The diagnosis of nerve entrapment at osteofibrous tunnels relies primarily on clinical and electrodiagnostic findings. Recently, the refinement of high-frequency broadband transducers with a range of 5-15 MHz, sophisticated focusing in the near field, and sensitive color and power Doppler technology have improved the ability to evaluate peripheral nerve entrapment in osteofibrous tunnels with ultrasonography (US). In the upper limb, osteofibrous tunnels amenable to US examination include the carpal tunnel for the median nerve and the cubital and Guyon tunnels for the ulnar nerve. In the lower

Droopy shoulder has been proposed as a cause of thoracic outlet syndrome. Two patients developed manifestations of neurovascular compression upon arm abduction, associated with unilateral droopy shoulder and trapezius muscle weakness caused by iatrogenic spinal accessory neuropathies following cervical lymph node biopsies. The first patient developed a cold, numb hand with complete axillary artery occlusion when his arm was abducted to 90 degrees. The second patient complained of paresthesias in digits 4 and 5 of the right hand, worsened by elevation of the arm, with nerve conduction findings

During a 15-year period, 145 patients presenting with cubital tunnel syndrome were operated upon. They are divided into two groups: (1) Primary tunnel syndrome - 27 cases (18.6%), with a "pure" past history, and (2) secondary - 118 cases (81.4%) with the lesion occurring after a known causative event. Investigation of 100 healthy persons, 50 men and 50 women (200 extremities) show, when elbow flexes, the ulnar nerve moves around the epicondyle in 50% of men, whereas in the remainder nerve subluxation or dislocation anteriorly to the epicondyle occurs. In women, the figures are 72% and 28%, res

BACKGROUND: The most common clinical presentation of thoracic outlet syndrome stems from compression of the lower trunk of the brachial plexus or ulnar nerve. A plethora of anatomical variations have been implicated in the cause of thoracic outlet syndrome. Roos' identification and classification of scalene muscle and fibrous bands have added an additional dimension to understanding its cause and subsequent treatment. Understanding the anatomy and relationship of this band with the lower trunk of the brachial plexus is of paramount importance.
METHODS: As part of the authors' long-term study

The objective diagnosis of thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) remains a challenge. The purpose was to present our experience and discuss the utility of electromyography, electroneurography and somatosensory evoked potentials after ulnar nerve stimulation in patients with surgically verified neurovascular compression at the thoracic outlet. Twenty patients (median age 29.5, 16 women) with operatively verified neurovascular compression by a cervical rib or band were examined. All complained of pain and paraesthesias in the hand. In 12 vasomotor disturbances (pallor or lividity, low skin temperature,

During routine anatomical dissection in the hypothenar region of the left hand of a 64-year-old female cadaver, a number of variant structures were observed. The most prominent finding in our case was a supernumerary muscle hitherto unknown in the anatomical literature. This variant muscle had a muscular body formed by the connection of two deeply situated muscular bellies--medial and lateral. The lateral belly originated from the flexor retinaculum, the medial one--from the hamate bone. The common muscular body inserted to the antero-lateral surface of the base of the fifth proximal phalanx.

BACKGROUND: The vast majority of reports of inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IST) had included predominantly young females with ages ranging between 15 and 46 years. In contrast, the present study presents the findings in four elderly females (aged 61-71 years) with long-standing symptoms of palpitations, more than 15 years, in whom IST was diagnosed in their 6th or 7th decade.
METHODS: Clinical and laboratory examinations including electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and heart rate variability studies were retrospectively reviewed in four of the nine elderly female patients with long-standi

The ulnar tunnel syndrome occurs usually from ganglions, lipoma, cysts, chronic repetitive trauma, bicycling, and the activities that require either prolonged wrist hyper extension or continued pressure on the hypothenar eminence. The ulnar tunnel syndrome after flexor tendon repair is a rare complication. We report on a 24-year-old man with ulnar tunnel syndrome after a flexor tendon repair secondary to girder cut injury. The patient was managed conservatively for his hypertrophic scar for 9 weeks. After 9 weeks, the patient presented with no clawing and complete closure of the hand.

