Protective action of 6-keto-prostaglandin E1 in traumatic shock.

Since prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) is known to have a beneficial effect in hemorrhagic shock, a biologically active derivative of PGE1, 6-keto-PGE1, was examined for its effect on traumatic shock in rats. In sham-operated rats, infusion of 6-keto-PGE1, at a rate of 250 ng/kg/min intravenously decreased arterial blood pressure by 23 mm Hg at 5 hr. In rats subjected to Noble-Collip drum trauma, infusion of 6-keto-PGE1, starting 15 min after the trauma, significantly improved the survival time from 1.0 +/- 0.1 to 2.6 +/- 0.3 hr compared to rats given only the vehicle (i.e., Tris buffer). The improved

[Pathogenetical features of the acute period of traumatic disease. Traumatic shock as a special manifestation of the acute period].

Clinico-pathogenetical features of the acute period of trauma disease due to a severe combined injury were studied in 644 patients. An analysis of clinical indices was made in 428 of them, clinico-laboratory indices--in 216 patients. The results have shown that the main form of the acute period of the trauma disease are traumatic shock (62.8%), traumatic coma (18.3%), acute respiratory insufficiency (5.7%). Dramatically decreased delivery and consumption of oxygen lower than the metabolic requirements of the tissues accompany the traumatic shock which results in the suppression of tissue metab

The Application of PiCCO-guided Fluid Resuscitation in Patients With Traumatic Shock.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the application of pulse contour cardiac output (PiCCO) in patients with traumatic shock. METHODS: Seventy-eight patients with traumatic shock were included and grouped. The control group (CG, n = 39) underwent fluid resuscitation through transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) monitoring, and the research group (RG, n = 39) received PiCCO-guided fluid resuscitation. RESULTS: The mechanical ventilation time, duration of vasoactive drug use, and duration of stay in the intensive care unit were lower in the RG compared to the CG (P < .05). At 72 h

Use of CytoSorb in Traumatic Amputation of the Forearm and Severe Septic Shock.

Severe trauma associated with later disability and mortality still constitutes a major health and socioeconomic problem throughout the world. While primary morbidity and mortality are mostly related to initial injuries and early complications, secondary lethality is strongly linked to the development of systemic inflammatory response syndrome, sepsis, and ultimately multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. We herein report on a 49-year-old male patient who was admitted to the hospital after a traumatic amputation of his right forearm that was cut off while working on a landfill. After initial trea

Effects of Quercetin in a Rat Model of Hemorrhagic Traumatic Shock and Reperfusion.

BACKGROUND: We hypothesized that treatment with quercetin could result in improved hemodynamics, lung inflammatory parameters and mortality in a rat model of hemorrhagic shock. METHODS: Rats were anesthetized (80 mg/kg ketamine plus 8 mg/kg xylazine i.p.). The protocol included laparotomy for 15 min (trauma), hemorrhagic shock (blood withdrawal to reduce the mean arterial pressure to 35 mmHg) for 75 min and resuscitation by re-infusion of all the shed blood plus lactate Ringer for 90 min. Intravenous quercetin (50 mg/kg) or vehicle were administered during resuscitation. RESULTS: There was a
