BACKGROUND: Cosmetic tattoos in the periocular area, including microblading, have become increasingly popular. More patients have been seeking laser tattoo removal.OBJECTIVE: A retrospective chart review for the laser treatment of eyeliner and eyebrow tattoos and a discussion of treatment experiences can better inform physicians.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed over five years with patients who had eyeliner and/or eyebrow tattoos and had laser removal.

Necrobiosis lipoidica (NL) is a rare, chronic idiopathic granulomatous dermatitis with a somewhat controversial association with diabetes and other systemic diseases. We report a case of NL developing within a polychromic tattoo on the lower leg of a 53-year-old woman. Characteristic histopathologic findings of both active and chronic "burnt-out" NL appeared to originate from the tattoo where red ink was used 13 years prior. To the best of our knowledge, only 3 other cases of tattoo-associated NL have been reported.

High-density foci within axillary lymph nodes are associated with a number of potential diagnoses. In this case series, we present four tattooed patients who had mammographic findings that demonstrated high-density material in axillary lymph nodes, indicative of tattoo pigment migration. The aim of presenting these cases is to highlight the importance of recognizing such pigment migration in order to help breast radiologists form an appropriate differential diagnosis that might include this entity.

A previously healthy 26-year-old male was referred to our hospital for fever occurring after getting a tattoo on the left leg. At the emergency department, he was promptly diagnosed with sepsis and necrotizing fasciitis of the left leg. The patient was empirically treated with vancomycin and piperacillin/tazobactam. PURPOSE: To describe a patient with an amelanotic choroidal melanoma, originally misdiagnosed as a choroidal granuloma, following his systemic diagnosis of tattoo-associated sarcoidosis.
OBSERVATIONS: The amelanotic choroidal tumor, suspected to be a granuloma, failed initial steroid treatment. Full-thickness chorioretinal biopsy demonstrated histologic presence of uveal melanoma and tumor genetics via GEP analysis demonstrated a PRAME negative, Class 1A lesion. The amelanotic choroidal melanoma was treated successfully with I-125 plaque brachytherapy.

Cosmetic tattooing has become a risk factor for several adverse reactions related to inks, procedures, and associated clinical conditions. Development of a sarcoid reaction to the inserted tattoo pigment in the skin is not common. Many publications have addressed the medical complications of tattoos, but to our knowledge there are no reports of their use to alert people in our field of potentially dangerous conditions. We present a new way to inform oral and maxillofacial colleagues about patients with a history of malignant hyperthermia (or any other life-threatening medical problem) and discuss the potential advantages and disadvantages of medical alert tattoos.

A tattoo is defined as the intentional or accidental deposit of pigment into the skin. The phenomenon of skin tattooing is on the rise worldwide and complications of tattooing are increasingly being recognised in diagnostic and clinical medicine. We describe a case of calcification-like changes on mammography resembling that of breast malignancy as a result of tattoo pigment deposition in an axillary lymph node. Recognition of such changes in routine breast screening is crucial to avoid further unnecessary invasive investigations and surgery in such patients.
