A Case of Follicular Lymphoma Mimicking Idiopathic Retroperitoneal Fibrosis.

Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RF) is a rare disease, which can be primary (idiopathic) or secondary. We present the case of a 56-year-old patient with symptomatic RF, in whom, after ineffective treatment with glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for one year and a progressive clinical course, a follicular lymphoma in the retroperitoneal space and several lymphoma nodes was identified. We also include a literature review on differential diagnosis through image inspection and case reports of lymphoma mimicking RF.

Retroperitoneal teratoma presenting as an abdominal-pelvic mass.

Nonovarian teratomas are relatively common neoplasms in children, but are rarely seen in adults. A case of a large retroperitoneal teratoma in a 42-year-old woman is presented. The 21.5-kg tumor originated in the retroperitoneal space inferior to the origin of the superior mesenteric artery, and displaced the contents of the entire abdominal cavity. The duodenum, pancreas, and transverse colon mesentery were incorporated into the tumor's pseudocapsule. Evaluation and operative management are described. Diagnosis and pathogenesis of nonovarian teratomas are reviewed.

Combining Retroperitoneal Laparoscopic Ureterolithotomy and Flexible Ureteroscopy for Effective Removal of a Large Ureteral Stone: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Large ureteral stones (LUSs) pose significant health risks, including chronic obstruction and renal impairment. Timely intervention is critical to preserve kidney function. While the optimal treatment for LUS is debated, retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy (RLU) is often preferred over percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), ureteroscopy, or extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy due to its effectiveness. Combining RLU with antegrade flexible ureteroscopy (aFURS) can enhance stone clearance rates, addressing the challenges of intrarenal access and guidewire passage. CASE REPORT

An alternative option of the retroperitoneal laparoscopic approach for limited hepatectomy for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma at the transected edge after previous hepatectomy.

Laparoscopic hepatectomy is safely performed with minimal invasiveness on patients with recurrent liver tumors after previous hepatectomy. H … rcinoma (HCC) by avoiding severe intra-abdominal adhesion. We safely resected recurrent HCC via the retroperitoneal space. This approach is a useful and alternative option for laparoscopy which minimizes the dissecting time and avoids organ injury on the right side of the transected area of the liver after hepatectomy in patients with liver malignancies.

Acute pancreatitis presenting as acute scrotum.

Acute pancreatitis can lead to pancreatic and peripancreatic collections that can spread in the retroperitoneum to varying extents based on the severity of the pancreatitis. We present here an unusual case of pancreatitis where the patient presented with an acute scrotum as a result of extension of peripancreatic inflammation to the scrotum.

Recovery of bowel function after transperitoneal or retroperitoneal laparoscopic pyeloplasty. A multi-center study.

AIM: To document the recovery of bowel function (BF) in children after transperitoneal (TP) or retroperitoneal (RP) laparoscopic pyeloplasty. METHODS: Data were obtained retrospectively from four centers between 2008 and 2019 for TP (n = 51) and RP (n = 58). Each surgeon chose which technique to perform. RESULTS: Subject demographics were not significantly different. Differences in operative times were not significant (RP: 241 min versus TP: 225 min). Mean duration/requirement for postoperative epidural/intravenous analgesia were not significantly different (TP: 1.4 days versus RP: 1.3 days)

[Pleomorphic liposarcoma arising in an unusual site. A case report].

Liposarcomas are the most common group of malignant mesenchymal neoplasms. They usually occur in the extremities and the retroperitoneum and only rarely in the intestine. We report the case of a 75-year-old man presenting with severe anaemia. A CAT scan revealed a 5cm thickening of the jejunal loop, arousing the suspicion of a neoplasm. A partial resection of the small intestine was performed. Macroscopy showed a 12×6cm ulcerated, polypoid mass. Microscopically, a well circumscribed, ulcerated tumour was seen, which had well-defined margins with the surrounding normal mucosa. It consisted of p

Zoning inside the renal fascia: The anatomical relationship between the urinary system and perirenal fat.

OBJECTIVES: To examine the anatomical relationship between the urinary system and perirenal fat, and to clarify the zoning inside the renal fascia. METHODS: Using computed tomography images from 50 men, we examined perinephric veins to reveal vessel communication in perirenal fat. Nine cadavers were dissected to investigate connective tissue continuity and vessel communication inside the renal fascia. Eight retroperitoneal specimens were macroscopically observed: four from the anterior and four from the posterior aspects. One specimen was used to obtain retroperitoneal transverse sections to

[A case of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst treated by laparoscopic surgery].

