Behcet's disease is a chronic, multisystem variable vessel vasculitis characterised by recurrent oral and genital ulcers, ocular inflammation and a wide range of systemic manifestations. Pseudo-Behcet's syndrome refers to a condition that mimics these clinical features but arises from distinct etiologies. We present a case of a 33-year-old male with year-long recurrent oral ulcers and intermittent abdominal pain, followed by scrotal ulcers, severe fatigue, weight loss and appetite loss. Chest imaging demonstrated bilateral consolidations with cavitation and right-sided pleural effusion, prompt

A 49-year-old male presented with acute dyspnea and hydropneumothorax. Imaging and biopsy confirmed pleural tuberculosis. Despite atypical features and no risk factors, anti-tuberculosis therapy led to rapid improvement. This case highlights the diagnostic challenge of distinguishing tuberculosis-related hydropneumothorax from necrotizing bacterial pneumonia and empyema in the presence of complex radiological findings.

Tuberculosis pleurisy was induced by inoculation of virulent (H37Rv strain or Erdman strain) or attenuated (H37Ra strain) green-fluorescent protein-expressing Mycobacterium tuberculosis into guinea pigs that had or had not been vaccinated with Bacille-Calmette Guérin (BCG). Pleural fluid and cells were analyzed for phagosome-lysosome (P-L) fusion, on the basis of confocal microscopy, intracellular and extracellular bacterial survival, and production of cytokine mRNA. BCG vaccination increased fluid volume and cellular accumulation, significantly enhanced P-L fusion, and significantly decreased

BACKGROUND: The release of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) by T lymphocytes increases after rechallenge with Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigen, especially, at a localized site of tuberculosis (TB) infection. We aimed to compare the clincial efficacy of two commercial IFN-γ release assays from pleural fluid for the diagnosis in tuberculous pleurisy.
METHODS: We performed T-SPOT.TB and QuantiFERON-TB Gold tests simultaneously on pleural fluid and peripheral blood samples from patients with pleural effusion, in South Korea, an area with intermediate TB burden.
RESULTS: Thirty-six patients were enroll

In this article, we evaluated the usefulness of pleural fluid lactic dehydrogenase and isoenzymes in differential diagnosis of pleurisy. Lactic dehydrogenase activities and isoenzymes in pleural fluid were determined in twenty-five patients with tuberculosis and twenty-five patients with malignancy. The results showed that both lactic dehydrogenase level and isoenzymes in pleural fluid between two groups did not correlate significantly (P greater than 0.05).

Pleural masses may be caused by various conditions, including benign and malignant neoplasms and non-neoplastic tumorlike conditions. Primar … ed lymphoma). Non-neoplastic pleural masses may be observed in several benign conditions, including tuberculosis, pleural plaques caused by asbestos exposure, and pleural loose body. Herein, we present a review of benign and malignant pleural neoplasms and tumorlike conditions with illustrations of their computed tomographic images.

BACKGROUND: Hypercalcemia is common in primary hyperparathyroidism malignancies and even in tuberculosis. Interestingly, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) rarely presents with hypercalcemia.
CASE REPORT: We describe an interesting case of SLE in a patient who was otherwise thought to have either tuberculosis or a malignancy. The patient initially presented with feeling unwell, with generalized lymphadenopathy, bilateral pleural effusion, and bilateral corneal calcium deposits secondary to severe hypercalcemia. The diagnosis of SLE was made based on positivity of antinuclear antibodies (ANA)

Lupus vulgaris is chronic, postprimary, paucibacillary cutaneous tuberculosis found in individuals with moderate immunity and high degree of tuberculin sensitivity. Eighty percent of the lesions are on the head and neck. We present the case of a 38 year old lady who was admitted with complaints of worsening breathlessness and low grade fever of one month duration. Examination showed multiple, nontender skin ulcers on bilateral lumbar areas, two oozing serosanguinous discharge and others scarred in the centre. Respiratory system examination and chest X-ray revealed right sided pleural effusion.

During the past several years, the previously steady decline in the annual incidence of tuberculosis has reversed. Primary tuberculosis, the most common form in children, presents with radiographic findings that are quite different from the characteristic changes of postprimary tuberculosis commonly seen in adults. This article presents the common manifestations of primary pulmonary tuberculosis, endobronchial tuberculosis, and hematogenous tuberculosis that are seen in infants and children. The less common findings of pleural tuberculosis, congenital tuberculosis, and tuberculosis of the spin
