Comparison of the acute effects of self- and therapist-administered myofascial release techniques on muscle flexibility and jumping performance in professional male basketball players: A randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Basketball is a vertical sport by nature and requires sudden, rapid, and repetitive movements, where jumping performance is often a determining factor for athletic performance. Despite the extensive focus on athletic performance, the acute effects of cost-effective techniques on athletic performance are limited in basketball players. This study aimed to evaluate the acute effects of self-myofascial release and therapist-administered myofascial release on muscle flexibility and jumping performance in professional male basketball players. METHODS: The study included 36 professiona

Myofascial induction technique changes plantar pressures variables compared to a simulated laser. A randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: The fascial system is made up of large number of mechanoreceptors and cells that regulate their tension, such as myofibroblasts, in addition to an extracellular matrix. The treatment of myofascial induction has shown in the static imprint in a quasi-experimental study comparing the effect before and after the technique, but there are no studies compared with a control with no real intervention. The objective of this research is to check the effects of the myofascial Induction technique, compared with a simulated Laser in plantar footprint variables in asymptomatic subjects. METHOD

Surgical resection and targeted therapy in a pediatric NTRK-rearranged low-grade spindle cell sarcoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Neurotrophic tropomyosin receptor kinase (NTRK) gene fusions have emerged as important oncogenic drivers across a wide range of malignancies, including soft tissue sarcomas. Early detection of these fusions facilitates precision treatment with TRK inhibitors, significantly improving clinical outcomes. However, diagnosing NTRK-rearranged spindle cell neoplasms (NTRK-RSCNs) remains challenging due to their histological heterogeneity and overlap with other soft tissue tumors. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of an 8-year-old boy with a history of infantile fibromatosis, who dev

London International Consensus and Delphi study on hamstring injuries part 2: operative management.

The key indications for surgical repair of hamstring injuries (HSIs) remain unclear in the literature due to a lack of high-level evidence and expert knowledge. The 2020 London International Hamstring Consensus meeting aimed to highlight clear surgical indications and to create a foundation for future research. A literature review was conducted followed by a modified Delphi process, with an international expert panel. Purposive sampling was used with two rounds of online questionnaires and an intermediate round involving a consensus meeting. The initial information gathering (round 1) question

Modified negative-pressure wound therapy for linear blister formation prevention around foam dressings: technical note and case series.

BACKGROUND: Linear blisters (LBs) often occur around dressings when negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is used to cover open wounds. Tension blisters may increase the wound infection incidence rate, delay the start of operation, and prolong the duration of hospital stay. Currently, there are no established methods for the prevention of LB formation around dressings, which remains to be a major concern in clinical applications. Therefore, we developed a novel, simple, reproducible, and convenient method for preventing LB formation around NPWT dressings. METHOD: Fifty-three cases of Gustilo

Management of fractures of the condyle, condylar neck, and coronoid process.

Proper anatomic reduction of the fracture and accelerated complete recovery are desirable goals after trauma reconstruction. Over the recent decades, significant headway in craniomaxillofacial trauma care has been achieved and advancements in the management for the injuries of the mandibular condyle have also proved to be no exception. A trend in operative and reconstructive options for proper anatomic reduction and internal fixation has become notable as a result of newly introduced technology, surgical techniques, and operative expertise.

Evaluation of nitazoxanide for the treatment of disseminated cystic echinococcosis: report of five cases and literature review.

We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of nitazoxanide in disseminated cystic echinococcosis (DCE) that failed to respond to surgical and antiparasitic therapy. We report on seven patients (five of them with bony involvement): two cases from the literature and five patients who were included in a compassionate trial of nitazoxanide therapy in our hospital. Median follow-up time until nitazoxanide therapy was 12 years and all patients had received prior medical treatment and extensive surgery. Nitazoxanide (500 mg/12 h) in combination with albendazole, with/without praziquantel, was administere

Necrotizing Fasciitis Following Wet Cupping: A Case Report.

Cupping therapy is a widely practiced form of adjunctive medicine and it has been used since ancient times. It involves using cups over the skin to create negative pressure. The exact mechanism by which cupping therapy exerts its effects is unknown, but it is thought to act as an artificial kidney. In this report, we present a case of a 35-year-old male who developed Pseudomonas-positive necrotizing fasciitis following wet cupping therapy. He refused surgical intervention and subsequently died. Necrotizing fasciitis is a severe soft tissue infection that has a high mortality rate. The only pro

Update on anterior ankle impingement.

Anterior ankle impingement results from an impingement of the ankle joint by a soft tissue or osteophyte formation at the anterior aspect of the distal tibia and talar neck. It often occurs secondary to direct trauma (impaction force) or repetitive ankle dorsiflexion (repetitive impaction and traction force). Chronic ankle pain, swelling, and limitation of ankle dorsiflexion are common complaints. Imaging is valuable for diagnosis of the bony impingement but not for the soft tissue impingement, which is based on clinical findings. MR imaging and MR arthrography are helpful in doubtful diagnose

Management of facial soft tissue injuries in children.

Pediatric facial trauma can present a challenge to even the more experienced plastic surgeon. Injuries to the head and neck may involve bone and soft tissues with an assortment of specialized organs and tissue elements involved. Because of the active nature of children, facial soft tissue injuries can be diverse and extensive as well as some of the more common injuries a plastic surgeon is asked to treat. In 2007, approximately 800,000 patients younger than 15 years presented to emergency departments around the country with significant open wounds of the head that required treatment. In this re

Forced Eruption for Implant Site Development Utilizing a CAD/CAM Provisional Fixed Dental Prosthesis: A Case Report.

Preexisting hard and soft tissue defects around hopeless teeth can impede the ideal esthetic and functional outcomes of implant therapy. Orthodontic extrusion has been described as a predictable nonsurgical alternative for vertical hard and soft tissue augmentation, commonly through the use of orthodontic brackets on multiple adjacent teeth. This case report describes an alternative technique via orthodontic extrusion, utilizing a digitally designed and milled fixed provisional restoration. The provisional restoration served as an anchor in the forced eruption of a maxillary lateral incisor fo

Compromised Airway and Atypical Facial Growth in The Adult Patient: A Case Study in the Redirection of Facial Growth.

This case history is an adult patient with a compromised upper airway, soft tissue dysfunction, and atypicalfacial growth. The nasal deviation and enlarged turbinates resulted in mouth-breathing and soft tissue dysfunction. Atypical growth occurs when the biological balance between bone remodeling and positional displacement is disrupted Following septoplasty and turbinate reduction to reestablish nasal respiration and myofunctional therapy to retrain the muscles, the atypical growth was redirected to normal. The final result was an overall improvement in general health, esthetics, and well-be

Diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis in children.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare but progressive soft tissue infection. This condition is difficult to recognize in the early phase, when it is often confused with cellulitis. We report the cases of four children with necrotizing fasciitis. The initial presentation in these cases was cellulitis. Fever and soft tissue swelling occurred within 24 h and spreading erythema within 4 to 12 h. Radiologic studies of the lesions showed soft tissue thickening. Ultrasonography of the lesions demonstrated distorted, thickened fascia with fluid accumulation. Well-defined, loculated abscesses were demonstrat
