[Effects of plant polysaccharides-containing compound agents on yield and matter accumulation and transportation of winter wheat].

A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of foliar spraying of three kinds of compound agents [plant polysaccharides (P1), plant polysaccharides plus 5-aminolevulinic acid (P2), and plant polysaccharides plus 5-aminolevulinic acid and dimethylpiperidinium chloride (P3)] at the initial flowering stage of winter wheat on its yield components, sucrose content, soluble sugar content, the accumulation and translocation of dry matter, nitrogen and phosphorus. The grain number per spike and kilo-grains mass of winter wheat increased with the spray of the compound agents. The grain yield

Nucleotide Sugar Pucker Preference Mitigates Excision by HIV-1 RT.

A series of DNA primers containing nucleotides with various sugar pucker conformations at the 3'-terminus were chemically synthesized by solid-phase synthesis. The ability of wild-type (WT) HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) and AZT-resistant (AZTr) RT to excise the 3'-terminal nucleotide was assessed. Nucleosides with a preference for the North conformation were more refractory to excision by both WT-RT and AZTr-RT. We found that DNA primers that contain North puckered-nucleotides at the 3'-terminus can also affect the translocation status of the RT/template/primer complex, which provides an un

Evaluation of ultrasonic, acid, thermo-alkaline and enzymatic pre-treatments on anaerobic digestion of Ulva rigida for biogas production.

Pre-treatment of macroalgae has received considerable research globally due to its influence on the technical, economic and environmental sustainability of algae biogas production. Some of the most promising pre-treatment methods require the application of chemicals, enzymatic, and mechanical. This study focused on these pre-treatments of Ulva rigida for biogas production. The evaluation of different pre-treatment in terms of reducing sugar yields demonstrates that 3.62, 2.88, 2.53 and 7.3g/L of reducing sugar was obtained in acid catalysis, thermoalkaline, ultrasonication and enzymatic pre-tr

[Effect of different carbon sources on pyruvic acid production by using lpdA gene knockout Escherichia coli].

We studied the ability of lpdA gene knockout Escherichia coli to ferment different sugars in mineral salts medium for the production of pyruvate. The sugars studied were glucose, fructose, xylose and mannose at a concentration of 10 g/L. At the same time, effect of inoculum size on lpdA fermentation with glucose was studied. The strain was able to use all sugars for biomass generation and pyruvate production. The lpdA knockout mutant converted glucose, fructose, xylose and mannose to pyruvate with yields of 0.884 g/g, 0.802 g/g, 0.817 g/g and 0.808 g/L, respectively. The pyruvate accumulation

High-titer microbial lipid fermentation and extractive recovery by cell wall-weakened Trichosporon cutaneum strain and wheat straw sugar syrup feedstock.

Lignocellulosic biomass is a promising feedstock for sustainable microbial lipid production; however, its utilization is hindered by low fermentation performance and inefficient lipid recovery. In this study, an integrated strategy combining enzyme-mediated adaptive evolution combined with centrifugal fractionation was employed to generate the oleaginous yeast strain Trichosporon cutaneum YY52E, exhibiting enhanced lipid accumulation and reduced cell wall integrity. The lipid titer reached 60.1 g/L in fed-batch fermentation, with a yield of 0.3 g/g sugars, using wheat straw sugar syrup prepare

Distinct Nutritional Profiles of Fermented Chamerion angustifolium from Natural, Organic, and Biodynamic Cultivation Systems: Evidence from a Four-Year Study.

This four-year study assessed the nutritional profiles of fermented Chamerion angustifolium leaves from natural, organic, and biodynamic cultivation systems. Vitamins, pigments, and sugars were analyzed under standardized aerobic solid-state fermentation (SSF) for 24 and 48 h. Biodynamically grown leaves showed 42.7% and 49.7% higher β-carotene levels than organically and naturally grown leaves, while naturally grown leaves accumulated the most chlorophylls and total sugars. Organic cultivation promoted the highest vitamin C and L-ascorbic acid concentrations. Prolonged fermentation (48 h) sig

General and fast synthesis of graphene frameworks using sugars for high-performance hydrogen peroxide nonenzymatic electrochemical sensor.

3D graphene frameworks (GFs) are fast and scalably synthesized via a general and facile method from the rich biomass of sugars with the aid of molten salts, using glucose as the prototype, to obtain an effective sensing platform for sensitive nonenzymatic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) detection. The electroactive area of the GFs/GCE (0.1437 cm2) is obviously higher than that of bare GCE (0.0653 cm2). The GFs are found to exhibit remarkable electrocatalytic activity toward H2O2 reduction while avoiding enzyme loading. The electrochemical sensor for H2O2 based on GFs displays a low detection limit of

Crystal structure of TDP-fucosamine acetyltransferase (WecD) from Escherichia coli, an enzyme required for enterobacterial common antigen synthesis.

Enterobacterial common antigen (ECA) is a polysaccharide found on the outer membrane of virtually all gram-negative enteric bacteria and consists of three sugars, N-acetyl-d-glucosamine, N-acetyl-d-mannosaminuronic acid, and 4-acetamido-4,6-dideoxy-d-galactose, organized into trisaccharide repeating units having the sequence -->3)-alpha-d-Fuc4NAc-(1-->4)-beta-d-ManNAcA-(1-->4)-alpha-d-GlcNAc-(1-->. While the precise function of ECA is unknown, it has been linked to the resistance of Shiga-toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) O157:H7 to organic acids and the resistance of Salmonella enterica

Funneliformis mosseae Modulates Root 14-3-3 Gene Expression to Enhance Drought Tolerance in Trifoliate Orange: A Molecular-Physiological Integration.

