PURPOSE: In this study, we attempted to compare the efficacy and toxicity of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) with radiotherapy alone (RT … city (RR 2.25, 95% CI 1.54-3.29), radiation-induced oral mucositis (RR 1.64, 95% CI 1.14-2.35), and radiodermatitis (RR 1.80, 95% CI 1.13-2.88).
CONCLUSION: Compared with IMRT alone, CCRT provided survival benefit with acceptable toxicity in patients with LANPC. However, we need multicenter randomized controlled trials and long-term follow-up to evaluate the eve …

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and concurrent paclita … ths (95% CI: 9.9-26.1 months), respectively. Grade 3 neutropenia, radiation-induced esophagitis and radiodermatitis were observed in 5 (13.9%), 3 (8.3%) and 8 (22.2%) patients respectively. There were two treatment-related deaths due to esophageal perforation and hemorrhea.
CONCLUSIONS: For those patients with upper esophageal carcinoma, IMRT combined with concu …

The severity of radiodermatitis of the rats in the R+NAC and R+WR-2721 groups was significantly lower than in the R group (p<0.05). The protective effects of NAC and WR-2721 on irradiation-increased dermatitis were clinically and histopathologically similar (p>0.05).

Acute radiation dermatitis commonly occurs following local radiation therapy for various cancers and, when severe, may necessitate disruptio … ds and oral plus topical antibiotic therapy. We suggest that staphylococcal superinfection of acute radiodermatitis intensifies the inflammatory process and hinders repair of the epidermal barrier. Patients with acute radiation dermatitis should be investigated for secondary infection. We emphasize the importance of including topical and oral antibiotic therapy i …

Out of 3,000 consecutive basal cell carcinoma 81 (2.7%) were located on the scalp of 77 patients (41 males, 36 females). The age at diagnosis was 50.8 +/- 14 years. Seventy five patients had a single lesion, one had 2 and another 4. Significant etiological factors were organoid nevi (11), syringocystadenoma papilliferum (1), androgenic alopecia (5), wound scar (1) and radiodermatitis (1). Out of 29 patients who answered a specific enquiry 10 admitted to having been treated by X-ray epilation for tinea capitis in childhood and 4 to have taken arsenic containing medicines. The evolution of the t…

Radiation recall dermatitis (RRD) is an inflammatory skin reaction confined to areas previously exposed to radiation, triggered by subsequent systemic therapy. This case report describes a female patient with hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative breast cancer. She received 6 cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by mastectomy with immediate tissue expander implantation and axillary lymph node dissection. Adjuvant radiotherapy and intensive endocrine therapy (endocrine therapy and abemaciclib) were administered postoperatively. After radiotherapy,

Radiation dermatitis (RD) remains a prevalent and challenging adverse effect of radiotherapy in cancer patients, significantly impairing patient quality of life and potentially interrupting treatment regimens. In recent years, the development of biopolymer-based hydrogels has emerged as a promising strategy for preventing and managing RD. Among these, alginate and chitosan-based hydrogels have attracted considerable attention due to their excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, and wound-healing properties. This comprehensive review highlights the therapeutic efficacy of alginate/chitosa

Radiation-induced skin injury (RISI) is a prevalent complication following nuclear accidents and radiotherapy for tumors. The associated side effects may include erythema, desquamation, ulceration, and in severe cases, necrosis of certain skin tissues. These adverse reactions significantly impact the quality of life for patients and contribute to both psychological distress and economic burdens. However, there is currently no standardized protocol for the treatment and management of RISI. In comparison to traditional pharmaceuticals, the utilization of biomaterials in addressing radiation-indu

INTRODUCTION: The standard toxicity tools adopted for assessing Radiation Induced Skin Reactions (RISR) do not currently reflect how skin changes occur across all skin tones. A one size fits all approach is adopted currently for RISR assessment. The aim of this study was to understand what evidence-based practice and RISR tools are being used across the therapeutic radiography workforce and the levels of confidence in using these tools.
METHODS: A survey using Likert scales to assess confidence in RISR assessment and management was made available to 77 departments in the UK between August-Nov

PURPOSE: Radiation-induced skin reactions remain one of the most frequent side effects of adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer, which is the most common global malignancy. In individual cases, we observed a decrease in radiation dermatitis under film dressings used for skin marking purposes. Therefore, we decided to revise the available evidence regarding the prophylactic use of film dressings to reduce radiation dermatitis in breast cancer patients.
METHODS: On 20 March 2023, we conducted a systematic review of literature for randomized controlled trials published in the English, German,

PURPOSE: Radiation dermatitis is one of the most common acute toxicities induced by chemoradiation therapy (CRT) for head and neck cancer (HNC). The benefit of topical steroids in the management of radiation dermatitis is still unclear. This phase 3, multi-institutional, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of topical steroids for radiation dermatitis in patients with locally advanced HNC receiving CRT.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: Eligible patients were scheduled to receive bilateral neck irradiation (≥66 Gy) with concurrent cisplatin (≥200 mg/m2) as

Although significant advancements in computer-aided diagnostics using artificial intelligence (AI) have been made, to date, no viable method for radiation-induced skin reaction (RISR) analysis and classification is available. The objective of this single-center study was to develop machine learning and deep learning approaches using deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for automatic classification of RISRs according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) grading system. A 62-year-old man with a history of 2 previous cardiac catheterizations presented with an itchy, nontender skin lesion over his right scapula. The skin lesion had been present for >5 years. Review of the medical records found evidence of a prolonged and complicated cardiac catheterization 8 years previously. Physical examination revealed an 8 × 6 cm, well-demarcated, erythematous reticulated atrophic plaque with telangiectasias and ulceration. Biopsy confirmed histologic changes consistent with radiation dermatitis. In conclusion, the characteristic histologic findings of radiation dermatitis,

BACKGROUND: In many clinical settings, the irradiated patient feels additional discomfort by the inhibition of washing the treatment portals and interruption of his adapted skin care habits.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: An analysis of the scientific recommendations as well as an analysis of the skin dose to the irradiated portals has been performed. An individual scheme for skin care under radiation has been developed.
RESULTS: A substantial decrease of the skin dose is achieved in many modern radiation techniques. The consequent reduction of severe skin reactions allowed the use of water and mild
