A paraganglioma is a neuroendocrine tumor that may secrete catecholamines and present with symptoms of sympathetic overload such as hypertension and diaphoresis. It is important that paragangliomas are identified, as they must often be treated by surgical excision. OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical characteristics of IgG4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) in China.
METHODS: From December 2010 to September 2013, a total of 107 IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) patients were reviewed prospectively. Their clinical, laboratory and histopathological features were summarized. And the treatment responses were analyzed.

We analysed the infrarenal aortic morphology by abdominal MR-examinations of 47 RPF patients compared to a control group. A significant larger aortic calibre and higher rates of infrarenal dilatation in male RPF patients were observed. The larger aortic diameter in male RPF patients may be due to periaortic inflammation with resulting aortic ectasia and supports the classification of RPF into the spectrum of chronic periaortitis.

BACKGROUND: Retroperitoneal fibrosis or Ormond's disease is an uncommon process characterized by fibrous tissue proliferation in the retroperitoneum, usually involving the aorta, inferior vena cava and iliac vessels. Obstructive hydronephrosis is often observed due to ureteral entrapment. This report presents a case of the peripancreatic location of the disease. We report a 59-year-old man presenting with retroperitoneal fibrosis (RF) associated with IgG lambda multiple myeloma. Recent clinical and immunohistochemical findings suggest that RF might be a particular expression of plasma cell/lymphoid dyscrasia, and that this association is not merely fortuitous. We review the pathophysiological evidence supporting this hypothesis.

Retroperitoneal fibrosis is an inflammatory disease, which is either idiopathic or secondary to infection, neoplasm, hemorrhage, aortic aneurysm or drugs. This is a rare disease usually presenting constitutional symptoms, abdominal, back or flank pain and urinary frequency. Treatment includes surgical relief of urethral obstruction and corticosteroids. Renal failure in retroperitoneal fibrosis is usually secondary to ureteric obstruction. We report a patient whose renal failure did not improve following relief of obstruction. Renal biopsy showed an interstitial nephritis, and function improved with steroid therapy. We suggest that renal biopsy should be considered in cases of renal failure associated with retroperitoneal fibrosis that do not respond to the relief of ureteric obstruction.

Review of 12 patients with diagnosis of idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRF). To establish diagnosis, computerized axial tomography (CT) was used in all cases.
