The Project to Learn About Youth-Mental Health (PLAY-MH; 2014-2018) is a school-based, two-stage study designed to estimate the prevalence of selected mental disorders among K-12 students in four U.S.-based sites (Colorado, Florida, Ohio, and South Carolina). In Stage 1, teachers completed validated screeners to determine student risk status for externalizing or internalizing problems or tics; the percentage of students identified as being at high risk ranged from 17.8% to 34.4%. In Stage 2, parents completed a structured diagnostic interview to determine whether their child met criteria for f

Proper musculoskeletal health is dependent on the efficient inner workings of muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and bones. The homeless experience can be physically debilitating to these tissues and anatomical structures. This feasibility study aims to explore how to answer the overarching question: do the lived experiences of homeless young adults negatively affect their musculoskeletal health? Questionnaires were distributed to assess the demographic characteristics, physical activity, health behaviors, and sleep patterns of 40 homeless young adults and 45 university students in Los Angel

BACKGROUND: Regular visits to the health care providers can develop a relationship that can extend beyond the physical health alone as the patient is transiting towards older age, adapting to changes in physical health, emotional health, and social connections. Apart from limiting access to health care services, the attitudes, beliefs, comfort level of the treating doctors towards the geriatric patients can motivate or demotivate them to access dental care.
AIM: To explore the Saudi Arabian undergraduate students perception of geriatric patients and identify potential barriers that prevent th

BACKGROUND: Legal and safe termination of pregnancy (TOP) has long been recognised as an important public health issue internationally. Healthcare professionals (HCPs) and students have a key role within TOP services, and it is crucial that they have sufficient understanding of laws, guidelines and clinical practice to facilitate safe and effective care. The current systematic review aims to study the level of knowledge of both HCPs and students on TOP legislation, methods and procedures and potential associated complications.
METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Scopus and EBSCOhost were searched for pe

A recent outbreak of cryptosporidiosis (Cryptosporidium parvum, subtype IIdA23G1) among veterinary students associated with extracurricular activities concerned with lambs is described from Norway. Although cryptosporidiosis outbreaks among veterinary students have been frequently reported, this is among the first from lamb contact. Cryptosporidium oocysts were detected in samples from two students and three lambs. A questionnaire distributed immediately after the outbreak was recognized, identified an assumed attack rate of 50% based on exposure and illness among exposed students (28 of 56),

BACKGROUND: Russia is one of 22 high burden tuberculosis (TB) countries. Identifying individuals, particularly health care workers (HCWs) with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), and determining the rate of infection, can assist TB control through chemoprophylaxis and improving institutional cross-infection strategies. The objective of the study was to estimate the prevalence and determine the relative risks and risk factors for infection, within a vertically organised TB service in a country with universal bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination.

INTRODUCTION: Student-run free clinics (SRFCs) have the capacity to decrease health care inequity in underserved populations. These facilities can benefit from improved patient experience and outcomes. We implemented a series of quality improvement interventions with the objectives to decrease patient wait times and to increase the variety of services provided.
METHODS: A needs assessment was performed. Problems related to time management, communication between staff and providers, clinic resources, and methods for assessing clinic performance were identified as targets to reduce wait times a

BACKGROUND: The present study sought to examine the pedagogical value of developing self-assessment skills through the memorization and regular self-reminding of correct posture among secondary school students. In addition, the research aimed to investigate whether a posture-reminding training method could positively influence self-assessment abilities, health-related behaviors, and stress reduction. The underlying assumption was that beyond the mere provision of theoretical knowledge and instructions related to a healthy lifestyle, it is essential to support students in internalizing and inte

BACKGROUND: Low health literacy is a barrier to positive health behaviors and outcomes among adolescents, especially in marginalized communities. Sustained, youth-centered interventions for high-risk populations are limited.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO PRACTICE: We implemented and conducted an exploratory evaluation of a year-long, medical student-led program for ninth- and tenth-grade students at two Detroit public high schools. The program demonstrated the feasibility of interactive school-based health literacy programming and identified practical considerations for future implementation. Using anonym

BACKGROUND: The impact of childhood sexual abuse can last a lifetime. It is more prevalent than many common complexities that require additional care during the childbirth cycle but is rarely part of the education of healthcare professionals and students. This study informed the development of an e-resource to support maternity healthcare professionals and students caring for people with lived experience of childhood sexual abuse.
OBJECTIVES: To identify any previous learning of pre-registration students and healthcare professionals in relation to care of survivors of childhood sexual abuse,

BACKGROUND: Most school districts lack infrastructure to systematically identify whole-person needs and connect students to coordinated services. We developed and implemented a whole-person screening tool within a county-school partnership model.
METHODS: Between 2020 and 2024, Riverside University Health System-Behavioral Health partnered with a Southern California unified school district to implement the Whole Person Health Score-Adolescent Version (WPHS-AV) for 11,786 high school students. The partnership included universal screening, governance structures, tiered triage workflows, and sch

A health needs assessment was developed to facilitate implementation of a comprehensive school-based adolescent clinic. Students were asked about their willingness to use a school-based clinic for certain health and emotional problems. Six hundred students in grades 9 through 12 completed anonymous self-administered questionnaires. Twenty-eight percent of respondents reported recently feeling depressed; 12% reported a prior suicide attempt. Twenty-five percent of students felt they were overweight. Of 56% who had experienced intercourse at least once, only one third had ever used birth control

PURPOSE: To evaluate a brief, theoretically guided sexually transmitted disease (STD) risk-reduction intervention tailored to college-aged women.
METHODS: The participants were 78 undergraduate females (M = 20 years; 76% European-American) who reported inconsistent condom use or multiple sexual partners. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups: (a) a one-session intervention based on the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model, (b) a one-session information-only intervention (INFO), or (c) a wait-list control (WLC) group. BackgroundThis study investigated an innovative pedagogical strategy aimed at embedding cultural safety and First Nations perspectives within tertiary nursing education.MethodGrounded in cultural co-teaching, this approach uses the principle of Two-Eyed Seeing to address the historical exclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from the Australian tertiary education and health sector. A descriptive qualitative approach combined with thematic analysis identified that students developed an enhanced understanding of colonisation on First Nations health.ResultsFour themes were iden

This article describes how the Health Education and Art for Resiliency Teaching (HEART) project facilitated the implementation of deep breathing exercises, led by school nurses, serving rural and vulnerable school-aged children. The project used the Health Equity Framework to enhance the benefits of interventions that provided teachers and students with a practical and effective adjunctive tool to manage anxiety. The breathing techniques were successful in reducing student referrals to the administrative staff and to the school nurse for acting out or feeling ill due to stress-induced anxiety.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of school-based physiotherapy interventions for improving students' participation in school settings.
METHOD: A systematic review was reported using PRISMA guidelines. Four databases were searched for studies investigating physiotherapy outcomes of school-based physiotherapy interventions in children. Studies were categorised by intervention type and evaluated based on evidence level and conduct.
RESULTS: Fifteen intervention types (23 studies) met criteria. Strong positive evidence supported treadmill training without bodyweight support (n = 1), and up
