Crack Extension Analysis and Parameter Optimization in Robot-Assisted Cracked Tooth Preparation Process: Finite Element Analysis and Experiment.

Existing robot-assisted cracked tooth preparation systems often result in crack extension or even tooth fracture due to inappropriate parameter settings. In order to solve this problem, a thermal-mechanical coupling model was developed to optimize the grinding parameters for a cracked tooth preparation robot. The grinding force model, based on an empirical formula, was established and analyzed. Using this model, the grinding temperature field of the tooth surface under a moving heat source was also determined. The optimal feed speed and rotational speed of the bur were identified through analy

Posttraumatic use of dental implants immediately after tooth extraction: clinical study.

PURPOSE: Root fracture is a combined injury of cementum, dentin, and pulp. Many of these traumas remain untreated, mistreated, or overtreated. It leads to a more complicated treatment in case of tooth loss. Many different treatment procedures, with a very changeable success rate, have been proposed for years to treat teeth with root fractures. The objective of the following clinical studies was to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of implants placed in fresh extraction sites to treat teeth with horizontal root fracture. METHODS: The study group included 25 patients (15 men and 10 women) bet

Crown-Root Fractures in Primary Teeth: A Case Series Study of 28 Cases.

Crown-root fractures in primary teeth are rare, with a wide variation of patterns that make diagnosis and treatment difficult. The aim of this study was to present a case series of crown-root fractures in primary teeth of children who attended a reference center. The study followed 28 cases of crown-root fractures in 26 children, representing 4% of the total number of attendees over 11 years of reference service at the Universidade Federal de Pelotas, Pelotas, Brazil. In most cases, the maxillary central incisors (85.7%) were involved. In the crown, 57.1% of the cases had a simple line of frac

[The restoration of teeth with subgingival fractures].

The authors review the history of forced advancing of teeth and describe 10 patients with 10 upper teeth (3 lateral and 6 central canines and 1 first molar) with root fractures near the alveolar osseous crest which were treated by orthodontic forced advancing of the roots. For this purpose an orthodontic device consisting of an arch, provisional pin with a hook, and elastic traction were used. The rate of tooth advancing and time of adjacent periodontium rehabilitation were measured. The treatment was effective in all the cases, this recommending it for wide dental practice.

Self-revascularization Following Horizontal Root Fracture with Lateral Luxation Injury in a Permanent Maxillary Central Incisor.

Repair or regeneration of the pulp, following trauma, is a part of the wound healing process. However, pulp necrosis or root resorption, whether partial or complete, might obstruct this process. Because of the neurovascular bundle at the apical foramen and the periodontal ligament, the pulp in this fragment generally remains normal when the apical fragment is not moved. We describe a mature upper left central incisor with a horizontal root fracture in the mid-third of the root and lateral luxation that healed on its own after undergoing a procedure called self-revascularization. The fracture w

Orthodontic extrusion of Ellis Class VIII fracture of maxillary lateral incisor - The sling shot method.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the efficacy of forced extrusion using the sling shot elastic. A 21 year adult patient reported with an Ellis Class VIII fracture of the maxillary right lateral incisor. Root canal treatment followed by a fiber reinforced composite post was placed and core build up was done. A metal button was bonded to the tooth. Begg brackets were placed from the second premolar on one side to the second premolar on the opposite side. 0.016″ × 0.025″ stainless steel was placed in ribbon mode. The ligature wire was placed as a sling shot from the button on the fractured to

Severe tooth loss after root damage caused by predrilled intermaxillary fixation screw: a case report.

Intermaxillary fixation (IMF) with screws is routinely used as a conservative therapy or to obtain normal occlusion during the surgical procedure of open reduction and internal fixation for treating mandibular fractures. The risk of iatrogenic dental damage caused by interdental drilling is widely known. Several side effects are described, including loss of response to pulp sensibility testing, root fracture, and, loss of the tooth. This is a case report about a young man who had undergone temporary IMF treatment with a single proven root damage. The patient did not appear for follow-up but he

The importance of soft tissue examination in traumatic dental injuries: a case report.

Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) represent one of the main oral health problems in children, with variable prevalence rates. The issue of unmet treatment needs and inadequate emergency management of TDIs have surfaced up lately in dental literature, indicating that some TDIs present late for treatment, which may complicate management of these injuries. Soft tissue injuries usually accompany other dental injuries therefore thorough clinical and radiographic inspection of soft tissue wounds can not be over emphasized, even in late presentation cases. Tooth fragments may be embedded in soft tissu

Apexogenesis treatment with a new endodontic cement: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: This article describes an apexogenesis report of an 8-year old boy referred to our clinic 4 weeks after an impact trauma to the maxillary left central incisor that caused a complicated crown fracture and pulpal exposure. METHODS: In the radiographic examination, the tooth was observed to be immature. After access cavity preparation, cervical pulpotomy was performed, and the remaining pulp was capped with calcium enriched mixture (CEM) cement. The crown was restored by using the fractured incisal segment on the next day. RESULTS: The radiographic and clinical examinations on the

A survey of failure modes in composite resin restorations.