A 51-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of continuing back pain for 2 weeks. Computed tomography revealed a mass 30x40 mm in diameter adjacent to the left adrenal gland. We performed laparoscopic surgery in order to relieve the symptoms and make a diagnosis. Because there was adhesion between the mass and gastric wall, the mass was resected together with the gastric wall. Histopathological findings revealed the cyst with ciliated columunar epithelium and the final diagnosis was retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst. There was no evidence of malignancy and the back pain disappeared

[One case of retroperitoneal parasitic fetus and literature review].

Clinical features of 1 case of retroperitoneal parasitic fetus (PF) were retrospectively analyzed and Chinese literatures were reviewed. PF in China has 4 clinical features: 1) The incidence was extremely low and it was more common in infants and children. 2) The parasitic parts showed centrality. 3) The retroperitoneum and abdominal cavity were the most common parasite locations. 4) There was no gender difference in the incidence. Retroperitoneal PF should be distinguished from various benign and malignant abdominal tumors. Imaging was the optimal option for PF diagnosis and the axis bone sys

The 'sentinel clot' sign in spontaneous retropharyngeal hematoma secondary to parathyroid apoplexy.

Spontaneous retropharyngeal hemorrhage from a cervical parathyroid adenoma is a rare complication of primary hyperparathyroidism. Because of its rarity, it has seldom been documented in the radiologic or ENT literature. Patients may present with a variety of manifestations, ranging from dysphagia to dysphonia to life-threatening dyspnea or hemorrhage. Awareness of a possible thyroid or parathyroid etiology may expedite treatment and prevent unnecessary interventions. We present a case of spontaneous retropharyngeal hemorrhage in which the "sentinel clot" sign enabled us to identify the lesion

Retroperitoneal perirenal pseudocyst in a Massese breed ram.

The macroscopic and microscopic features of a retroperitoneal perirenal pseudocyst in a 12-month-old ram without impairment of renal function are described. In humans and animals, uriniferous pseudocysts may be of traumatic origin, resulting from rupture of kidney, renal pelvis, or ureter, or congenital. Lymphatic pseudocysts may develop secondary to inflammatory obstruction of the hilar lymphatics after perinephritis or renal transplantation. In this case, histologic characteristics of the pseudocyst wall were suggestive of development from the parietal peritoneal layer encapsulating the kidn

[Giant retroperitoneal cystic mass: appendiceal mucocele].

Appendiceal mucocele is a term used to describe the dilatation of the vermiform appendix produced by an intraluminal accumulation of mucus. Four pathological processes have been described that may lead to an appendiceal mucocele: obturation of cecoappendiceal communication, mucosal hyperplasia, mucinous cystadenoma and mucinous cystoadenocarcinoma. The most frequent is mucinous cystadenoma, seen in 50% of appendiceal mucoceles. 6% of patients with appendiceal mucocele develop peritoneal pseudomixoma, possibly through dissemination of the epithelial cells into the abdominal cavity. Preoperative

Endoscopically aided retroperitoneal placement of a lumboperitoneal shunt. Technical note.

The authors developed a method for retroperitoneal placement of a lumboperitoneal (LP) shunt with the aid of endoscopic monitoring. To perform this procedure, the patient is positioned laterally, the retroperitoneum is entered and dilated with a balloon through a small incision in the flank, and the space is maintained with CO2 insufflation. A peritoneal catheter is introduced into the cavity from the lumbar incision, through which the spinal catheter has been inserted. With the aid of a percutaneous nephroscope inserted in the cavity, the peritoneum is opened with endoscopically guided forcep

Retroperitoneal foregut cyst.

A foregut cyst is formed as a result of abnormal budding and pinching of the tracheobronchial tree when bronchial buds develop to form the primitive respiratory tree. Foregut cysts are clinically classified as bronchogenic, esophageal, enterogastric, or ciliated hepatic. We present a foregut cyst that occurred in the retroperitoneum and was difficult to distinguish from other retroperitoneal cystic mass lesions. Magnetic resonance imaging was useful in revealing the cyst's continuity to adjacent organs.
