The histogenesis of Ewing's sarcoma (ES), the second most frequent primary bone tumor in humans, remains controversial. A new cell line (SIM-1) was derived from a peripheral neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) and used for the production of a monoclonal antibody (HBA-71), which recognizes a novel cell surface antigen of ES- and PNET-derived cells and paraffin-embedded tumor sections. The HBA-71 antigen expression is restricted to PNET/ES and the antigen was not detected on cell lines or tissue sections of any other tumor tested, with the exception of ependymoma. Three proteins with molecular weights

The authors have observed a child of 14 presenting fibrous dysplasia localised to the right femur and right tibia and complicated by an Ewing's sarcoma of the right tibia. The complication was marked only by pain and the radiographs were not typical. It was diagnosed only by microscopic examination after biopsy. Scintigraphy did not reveal any other site of fibrous dysplasia. The tibia was treated by a reinforcing nail followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. After a 4 year follow-up there was neither recurrence nor metastasis. After a review of the literature it is concluded that this combi

Review of current data from the Intergroup Ewing's Sarcoma Study (IESS) shows that Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is rare in bones of the hands and feet. Only 12 of 377 evaluable patients in the first two IESS studies had a primary tumor in these small, distal bones. The age distribution was typical for that seen in patients with ES at other sites. Males were affected twice as often as females, and tumors in the bones of the feet were much more common than those in the hands. All signs and symptoms were local in distribution. As in other sites, the dominant histologic pattern was categorized as diffuse.

The author reports two cases of Ewing's sarcoma with diffuse neoplastic invasion of the bone marrow causing panmyelopoietic failure. This condition must be differentiated from the medullary aplasia which may occur as a complication of treatment of antitumoral chemotherapy in patients affected by Ewing's sarcoma.

PURPOSE: To analyze event-free survival (EFS) and prognostic factors in patients who present with Ewing's tumors (ET) of bone and synchronous pulmonary and/or pleural metastases (ppm).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Of 1,270 patients (pts) registered at the continental office of the German/European Intergroup Cooperative Ewing's Sarcoma Studies (CESS81, CESS86, EICESS92), 114 were diagnosed ET with ppm. Patients underwent neoadjuvant therapy and local treatment of the primary tumor. Whole-lung irradiation 15 to 18 Gy was applied to 75 ppm-pts. EFS and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated acco

Ewing sarcoma is an undifferentiated small round cell sarcoma that most commonly presents as a malignant bone tumor in pediatric and young adult patients. The diagnosis is typically confirmed by molecular genetic identification of a fusion protein, most commonly involving members of the FET and ETS gene families. The most frequent translocation is EWSR1::FLI1 which occurs in approximately 85% of cases. Rare extraosseous cases of superficial Ewing sarcoma have been described, including one molecularly confirmed tumor involving the rectum. Herein, we report the second molecularly confirmed case

Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumors (EES/PNET) of the breast are rare malignant soft-tissue tumors associated with a high recurrence rate. We present the case of a 17-year-old female who presented with a lump in the left breast. Ultrasonography and mammography revealed a large, ill-defined, hypoechoic, heterogeneous, dense lobulated lesion without calcifications. Fine needle aspiration cytology showed atypical cells. Computed tomography of the brain, chest, and abdomen ruled out extra-mammary origin and metastasis. Wide local excision of the lesion followed by histop

This case report presents a 15-year-old boy with extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma who initially experienced right chest wall pain and fever. Imaging revealed a soft-tissue mass with ring-like enhancement and mild rib destruction. Thoracoscopic resection was performed, and paraffin pathology confirmed the diagnosis of extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma. The patient had a smooth postoperative recovery. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges and therapeutic strategies associated with Ewing's sarcoma and emphasizes the importance of early and accurate diagnosis to improve clinical outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Ewing's sarcoma in the intradural and extramedullary space is exceedingly rare. Here, the authors report a rare case of skip metastasis of intradural extramedullary Ewing's sarcoma in the lumbar spine.
OBSERVATIONS: A 73-year-old man underwent surgery at another hospital for an intradural extramedullary spinal tumor at the L4 level, initially suspected to be a schwannoma. However, postoperative histopathological examination revealed Ewing's sarcoma; subsequently, he received local radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Thirty-eight months postoperatively, the patient developed severe low

