The novel application of a UV epifluorescence microscope as an imaging detector for microbore and capillary high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is reported. The microscope is focused on an in-line quartz flow cell incorporated down stream of a microbore HPLC column or directly on an optically clear portion of fused-silica capillary columns for analyte detection. Centbucridine (9-n-butylamino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroacridine) is a new potent local anaesthetic. Its degradation in aqueous solutions has been investigated with the help of thin-layer chromatography. Apart from the degradation products 9-amino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroacridine and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroacridone, acridone was also found to be present. It is shown that the acridone is produced not through a dehydrogenation reaction but some other unknown pathway.

Pentobarbital was quantitated in serum by a homogeneous enzyme immunoassay (EMIT), and the method evaluated for accuracy and precision. A comparison was performed against the authors' modified Goldbaum ultraviolet spectrophotometric procedure. The analytical sensitivity was 2 micrograms/mL with a linearity to 10 micrograms/mL and a coefficient of variation of 6.24%. A novel computerized automated system is described which conforms to the basic requirements set forth in the compendia for testing the dissolution characteristics of solid dosage forms. This modular system can test 12 tablets simultaneously. It can maintain sink conditions at all times and can handle any chemistry amenable to an automatic analyzer. Dissolution, sampling, chemistry, and readout are all accomplished simultaneously, reducing the complete test time for 12 tablets to the dissolution time itself.

A simple spectrophotometric assay is described based on the conversion of hypoxanthine to inosine monophosphate and precipitation of both the reaction product and protein with lanthanum phosphate. The extent of conversion is determined by the fall in absorbance of hypoxanthine at 249 nm. The assay is suitable for screening red cell lysates for hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase deficiency.

A new apparatus (UVASUN 5000) is presented with high radiation energy between 320-460 nm. The measurable energy below 320 nm was shown to be many orders of magnitude too low to produce erythema. The radiator is a specially developed source for high UV-A intensity, housing a quartz bulb with a mixture of argon, mercury and metal-halides. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the molluscicidal effect of niclosamidate against Oncomelania hupensis in laboratory and explore its mechanism by determining the enzyme activities of six important enzymes in snail soft tissues.
METHODS: O. hupensis snails were treated with niclosamidate at the concentration of 1.25 mg/L for 24 h and the snail soft tissues were separated and prepared for analysis.
