The prevalence of American youth identifying as transgender has doubled in the past five years, emphasizing the crucial role of gender affirmation surgery (GAS) in treating gender dysphoria. However, the current health care infrastructure faces challenges in meeting the escalating demand for GAS interventions. Transgender and gender-diverse patients encounter barriers such as travel and extended waitlists for specialized surgeons. This viewpoint highlights the insufficient exposure to GAS in medical education, spanning from medical students to attending surgeons, and examines the uneven distri

Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth are at increased risk of co-using alcohol and cannabis and experiencing related harms due to gender minority stress (GMS). This study aimed to characterize alcohol and cannabis co-use and related harms among TGD youth. Forty Canadian TGD youth who drink completed a 21-day ecological momentary assessment (EMA) period where they reported their substance use, corresponding harms, and GMS and resilience experienced each day. Participants reported 180 alcohol-only days, 104 cannabis-only days, and 41 co-use days during the EMA period. The number of alcohol

Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people weather stigma and discrimination and experience significant barriers to preventive health care, contributing to disproportionate burdens of chronic diseases. Affirming approaches to preventive care improve trust, and every encounter presents an opportunity to support affirming clinical relationships with TGD patients. This article reviews best practices in preventive health in TGD populations including cancer screening, bone health, vaccinations, sexual health, cardiovascular risk, and behavioral health. Given limited data specific to trans patients

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Although gender affirmation is a social determinant of health for transgender and gender-diverse people, reviews have predominantly focused on the medical domain and on younger populations. We conducted a scoping review by mapping peer-reviewed studies on 4 domains of gender affirmation among transgender and gender-diverse people in middle age and late life.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Using the Joanna Briggs Institute's scoping review methodology and PRISMA-ScR reporting guidelines, we conducted a literature search of the following databases: MEDLINE, Social Work

There are many reasons why transgender and gender diverse (TGD) patients may opt for genital gender affirming surgery. As the TGD population continues to grow, there is ongoing demand for competent providers who can not only perform these surgeries, but also provide long-term care for patients after surgery. As such, this article hopes to provide gynecologists and other healthcare providers with an overview of feminizing genital surgeries and a framework for delivery of comprehensive ongoing care, screening, and support.

INTRODUCTION: Trans* and gender diverse people (TGD) are at risk of experiencing inequities across the cancer continuum. While limited evidence suggests cancer is a concern for TGD people, few systematic reviews or other knowledge syntheses exist that can guide efforts to improve the evidence base and address the inequities TGD people face in cancer care.
METHODS: Our team conducted a mixed methods scoping review exploring how cancer affects TGD people. We extracted data on cancer type and phase of the cancer continuum, gender definition operationalization, results, and TGD engagement. We fol

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Gender-affirming surgery (GAS) has witnessed a worldwide surge in demand due to societal and medical advances. Despite improved access, postoperative urogynecologic complications remain underrecognized and poorly documented. This review aims to classify complication patterns by surgical type, discuss their management, and highlight critical knowledge gaps to improve care for transgender and non-binary (TGNB) individuals.
METHODS: A literature review was conducted using PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science. After screening the articles for relevance, data w

Transmasculine individuals (assigned female at birth, masculine gender identity, TM) may use gender-affirming testosterone therapy, and some report adverse genital symptoms during treatment. In cis women, the vaginal microbiota is central to reproductive and sexual health. Lactobacillus-dominant communities are considered optimal, while diverse, Lactobacillus-depleted microbiota are non-optimal. Prior studies suggest Lactobacillus deficiency in TM vaginal microbiota, but associations with symptoms and immune markers remain unclear. We launched the TransBiota study to characterize the TM vagina

Advancements in surgical techniques over time have enhanced both the safety and efficacy of vaginoplasty, resulting in consistently high levels of patient satisfaction in terms of both functional and aesthetic outcomes. Given the rising volume of these procedures, it is increasingly probable that gynecologists will encounter transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) patients seeking specialized care. As experts in pelvic anatomy and reconstructive procedures, gynecologists are uniquely positioned to contribute meaningfully to the care of individuals seeking genital gender-affirming surgical interve

In transmen (women to men), the testosterone (T) therapy used to support the masculinizing process may cause acne. Conversely, in transwomen (men to women), feminising hormones may reduce acne but cause skin dryness and irritation which may be further exacerbated if mild acne persists, requiring topical treatments. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues suppress endogenous sex hormones, thus avoiding the onset of acne in prepubertal individuals. To identify the specific issues of acne in transgender patients and propose suitable medical care for dermatologists. A group of five experts on acn

With an increasing number of patients seeking gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), the clinical impact of testosterone treatments on headache needs to be determined. Our case report looks at the potential effect of testosterone on migraine among transgender patients. We present two transmasculine patients who used masculinising hormone therapy with testosterone. Both patients described their headache as moderate-to-severe pain with features that fulfilled the criteria for chronic migraine without aura. Following GAHT, one patient improved in both frequency and intensity of headache symptom

Facial feminization is a long process with multiple surgical steps that is known to improve quality of life in transgender patients. Visible scars are a frequent complaint by this community as it adds to the stigmatization in this population. Combined procedures have been shown to be effective, by reducing the number of hospitalizations and the total length of recovery periods. In this context, we propose a novel scarless procedure combining a chondrolaryngoplasty, a glottoplasty, and a genioplasty using solely a transoral approach. First, we perform a glottoplasty according to the technique d
