to surgical treatment was 2.4 days, while the remaining 20 patients were treated as "second opinion" cases presenting with elbow stiffness or instability after an average of 19 days from trauma.

In a post-mortem study, we compared subjects with metal implants with and without visible wear with an age-matched control group to determine the extent and effects of dissemination of wear debris. In subjects with stainless-steel and cobalt-chrome prostheses metal was found in local and distant lymph nodes, bone marrow, liver and spleen. The levels were highest in subjects with loose, worn joint prostheses and the main source of the debris was the matt coating. Metal levels were also raised in subjects with implants without visible wear and, to a less extent, in those with dynamic hip screws.

An ongoing study was made of 804 primary Stanmore total hip prostheses implanted in 839 patients between 1973 and 1991. The earliest surviving implants were brought back for radiologic and clinical review in 1995 at an average of 17 years after surgery. BACKGROUND: Bone-saving hip arthroplasty techniques, which facilitate revision, are gaining importance as the number of hip replacements in younger patients increases.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: 123 CUT femoral neck prostheses (ESKA Implants, Lübeck, Germany) were implanted in 113 patients (average age 53 years) between 1999 and 2002. After a mean follow-up of 5 (3-7) years, we determined the state of 120 prostheses; 3 patients could not be located. 97 patients with 107 prostheses, none of which had been revised, were evaluated clinically and radiographically.

Mandibular flexure is a phenomenon generated by the action of the muscles of mastication and other muscles in the head and neck region which can lead to prosthetic and biological complications such as pain, material fracture, and bone loss around dental implants. To avoid such complications, dividing the mandibular prostheses into 3 short-span prostheses or sectioning at the midline has been suggested. This clinical report presents the management of an edentulous patient with clinically detectable mandibular flexure treated with a 1-piece metal-free complete arch implant-supported prosthesis.
