Prevalence of the Alveolar Antral Artery and Its Accessory Arteries in Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Scans.

Alveolar antral artery (AAA) damage can cause perioperative hemorrhage during osteotomy. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of AAA presence and evaluate its characteristics using cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT). One hundred maxillary sinuses were evaluated from 70 CBCT scans. The anteroposterior dimension of each sinus was divided into four equal quarters, and the main artery presence was noted for each section. Arterial diameter as well as distance to sinus floor and to alveolar ridge were measured, and the position of the main artery according to its location relativ

Maxillary Sinus Elevation Using the Bone Ring Technique with Immediate Implantation: A Case Report.

Compared to other areas of the oral cavity, an edentulous posterior maxilla poses a unique challenge for implant placement. The most important aspect to consider is the maxillary sinus. This paper describes a case in which the bone ring technique was used to raise the floor of the maxillary sinus, followed by immediate implantation. A 37-year-old woman presented with a ridge defect in the left maxilla and the absence of teeth 26 and 27 (FDI tooth-numbering system) on the same side. The treatment plan involved the extraction of tooth 25, periodontal regeneration on the distal face of tooth 24,

Influence of the contact area of the sub-antral space with sinus bone and the Schneiderian membrane on osteogenesis in lateral window sinus elevation surgery: a prospective experiment.

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis of lateral window sinus elevation surgery is the key to placement of the subsequent implant, excessive collapse of the sub-antral space may adversely affect long-term stability of implants. At present, few studies focus on the influence of the contact area of the sub-antral space on osteogenesis. This study evaluated whether the change in the contact area of the sub-antral space with maxillary sinus bone and the Schneiderian membrane can affect osteogenesis. METHODS: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were collected of patients requiring maxillary sinus floor

Sinus floor elevation using tricalcium phosphate plate.

When the sinus is enlarged, it may be necessary to elevate the floor of the maxillary sinus using the crestal or lateral approach. This report presents a case where sinus floor elevation was performed using tricalcium phosphate (TCP) plates supported by implant bodies, and only the blood clot was present around the implant bodies. Cone-beam computed tomography images, taken one year after the lateral approach, revealed the presence of a TCP-like radio-opacity, which almost disappeared after two years. About seven years after the surgery, the patient's superstructure and occlusion were stable.