OBJECTIVE: Few studies have performed detailed ultrasound measurements of medial epicondyle-olecranon (MEO) ligament that cause the entrapment of ulnar nerve. This study aims to comprehensively evaluate dynamic ultrasonographic characteristics of MEO ligament and ulnar nerve for clinical diagnosis and accurate treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS).
METHODS: Thirty CuTS patients (CuTS group) and sixteen healthy volunteers (control group) who underwent ultrasound scanning from October 2016 to October 2020 were retrospectively collected, with 30 elbows in each group. Primary outcomes were

CASE: A 17-year-old girl presented with chronic right arm numbness, cramping, burning pain, and weakness. Initial nerve studies showed slowing in the median and ulnar nerves, but an outside magnetic resonance imaging was negative. Repeat magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) revealed right C8 nerve root and lower trunk enlargement, compressed by a fibrous band from a small cervical rib. The lower trunk appeared indented in a "sickle" shape-termed the wedge-sickle sign. Surgery confirmed the MRN findings.
CONCLUSION: MRN can depict the wedge-sickle sign previously seen only on ultrasound, poten

The neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome includes the symptoms caused by the compression of the brachial plexus at some point between the interscalene triangle and the inferior border of the axilla. Five patients diagnosed as having neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome were examined. We determinated clinical and electrophysiological features which lead to thoracic outlet syndrome diagnosis. The clinical features included paresthesia and pain along the inner part of the arm, forearm and hand. Diminished sensation was rare. Muscle weakness was usual and muscle atrophy was associated in severe case

Peripheral entrapment neuropathies occur in high frequency and present clinically with a wide range of variations. They need to be recognized early enough in order to initiate correct therapy and so to obviate serious nerve lesions and possible neurological sequelae. This paper overviews the essentials of the compression neuropathies as they are encountered in both upper and lower extremities. Pathomechanisms , pathogenesis, evaluation considerations as well as differential diagnosis and basic treatment algorithms are emphasized.

INTRODUCTION: Hypothenar hammer syndrome is a rare vascular condition characterised by ulnar artery damage, which can manifest as thrombosis or aneurysm formation. While surgical treatment has been the mainstay of therapy, endovascular treatment may offer a minimally invasive alternative. Reports of successful coil embolisation of ulnar artery aneurysms in hypothenar hammer syndrome are extremely limited in the literature.
REPORT: A woman in her sixties with a history of smoking and atrial fibrillation on anticoagulants presented with a one month history of a painful pulsatile mass in her dom

BACKGROUND: Ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE) is the second most common entrapment neuropathy of the upper limb, involving physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, orthopedics, and plastic surgery. It results from static or dynamic ulnar nerve instability, cubital tunnel syndrome, or space-occupying lesions. Accurate diagnosis requires thorough history, clinical examination, and selection of appropriate diagnostic tests.
SEARCH STRATEGY: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus and Web of Science were searched (January 2000-August 2026) using combinations of "ulnar neuropathy", "cubital tunnel syndro

Extra- and intraneural ganglionic cysts rarely involved peripheral nerves. They are found in the neighbourhood of large joints. The ulnar nerve is affected most often by extraneural cysts at the wrist. Intraneural cysts prefer the peroneal nerve at the tibiofibular joint. Ganglionic cysts as a cause of peripheral nerve damage are often overlooked, mainly because they are not considered as a cause of pain, paresis or sensory changes. Surgical treatment is recommended.

Sixty patients with unilateral distal radius fractures were managed conservatively. Clinical assessment included objective and subjective evaluations of the outcome of treatment. Radiographic evaluation included fracture classification using the AO/ASIF system and measurement of volar tilt, radial inclination and radial height shortening at the end of treatment. Clinical signs of carpal tunnel syndrome were confirmed electrodiagnostically in 12 patients (20%) during the recovery period. Each patient had electrodiagnostic studies of both upper limbs performed to confirm the diagnosis. The mean
