Is secondary robotic pyeloplasty safe and effective as primary robotic pyeloplasty? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Robot-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (RLP) has excellent surgical safety and efficacy in primary pyeloplasty. In recent, the application of robotics has explored to more complex surgical conditions such as failed pyeloplasty. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the surgical and clinical outcomes of secondary RLP compared with primary RLP. Following PRISMA guidelines, we carried out an extensive literature search in the PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Google Scholar to extract the published articles comparing primary vs. secondary RLP up to April 2019. Robotic harvesting of the omental flap: a case report and mini-review of the use of robots in reconstructive surgery.

This study describes the robotic harvesting of a free omental flap. The patient was a 58-year-old man who had undergone several previous operations due to osteomyelitis caused by trauma. There was a non-healing wound and purulent discharge in the distal pretibial region. The flap was harvested based on the right gastroepiploic artery using robotic facilities only. The flap was then transferred to the debrided defect in the pretibial region. Anastomoses were performed between the posterior tibial vessels and the pedicle of the flap. A split thickness skin graft was used to cover the omental fla

Immediate robot-assisted ureteral reimplantation during robotic prostatectomy in locally advanced prostate cancer.

We report the technique and outcomes of immediate robot-assisted ureteral reimplantation due to unexpected ureteral injury during robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP). A 61-year-old male was diagnosed with locally advanced prostate adenocarcinoma (T3bN0M0). Multiple positive margins at the bladder neck were noted on frozen section during RALP, and re-excision of the bladder neck was done. Unfortunately, the distal third of right ureter was transected. We immediately performed robot-assisted ureteroneocystostomy with double J stent insertion. No complications developed during the fo

Absence of Robotics Does Not Influence Day-of-Surgery Cancellation Rates in Total Knee Arthroplasty: Surgeon Experience and Patient Trust Mitigate Technology Expectations.

INTRODUCTION: Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) is increasingly promoted as a precision-enhancing advancement, although clinical studies consistently demonstrate comparable outcomes between rTKA and conventional TKA (cTKA). With rising patient interest in robotics, it remains unclear whether lack of robotic availability affects day-of-surgery cancellations (DOSCs). This study addresses an important knowledge gap by specifically evaluating perception-driven cancellations attributable to absence of robotics, an area that has not been previously quantified in the arthroplasty litera

Robotics and Navigation Do Not Affect the Risk of Periprosthetic Joint Infection Following Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Propensity Score-Matched Cohort Analysis.

BACKGROUND: The use of computer navigation or robotic assistance during primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) has yielded numerous benefits due to more accurate component positioning. The utilization of these tools is generally associated with longer operative times and also necessitates additional surgical equipment and personnel in the operating room. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of technology assistance on periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after primary THA. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records for 12,726 patients who had undergone primary THA at a s

The robotic PIANO: a critical narrative review of surgeon-controlled operative polyphony, human factors, and robotic training.

Robotic surgery can concentrate control of several technical functions at the console, but such concentration does not itself confer clinical independence, reduce dependence on the perioperative team, or improve patient outcomes. We define surgeon-controlled operative polyphony as the phase-bounded coordination of multiple partially independent technical control streams by one console operator within a distributed perioperative system. This critical narrative review and conceptual synthesis asks which technical functions can be concentrated coherently, where human-factors and team dependencies