Ewing sarcomas are rare tumors arising mainly in the bones and the surrounding soft tissues. Primary extraosseous Ewing sarcomas have also been described in several other organs and locations other than bones, including the pancreas. These tumors have well-defined histological, immunohistochemical, and molecular characteristics. In this manuscript, we present a case of primary Ewing sarcoma of the pancreas in a 29-year-old patient, and we systematically review the literature on both primary and metastatic Ewing sarcomas of the pancreas, describing their clinicopathological characteristics. We

Ewing's sarcoma, a rare primary bone malignancy primarily affecting adolescents and young adults, typically manifests in the pelvic bones and femur. Primary Ewing's sarcoma of the sternum is exceptionally rare, constituting less than 1% of cases. We present a case of a 34-year-old man with a 2-month history of anterior chest wall pain initially attributed to muscular spasm. Subsequently, the patient developed a palpable mass and imaging demonstrated a mid-lower sternal lesion with cortical destruction and soft tissue involvement, confirmed as Ewing's sarcoma on biopsy. In addition, a suspiciou

BACKGROUND: Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is an aggressive cancer of bone and soft tissue, most of which tend to occur in the bone. Extraosseous Ewing's sarcoma (EES) of the cervix is extremely rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: In the present work, we reported a 39-year-old cervical EES patient with a 2.5*2.1*1.8 cm tumor mass. According to previous literatures, our case is the smallest tumor found in primary cervical ES ever. The patient initially came to our hospital due to vaginal bleeding, and then the gynecological examination found a neoplasm between the cervical canal and partially in the external cervi

Aneurysmal bone cysts are defined as benign lesions. They expose the patients to a higher risk of pathological fractures. The typical clinical and radiological aspects of the tumor usually do not require a pathological confirmation before a definite treatment. However, in some cases, a malignant tumor will have the same clinical and radiological characteristics of a begin lesion. Our case highlights this fact. We present a case of a 13-year-old patient that presented to us with a pathological fracture. The X-ray and CT scan were in favor of ABC; however, the postoperative pathology revealed an

BACKGROUND: Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is one of the most prevalent malignant bone tumors worldwide. However, the molecular mechanisms of the genes and signaling pathways of ES are still not well sufficiently comprehended. To identify candidate genes involved in the development and progression of ES, the study screened for key genes and biological pathways related to ES using bioinformatics methods.
METHODS: The GSE45544 and GSE17618 microarray datasets were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, and functional enrichment a

Ewing's Sarcoma Family Tumors (ESFT) include classic Ewing's sarcoma of bone, extra-skeletal Ewing's sarcoma (EES), malignant small cell tumor of the chest wall (Askin tumor), and soft tissue-based Peripheral Primitive Neuroectodermal tumors (pPNET). The t(11;22)(q24;q12) translocation is associated with 85% of tumors and leads to EWS-FLI-1 (Ewing's Sarcoma-Friend Leukemia Integration-1) formation. This is a potent transforming gene that encodes a chimeric protein that plays a role in the genesis of Ewing's Sarcoma and Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumors. The breast location of ESFT remains excep

Penile cancer is generally rare, and Squamous cell cancer of the penis is the most common histological type. Sarcoma of the penis has a low incidence, but they tend to grow faster than other penile cancers. One of the rarest types of penile sarcomas is Extra-Skeletal Ewing's Sarcoma (EES). The management of such cases can be challenging, and treatment guidelines do not exist for these rare cases. We present a rare case of EES that has developed in the penis of a young patient in the United Kingdom.
