The pediatric population is composed of persons under 16 years of age, and few studies are available on the dermatological diseases of this group. In the present study, data on a total of 6300 pediatric patients admitted between the years 2004-2006 were analyzed. Hospital-based patient registry records were used for data collection. The data were analyzed according to age, sex and time of admittance. Turkey breeder hens showed an increase in mortality beginning at 38 wk of age with no other clinical signs or changes in egg production. Visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis are endemic in the western and southeastern parts of Turkey. We report a sporadic case of visceral leishmaniasis from Kocaeli, which is not an endemic area. The patient, a 10-month-old male infant, had since birth never been outside the city. He was referred to our hospital with a one-month history of fever. AIM: To determine the self-reported prevalence of domestic violence and associated risk factors in the Sivas province of Turkey.
METHOD: Five hundred and eighty-three households were chosen by the method of stratified random sampling. The average age among women was 28.65+/-4.64. A 37 year-old woman patient, from the Turgutlu district of the city of Manisa, was given a diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis. Immunosuppression was not detected with flow cytometric analysis. Fungizone was given to the patient in 50 mg doses on alternative days 20 times. The treatment was successful and no important side effect was recorded. Considering the importance of visceral leishmaniasis in Turkey and the rarity of adult cases, we decided to present this as a case report.

Anti-Toxoplasma antibodies were determined with IFA and ELISA tests in 9410 patients who were different age groups, attended Department of Parasitology between 1991-1995. Alcoholic cardiomyopathy, characterized by cardiac hypertrophy, was induced in young turkey poults with 5% ethanol. Ultrastructural features included accumulation of glycogen, swollen mitochondria, myofibrillar lysis, increased number of lysosomes, dilated sarcoplasmic reticulum and dense myofibers. Similarity of these alterations to those described in human alcoholic cardiomyopathy confirms the usefulness of the turkey poult as an animal model for this disease syndrome.

The prevalence of red cell G6PD deficiency was studied by a fluorescence screening test in 5 different ethnic populations of Cukurova province.