The 14-3-3 family proteins are involved in plant metabolism and stress signal transduction, while whether and how they contribute to the enhancement of host drought tolerance by arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi remains unclear. This study aimed to identify the 14-3-3 gene family (GRF) in trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata) and analyze their responses in roots to drought and inoculation with the AM fungus Funneliformis mosseae, integrating molecular data with physiological assessments. Despite drought-inhibited AM fungal colonization and soil mycelium length, AM inoculation markedly increa

Unraveling the concentration-dependent metabolic response of Pseudomonas sp. HF-1 to nicotine stress by ¹H NMR-based metabolomics.

Nicotine can cause oxidative damage to organisms; however, some bacteria, for example Pseudomonas sp. HF-1, are resistant to such oxidative stress. In the present study, we analyzed the concentration-dependent metabolic response of Pseudomonas sp. HF-1 to nicotine stress using ¹H NMR spectroscopy coupled with multivariate data analysis. We found that the dominant metabolites in Pseudomonas sp. HF-1 were eight aliphatic organic acids, six amino acids, three sugars and 11 nucleotides. After 18 h of cultivation, 1 g/L nicotine caused significant elevation of sugar (glucose, trehalose and maltose)

Developmental changes in the level of free and conjugated sialic acids, Neu5Ac, Neu5Gc and KDN in different organs of pig: a LC-MS/MS quantitative analyses.

Recent studies have shown a relationship between the level of the sialic acid (Sia), N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) in red meat and its risk in cancer, cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases. Unresolved is the Sia concentration in different organs of piglets during development. Our aim was to determine the level of free and conjugated forms of Neu5Gc, N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) and ketodeoxynonulsonic acid (Kdn) in fresh and cooked spleen, kidney, lung, heart, liver, and skeletal muscle from 3-days-old (n = 4-8), 38-days-old (n = 10) and adult piglets (n = 4) by LC-MS/MS. Study on the Browning Mechanism of Multivitamin Iron Oral Solution Based on Sucrose-Lysine Maillard Reaction.

Severe browning often occurs in Multivitamin Iron Oral Solution during storage, which directly leads to the decline of product quality. To clarify the main mechanism of browning in this preparation, the contents of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) and carbohydrates, as well as the relevant characteristic parameters such as color and fluorescence, were determined at different storage times in this study. Subsequently, four reaction models, namely sucrose-lysine, sucrose-citric acid, sucrose-niacin, and sucrose-folic acid, were constructed according to the formulation of the preparation to system

Comparative proteomic and metabolomic analyses reveal mechanisms of improved cold stress tolerance in bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) by exogenous calcium.

As an important second messenger, calcium is involved in plant cold stress response, including chilling (<20 °C) and freezing (<0 °C). In this study, exogenous application of calcium chloride (CaCl2 ) improved both chilling and freezing stress tolerances, while ethylene glycol-bis-(β-aminoethyl) ether-N,N,N,N-tetraacetic acid (EGTA) reversed CaCl2 effects in bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.). Physiological analyses showed that CaCl2 treatment alleviated the reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst and cell damage triggered by chilling stress, via activating antioxidant enzymes, non-enzymat

Histochemical studies of epithelial cell glycoproteins in normal rat colon.

Two general classes of glycoproteins have been identified in the colonic epithelial cells of the Sprague Dawley rat. Glycoproteins belonging to the first of these classes contain sialic acids both with and without side chain o-acyl substituents, abundant o-sulphate ester and 'neutral sugars' (hexose, 6-deoxyhexose or N-acetyl hexosamine residues) with oxidisable vicinal diols and are located in the goblet cells of the descending colon and in goblet cells populating the upper halves of the crypts of the ascending colon. In the descending colon, the sulphosialoglycoproteins in the goblet cells i

Chiral discrimination of amino acids in meteorite and desert soil extracts via single-molecule nanogap conductance.

Life on Earth uses L-amino acids and D-sugars, whereas abiotic processes produce equal abundances of both enantiomers. Detecting enantiomeric excess among molecules of biological interest has therefore been proposed as a potential biosignature for life beyond Earth. However, robust electrical methods for determining the L/D ratios of amino acids and sugars at low concentrations, particularly in chemically complex samples, remain limited. Here we show that quantum tunneling currents electrically distinguish individual L- and D-amino acids and quantify their ratios at the single-molecule level w

Control of residual maltose in low-alcohol beer produced by non-Saccharomyces yeast with enzymatic treatment.

Non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beer (NABLAB) production by maltose-negative non-Saccharomyces yeast (NSY) runs the risk of excessive sweetness due to the high residual maltose in the finished beer which may overshadow the unique flavors produced by the NSY. The goal of this study was to modify the fermentable sugar profile in wort to better suit maltose-negative NSY, resulting in low residual maltose worts while maintaining low ethanol levels. This was achieved by adding amyloglucosidase (AMG) to increase the proportion of glucose by partially hydrolyzing maltose and maltotriose. Two treatments
