Pointing and the interference effect in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The interference effect in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) was investigated in order to analyze cognitive aspects of motor stereotypy in OCD-related compulsions. So far, the domain of cognitive control in compulsive behavior has been under-investigated. Twelve participants (OCD patients and healthy controls) completed a newly created computer-based pointing task as well as standard clinical and psychological background measures. Findings showed that the patients displayed a larger visual interference effect compared to the controls and pointing paths were longer in time as well as distance

Adolescent social rejection alters pain processing in a CB1 receptor dependent manner.

Experiences of social rejection represent a major source of distress and in particular peer rejection during adolescence has been implicated in various psychiatric disorders. Moreover, experimentally induced acute social rejection alters pain perception in humans, implicating overlapping neurocircuits for social and physical pains. We recently demonstrated that rearing of adolescent Wistar rats with inadequate, less playful play partners (Fischer 344) persistently decreases pain sensitivity, although the detailed mechanisms mediating the aversiveness during the social encounter remained unsett

Being a bridge: Swedish antenatal care midwives' encounters with Somali-born women and questions of violence; a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Violence against women is associated with serious health problems, including adverse maternal and child health. Antenatal care (ANC) midwives are increasingly expected to implement the routine of identifying exposure to violence. An increase of Somali born refugee women in Sweden, their reported adverse childbearing health and possible links to violence pose a challenge to the Swedish maternity health care system. Thus, the aim was to explore ways ANC midwives in Sweden work with Somali born women and the questions of exposure to violence. METHODS: Qualitative individual interview

Social rejection following neonatal inflammation is mediated by olfactory scent cues.

Early-life exposure to inflammation has been associated with several behavioral and cognitive deficits detected in adulthood. However, early behavioral changes have not been well described in rodent models of infection, specifically with respect to social behavior. In the present work we show that lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge at 3 and 5days of age reduced overall social contact time in male juvenile rats, primarily mediated by the amount of contact they received from a novel conspecific. Given that there are important sensory, motor, and motivational components that underlie social inter

Modes of Dating Violence in Young Adults Within Pakistani Culture: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis.

In the Pakistani cultural context, dating violence is a pervasive issue that poses significant risks to mental health. This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences and expressions of young adults who have faced dating violence, with a focus on informing counseling and early intervention. Through interpretative phenomenological analysis of semistructured interviews with 10 young adults (5 men and 5 women) aged 18-25 years, we identified superordinate themes of psychological, emotional, and physical modes of dating violence. Subordinate themes revealed a range of controlling and manip

[Psychopathological consequences of confinement].

The psychological effects of isolation have already been described in the literature (polar expeditions, submarines, prison). Nevertheless, the scale of confinement implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented. In addition to reviewing the published studies, we need to anticipate the psychological problems that could arise during or at a distance from confinement. We have gone beyond the COVID-19 literature in order to examine the implications of the known consequences of confinement, like boredom, social isolation, stress, or sleep deprivation. Anxiety, post-traumatic stress diso

[Compensation for presbyopia using contact lenses].

Contact lens fitting for presbyotic patients needs more than simple fitting shill; patients need additional psychological support. The wearer has to accept optical quality reduction due to the multifocality of the lens design. In general, the technical fitting of presbyotic contact lenses is comparable to monofocal systems. They work with the same rules of performance. The difference lies in the principles of correction by the lens itself. Simple presbyotic systems use uncorrected optical aberration to widen depth perception. These lenses are suitable for young presbyopes, up to a need of 1 di

Patient Participation in Moral Case Deliberation: Evaluating the Dynamics of Shared Reflection in a Mental Healthcare Setting in Türkiye.

Clinical ethics support services (CESS) have traditionally centered on healthcare professionals (HCPs), leaving the patient participation (PP) as a subject of controversy. This paper evaluates the practical and dialogical dynamics of a patient-participatory moral case deliberation (MCD). We analyze a MCD session conducted in a Turkish psychiatric hospital using the Dilemma Method. The group-comprising the facilitator, the case presenter (a senior psychiatrist), seven mental health professionals including a nurse and a clinical psychologist, and the patient herself-deliberated on a complex mora

Physical, psychological, and cognitive function and quality of life in survivors of severe critical illness.

Survivors of critical illness frequently experience persistent physical, psychological, and cognitive impairments after intensive care unit (ICU) discharge, which may contribute to reduced quality of life. Previous studies have described these outcomes in heterogeneous ICU populations with variable illness severity and using non-uniform assessment approaches. We conducted a standardized, multimodal assessment with validated scales in a cohort of severely ill ICU patients. This prospective, single-centre observational study included 100 adults (median age 63 years; 69% male) who required invasi

Facilitators and Barriers for Participation in Physical Activity Among Norwegian Physically Active First-Year Students: A Qualitative Study.

Regular physical activity is essential for physical and mental health, yet participation among Norwegian university students remains below nationally recommended levels. This study explored facilitators and barriers for physical activity among first-year students, using the COM-B model as a conceptual framework. Fifteen physically active first-year students from two higher education campuses in Bodø were interviewed in spring 2025, and the data were analysed using inductive thematic analysis. Analysis showed that students' activity behaviours were shaped by a dynamic interaction between physic