This study was undertaken as a first step in identifying opportunities to decrease the need for replacement of class 3, 4, and 5 composite resin restorations. Data regarding the reasons for original placement or replacement of a restoration, the age of restorations at the time of replacement, and patient/doctor factors that may be associated with a decision to place or replace a restoration were recorded by use of a cross-sectional survey. During a 2-week period 108 dentists recorded reasons for placing or replacing 1360 restorations. Of the 1360 restorations, 42.8% were classified as primary

An experience of displaced third molar roots removed using computer-assisted navigation system.

The frequency of displacement of a third molar root is low and considered a rare incident. A computer-assisted navigation system is a surgical support system that allows the patient to confirm the surgical site in three dimensions during surgery has recently been introduced to oral and maxillofacial surgery. We used a computer-assisted navigation system to remove a displaced third molar root in the floor of the mouth without complications and report the outline of the procedure and the effectiveness of the computer-assisted navigation system safety. This was a 56-year-old male who underwent ex

Cracks in fossil enamels resulting from premortem vs. postmortem events.

Vertebrate enamel preserves a record of fracture-producing strain. Fracturing during the life of the individual is potentially a source of selection for stronger enamel in the course of evolution. To determine if it is possible to recognize such fractures in fossil enamel, cracks in a variety of fossil materials, including enamel-covered holostean scales, crocodilian teeth, theropod and hadrosaurid dinosaur teeth, and mammalian teeth were examined. Cracks that occurred during the life of the individual could be recognized by abrasive wear on edges exposed at the surface of the enamel in areas

Intentional Replantation as a Viable Option for Crown-Root Fracture in Maxillary Central Incisor: A Case Report.

Crown-root fractures are often challenging to treat and have a poor prognosis. The present case explains the successful management of a vertically fractured tooth treated by intentional replantation in a 12-year-old child. The patient underwent a successful 12-month follow-up, which included a mobility test and measurement of the gingival sulcus depth. Additionally, a radiological assessment was performed to evaluate the root resorption, the integrity of the alveolar cortex, and the periodontal space. We suggest that intentional replantation may be an effective therapeutic approach for the tre

Horizontal root fracture accompanied by luxation of coronal fragment in a maxillary central incisor: a case report.

Root fracture injuries affect up to 7% of permanent teeth. This type of injury is rarely seen in teeth with open apices and depending on the fracture site, the prognosis is good. This case report describes a horizontal intra-alveolar root fracture in the middle third of a maxillary central incisor associated with an extrusive luxation of the coronal segment and its treatment in a 6-year-old girl. The patient was observed under a regular follow-up regime. After 2 years, clinical examination showed normal tooth color and position, with a positive response to the pulp test.

Stress Evaluation in Endodontically Treated Virtual Teeth Restored with Composite Fillings and Cast or Fiberglass Posts-A Finite Element Analysis.

Background/Objectives: Among the complications of endodontic treatment, root fractures are the most severe and may require tooth extraction. The objective of this study was to develop virtual models of mandibular molars with different endodontic restorations to assess the stress distribution in tooth structures based on the type of corono-radicular restoration, compared with the model of an intact molar. Methods: Four virtual models of a mandibular molar were created: (1) an intact molar with preserved enamel, dentin, dental pulp and cementum; (2) an endodontically treated molar restored with

A two-probe laser Doppler flowmetry assessment as an exclusive diagnostic device in a long-term follow-up of traumatised teeth: a case report.

The reliability of laser Doppler flowmetry in a two-probe assessment of pulpal blood flow is well known. The purpose of this case report was to determine its use as an exclusive and reliable tool for tooth vitality diagnosis in a long-term follow-up. As a result of a traumatic injury to a 24-year-old Caucasian female, tooth pulp vitality was studied in six maxillary front teeth over 30 weeks using two-probe laser Doppler flowmetry and current sensitivity tests. A similar assessment was repeated after 228 weeks. Confronted with an alveolar bone fracture with a tooth in the fracture line, one in

Managing Adolescent Root Fractures: Socket Shield Managing Adolescent Root Fractures: Socket Shield.

Root fractures in adolescents present unique esthetic and prosthodontic challenges, especially when complicated by oblique or vertical fracture lines that preclude traditional root submergence. A 15-year-old female sustained multiple traumatic dental injuries, including a complex root fracture of the maxillary left central incisor, following a motor vehicle accident. Polytrauma management included pulpal therapy, splinting and interim prosthesis fabrication, but the incisor demonstrated both horizontal and vertical fracture components, contraindicating conventional root submergence therapy. So
