The value of lacrimal scintigraphy in the assessment of nasolacrimal duct obstruction was determined by comparing the results with syringing in 67 patients (83 eyes). As expected, of 28 lacrimal drainage systems which were obstructed on syringing, 23 (82%) had abnormalities of tear drainage on scintigraphy. However, in 55 lacrimal drainage systems that were patent on syringing, 19 (35%) were normal, but in 36 (65%) abnormalities not apparent on syringing were detected on scintigraphy. New imaging method that was integrated image of radionuclide liver angiogram was proposed. Patients were placed supine beneath gamma camera, so that the liver, spleen, heart, and lung were included in an anterior image. Integrated image was recorded for 100 s, following injection of 111-222 MBq (3-6 mCi) of 99mTc tin-colloid. 595 cases were examined, and classified into 3 groups as follows. In a retrospective study, scintigraphic spleen size was compared with actual spleen weight. Using the formula W = pi/7 h (h2 + 3ab), the normal weight was calculated too large and splenic enlargement was calculated too small. Other scintigraphic parameters seem to be just as unreliable. We suggest to judge scintigraphic spleen mass as normal and only be enlarged in obvious situations.

The isolated in vivo intestinal segment is a popular experimental preparation for the investigation of intestinal function, but its value has been limited because no method has been available for measuring changes in intraluminal volume under experimental conditions. With the motivation of discovering high-temperature superconductors, evolutionary algorithm USPEX is employed to search for all stable compounds in the Sn-H system. In addition to the traditional SnH4, new hydrides SnH8, SnH12 and SnH14 are found to be thermodynamically stable at high pressure. Twelve representative food types including beans, fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, potatoes, sugar, beverages, alcohol, eggs, milk and corn were collected from four districts in China for the analysis of butyltin compounds. The hyphenated system of capillary gas chromatography-flame photometric detector using quartz surface-induced tin emission was used to measure proyylated butyltins in various samples. Low levels (ng g(-1)) of butyltin compounds were found in some samples and possible sources of contamination and their significance are discussed.

Dental amalgam specimens were polished and afterward etched by an acid iodine solution. The replicas were obtained by the vacuum coating technique. A handheld XRF-analyzer specially calibrated for measurements of metals on plastic boat hulls has been used on leisure boats in Denmark (DK), Finland (FI), and Germany (DE). Two N-methyl-5-lithio-2-pyrrolidinones have been prepared by tin-lithium exchange. These two alpha-aminoorganolithium compounds that are stabilized by an amide dipole, but not by chelation to the amide carbonyl. Both constitute test cases for comparing the stability and reactivity of "dipole-stabilized" and "unstabilized" alpha-aminoorganolithiums. We find that active methylene protons interfere with the reaction, so geminal disubstitution alpha to the amide carbonyl was necessary to suppress side reactions.
