Understanding the shift in COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and its associated factors for primary and booster doses among university students: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine hesitancy (VH) poses a major challenge to achieving high COVID-19 vaccination rates. Universities, with mandatory primary dose policies but optional boosters, offer a unique setting to study VH dynamics. This study aimed to estimate COVID-19 VH prevalence and identify key factors influencing VH across primary and booster doses among university students. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, all actively enrolled students at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, during Winter 2024 were invited to complete an online survey. Means and standard deviations were calcula

Continuity of an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic: A systematic review and meta-analysis of vaccine perceptions and hesitancy in the emergency medical services profession.

During and subsequent to a natural disaster, there is an expectation that certain elements of society will continue to operate with a degree of normalcy. For example, it is expected that emergency medical services will continue to function and remain reliable for the community served. Expectations such as these are based on the presumed reliability of government and the assumption that those responsible for the relevant infrastructure will have made plans to ensure it remains functional and taken steps to mitigate known weaknesses. The COVID-19 pandemic provides a case in point. Specifically,

Understanding COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Black pregnant individuals: a mixed methods study of social media messenger and content type preferences.

INTRODUCTION: Pregnant individuals are at increased risk of developing severe illness from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). They also tend to be vaccine-hesitant, which is even more pronounced in certain racial and ethnic minority groups. The study objective was to determine whether social media advertisements promoting COVID-19 vaccination could influence vaccination likelihood among pregnant and recently pregnant participants who self-identified as Black or African American. METHODS: Participants were interviewed individually or in focus groups to explore their attitudes toward vaccinat

Community-engaged curriculum development using racial justice and biomedical lenses to address COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in black individuals with rheumatologic conditions.

Despite the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine in reducing mortality and illness severity, racial inequities in vaccination uptake persist. Among individuals with rheumatologic conditions who are often immunocompromised, the impact of disparities in preventive care threatens to widen existing inequities in adverse outcomes related to COVID-19 infection. There exists an urgent need to develop interventions that reduce COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and promote vaccine uptake. We leveraged long-standing community-academic partnerships in two cities to develop a curriculum that will be part of an inter

Awareness and Hesitancy of COVID-19 and other Vaccines among People Living with HIV/AIDS Attending Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Center in North India.

INTRODUCTION: Approximately 40 years have passed since we first learned about the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), but several people living with HIV (PLHIV) in developing countries such as India cannot avail treatments. This makes preventive measures, such as vaccinations, critical in these persons to avoid vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs). However, little is known about the willingness and perceptions of PLHIV regarding these vaccines. Therefore, we explored vaccine awareness and hesitancy, especially during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. OBJECTIVES: The primary objective was to determ

From institutional trust to digital literacy: Socioeconomic and political determinants of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Czech adults based on a national panel survey.

Vaccine hesitancy remains a significant public health challenge, particularly during pandemics when high immunization rates are crucial. While individual psychological antecedents of vaccine hesitancy have been extensively studied, limited empirical evidence exists on how contextual determinants, such as socioeconomic status, political trust, and digital literacy, collectively shape vaccine-related behaviors, particularly in Central European populations. This study explores the key determinants of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Czech adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted using data f
