BACKGROUND: Hereditary spherocytosis (HS) is an inherited hematologic disorder characterized by spherical erythrocytes that are prematurely destroyed in the spleen. Total splenectomy (TS) and partial splenectomy (PS) are surgical interventions used to manage HS, but long-term outcomes, including recurrence of splenomegaly and splenomegaly-related symptoms, remain poorly understood.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the long-term recurrence of splenomegaly and splenomegaly-related symptoms in children with HS who underwent PS versus TS at a single institution between 2008 and 2020.

OBJECTIVES: Gray platelet syndrome (GPS) is a rare platelet storage pool disorder associated with a marked decrease or absence of platelet α-granules and their contents. It is characterized clinically by mild to moderate bleeding; moderate macrothrombocytopenia with large, agranular platelets; splenomegaly; and bone marrow fibrosis. We report a gamma-delta T-cell lymphoma, in a male patient having a hyperactive malarial splenomegaly. The immunological disorder caused by chronic antigenic stimulation could be one of the causes leading to the occurrence of such hematologic disease. The prognosis of this type of lymphoma remains poor, partly due to delayed diagnosis. Therefore, it seems appropriate to investigate any atypical hyperactive malarial splenomegaly. In our observation, the macrophagic activation syndrome led us to discover the lymphoma.

We present the clinical case of a 20-year-old male soldier who appeared in general good physical condition. He suffered from infectious mononucleosis caused by Epstein-Barr virus that had recurred 2 years after the first serologically documented episode. The detected splenomegaly persisted in the healthy young man, who otherwise showed no apparent immune deficiency. To our knowledge, this is an extremely rare condition.

RATIONALE: Gaucher disease (GD) is a rare hereditary lysosomal storage disorder disease progression and inappropriate treatment. However, not all patients with GD receive timely diagnosis and treatment.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Early diagnosis is important for initiating proper treatment and preventing complications.
