Prevalence of urinary incontinence in nulliparous Indian sportswomen.

INTRODUCTION: A common gynaecological problem among women that leads to a negative impact on quality of life and causes distress is the involuntary loss of urine which is addressed as urinary incontinence (UI). Females involved in playing various types of sports perform high-intensity activities which can serve as risk factors for UI and pelvic organ prolapse. According to the available literature, there is a scarcity of information regarding data on the prevalence of UI in Indian female athletes. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of UI in nulliparous I…

Evaluation and Management of Female Stress Urinary Incontinence.

Female stress urinary incontinence, the loss of urine with transient increases in abdominal pressure, is a common condition that can profoundly impact a patient's quality of life. The diagnosis is most commonly made via clinical history, including the subjective degree of bother, and physical examination evidence of urinary leakage with cough or Valsalva maneuver. A variety of treatment options exist for stress incontinence, ranging from observation, pelvic floor physical therapy, vaginal inserts, or continence pessaries to procedural interventions. Observation and conservative measures (eg, p…

Cell Technologies in the Stress Urinary Incontinence Correction.

The scientific literature of recent years contains a lot of data about using multipotent stromal cells (MSCs) for urinary incontinence correction. Despite this, the ideal treatment method for urinary incontinence has not yet been created. The cell therapy results in patients and experimental animals with incontinence have shown promising results, but the procedures require further optimization, and more research is needed to focus on the clinical phase. The MSC use appears to be a feasible, safe, and effective method of treatment for patients with urinary incontinence. However, the best mode f…

The Anatomical Pathogenesis of Stress Urinary Incontinence in Women.

Stress urinary incontinence is a common disease in middle-aged and elderly women, which seriously affects the physical and mental health of the patients. For this reason, researchers have carried out a large number of studies on stress urinary incontinence. At present, it is believed that the pathogenesis of the disease is mainly due to changes related to age, childbirth, obesity, constipation and other risk factors that induce changes in the urinary control anatomy, including the anatomical factors of the urethra itself, the anatomical factors around the urethra and the anatomical factors of …

Stress urinary incontinence and the forgotten female hormones.

The use of hormones to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI) has fallen out of favor because of concerns over safety following publication of the Women's Health Initiative study. In addition, there are data that suggest that estrogen treatment does not help SUI. As women age, the decline in androgen output mirrors the increasing prevalence of SUI implying a potential causal association. Therefore, we suggest that androgens are the 'forgotten female hormone.' Vaginal estrogens can treat pelvic floor structures without significant systemic effects; we suggest that vaginal androgens can act sim…

[Drugs and urinary incontinence : Should we consider it ?].

Urinary incontinence is a common urological condition. It is classified into several subtypes, among which most frequently encountered are stress, urgency and mixed incontinence. Urinary continence depends on many physiological factors, some of which can potentially be influenced by numerous medications. The most commonly implicated drugs in urinary incontinency are antipsychotics, antidepressants, benzodiazepines, alpha blockers, diuretics, and hormone replacement therapy for menopause. Although the prescription of these types of drugs continues to increase, their effect on continence has rec…

Proprioception in stress urinary incontinence: A narrative review.

Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is more common than any other chronic disease. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI), among the various forms of urinary incontinence, is the most prevalent (50%) type of this condition. Female urinary continence is maintained through an integrated function of pelvic floor muscles (PFMs), fascial structures, nerves, supporting ligaments, and the vagina. In women with SUI, the postural activity of the PFMs is delayed and the balance ability is decreased. Many women, by learning the correct timing of a pelvic floor contraction during a cough, are able to elimina…
