[Characteristics of the combined action of fentanyl and sodium oxybutyrate on respiration].

Experiments conducted with rabbits (86) and albino rats (28) demonstrated that with the use of sodium oxybutyrate (200 mg/kg) in combination with phentanyl (0,02 mg/kg) the former reduces the depressing influence of the latter on the external respiration and tissue processes.

Toxic trace elements: preferential concentration in respirable particles.

The toxic trace elements arsenic, antimony, cadmium, lead, selenium, and thallium were found to be most concentrated in the smallest respirable particles emitted from coal-fired power plants. These elements, or their compounds, are probably volatilized during combustion and preferentially adsorb or condense onto the small particles which can most easily pass through conventional control equipment.

Multiple-oxygen isotope constraints on aerobic respiration and gross primary productivity.

Primary production on land and in the surface ocean is a critical component of Earth's carbon and oxygen cycles, controlling the uptake of CO2 and the release of O2 to the atmosphere. Quantitative estimates of these O2 and CO2 fluxes remain challenging. Of the methods used, the triple-oxygen-isotope analysis of O2 is considered to provide the most robust in situ estimate of gross productivity. However, this method relies on one key assumption-that the oxygen isotope fractionation of aerobic respiration is constant-and recent experimental studies have shown that it can vary significantly. When …

SLC6A6 deficiency inhibits angiogenesis by impairing mitochondrial respiration and inducing ferroptosis.

Targeting endothelial angiogenesis holds significant promise in the treatment of hypoxic/ischemic diseases and tumors. Previous studies showed that solute carrier family 6 member 6 (SLC6A6) plays critical roles in promoting cancer cell survival and proliferation. However, the role of SLC6A6 in regulating endothelial angiogenesis remains unexplored. Using gain- and loss-of-function strategies, we demonstrated that SLC6A6 deficiency inhibited angiogenesis, whereas overexpression of SLC6A6 promoted it. By analyzing data derived from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, we identified that high

Avian lung single-cell atlas elucidates evolutionary divergence in endothermic respiration.

The evolution of distinct lung architectures in birds (tubular air capillaries) and mammals (alveoli) represents a classic example of convergent evolution, yet their cellular differences remain poorly characterized. We present the comparative single-cell atlas of avian and mammalian lungs, revealing four key findings. First, we discover a persistent hybrid cell population (AT1/AT2) in neonatal and adult birds that disappears postnatally in mice, uncovering distinct strategies for lung maintenance. Second, cross-species comparisons highlight striking divergence in alveolar cell types, reflectin
